I'd recommend against "learning" even in a parking lot. Look around for local car control clinics or basic drifting events. There will be other like minded individuals there who have made all the mistakes for you already and can teach you the right way to learn how to control your car. Most people start with controlled donuts. You'll learn exponentially faster with someone who knows what they're doing in the passenger seat.
Imagine if you put all the money you're about to throw into repairing your car toward learning how to drift with experienced hooners instead. You'd be a pro. |

Practicing poor technique in the parking lot likely isn't doing you a whole lot of good. There's no substitute for a good instructor and a proper track :driving: |
Car is still at the mechanic, have yet to hear from him.
I'm going to be honest I've had the car for 3 months and I've treated it with alot of respect. Just one time I remember it was raining and I was making a turn and my back end slightly slided, and I curiously was trying to do the same last night, thinking if I turn off the traction control I'll have more of the glide... It all happened so quick in litteraly one second the car just went flying... Having the shittiest day just hoping everything is cosmetic and nothing seriously got damaged... Very disappointed in myself... worked really hard to get this car. Luckily I'm not in school at the moment working 60 hours a week so if the repair is 2-4k I can pay it off in less than a month. Thanks for all of the advice guys |
PM sent.

Part of life is learning from good (positives) and bad (negatives) situations. Nice to see you are owning to your mistake and keeping a positive attitude. Hope things work out for you. |

everyone has their own preferences in regards to the VDC. the thing is to always stay humble on your skills. get the car fixed up and if you're going to drive it in winter get some snow tires + sand bags in the hatch. |
Hello again everyone,
Just heard back from the mechanic. So far he said he`s figured out all of the problems but he`s still going to have another mechanic look at it: Both rims are scratched and bent - he has sent them for repair to see if they are still repairable. He said each rim costs $1100 brand new. The fender and the frame thing under the door that goes all the way to the back will be another $1200 to repair without the paint. (http://s10.postimg.org/mdvskrz2d/20151027_021040.jpg) There is also a rod bent on the back wheel which needs to be put replaced - $400. Suspension so far seems to be ok unless the other mechanic says theres a problem. Everything is what I thought it would be, but can someone please shed some light on the rims. I like the rims specially the ones in the back as they are `staggered` and really go in with the depth, but 1100 for one rim seems too much. I found some cool rims here for half the price for one: Wheels Tires Rims - Custom Car Truck Chrome Discount Cheap Any information on rims please... I was going to get a new set of rims anyways and use the old ones for winter. Please advise, as I don`t want to spend $2400 just for 2 rims. Thanks!! Pretty happy nothing serious has come out yet and everything seems cosmetic. |
Contact Jomer at FBNissan for best price on new rims. Alternatively, look for a set on the forum. The sport rims typically sell around 7-800 for a used set in reasonably good condition. You can sell your other two or keep them around as spares :twocents:

I would not consider paying that much for the stock rims, although I agree they look good on the car.Try these guys...................
Nissan 370z Wheels Rims Wheel Rim Stock OEM Replacement |
Hi vooshhz.
Check for wheels on craigslist and kijiji in the GTA. I believe there are a few sets for sale. Also. I understand that the parts team at Brantford Nissan give certain discounts to Z owners, like 10%-20% off. Give them a call. |
Hey,
I looked around, this looks good: 370Z Winter Tires and Mag Rims Gives me winter tires AND rims for the price of 1 rim. This will give me time to save some money for some new rims and tires for the summer. Any suggestions about the above link? |
Go out there and check them carefuly yourself. Make sure the sidewalls are not punctured. The wheels are not OE but aftermarket cast aluminum 18". Not a big deal for winter package.
|
Often times when a vehicle slides into a curb, the wheel bearings are damaged. This does not appear immediately so once repaired if you hear some noise (or leaking from the rear axle) it very well could be the wheel bearing(s) that was damaged.

You are looking at a lot more than a few grand. This car doesnt just let you fix it. Everything that is damaged needs replaced and its all part of the unibody. A truck hit my z on friday. It was parked and just the quarter panel. $3200. No wheel damage either. Its hard to tell but the gas door is crushed and her azz is flat lol. Along with that white is a bitch to paint match. http://i67.tinypic.com/1zvwmbr.jpg

This is why I have a 2500$ 240sx for....
|
Just come up with the list of parts required and try to buy them used. You can pick up a set of Nismo wheels (used) with tires for less than $2k.

Ouch... hurting your Z sucks, but as mentioned, at least it was only your Z. Hopefully you can get it back up and running without running into unforseen problems later on.

A rear quarter panel is much more costly than a door or front fender,it has to be cut out and blended in.
|
Any updates on the damage?
|
If you dare pay 1100 for those shitty base wheels you are a sucker... for 2200 you can get a set of aftermarket wheels with better offsets. LOL @ the price.

if you plan on driving in the winter i strongly reccomend you to get a set of 18'' rims, some new decent snow tires and a few bags of sand in the trunk.
oh and drive about 10x more conservatively than you were previously. then once summer comes around take some driving lessons with a pro so you can learn to drift properly and in a safe environemnt... Quote:
