Its true though ! This car is a magnet for cops!! especially here in South Africa! If i am in the 370z i get pulled over if there are cops on the side of the road! Always they see a fancy car and stop it! i Got pulled over three time in the space of 6 hours!
Once for "speeding" even though cars were zooming passed me but not even a chance to say hello i had a ticket!! (He was a rude *** u know what). Other two time just to check license e.t.c.

Arrrgggg Damn Piggies!

Some even said "Good Evening/night " to me as they let me go. I also follow some steps when I get pulled over (i.e. turn the car off, put the keys on the dashboard so that cop can see it, put hands on the steering wheel, be VERY polite, don't make any sudden movement or talk to passenger etc). Also I was told, if you tell the cops you're a member of "The370Z" forum, they let you go with a warning....

Okay just kidding on the last sentence :icon17:

LOL - if only the cop knew what a joke putting the keys on the dash was.... its the same as being in the ignition with our car ;P

Geez I want to live where you guys live. Around here, if a trooper pulls you over, you are getting a ticket. I don't care what steps you follow or whether or not your hands are out the window or down your pants. Those guys would ticket their own mother around here, hell they'd throw the book at her to make an example. :shakes head:

AK seems to have it down like a pro :icon18:

other thing- if the popo asks you if you knew why you were stopped..... if you know, tell him! ( ie, your on a cell phone, make eye contact with the cop next to you, then tell him you dont know why you were stoppeD? lol)

also, i advise against getting ANYTHING out before asked. ID, reg, insurance ect. cops dont like to walk up to a car when someone is in the glove box.

Well my driving record was absolutely clean(not even a parking ticket or warnings) before I got my first ticket(speeding) in my Z a month before I was getting out of the military. I was clocked at going 82MPH in a 65MPH while trying to pass a semi-truck at 5:30AM in the morning while heading to base for work in my uniform. In addition, I did everything by the book when the officer approached me such having my windows down, both hands on the steering wheel, addressing the officer as Sir, etc and the officer was constantly rude and being a smartass with me. I managed to keep my calm and drove off with a full blown ticket, no deduction or anything.

Granted I haven't dealt with many police officers in my life but that specific Oklahoma Highway Patrol officer sure ruined how I think of cops. :/

Robot Boy:

Laser detectors will detect police laser (AKA: Lidar), but when the detector goes off, it's usually to late. Unlike radar, Laser takes anywhere from a second to a few to lock on to a specific car. The newer guns are very quick to gain a lock, therefore giving you only a split second to slow down, which usually isn't enough. The older guns take a little longer. Depending on the conditions maybe 2-3 seconds at best. That's still very little time to react and slow your roll to a legal speed.

There is one plus to laser and that is it does bounce, not 1 mile but usually up to 5 car lengths or so.

Spartan 1771 04-03-2010 07:32 PM

This is true, but overall detection is much harder then conventional K / KA band radar.

Laser is more of a tool used on crowded highways where deciphering a radar signal becomes almost impossible for the Officer. Unlike radar, Laser requires a direct line of sight with no obstructions (such as trees, road signs, poles, etc.), therefore not allowing the Officer to hide. The one advantage Laser gives the Officer is distance. When driving on crowded highways it’s always best to keep a sharp eye out for the Police Officer off in the distance.

That means you have to go get your keys from your pockets? He'll like that... :)

This happened about 3 months ago:
Cop comes up to me

Cop:Are you're windows tinted?
Me: Maybe , with a big smile on my face (Which they are, 20% way illegal in NJ)
Cop: Laughs and says 'Looks good man, have a good night'
I was like WIN!
