Been waiting 2 weeks!

To introduce myself to you guys, tell you about the hard process it was to find the exact 370z that I wanted. And to say goodbye to the only type of vehicle I have owned since I was 19....im 32 now. Lemme see If I can summarize, and just give the important details.

Through nearly my entire time driving I have owned/driven 4 mustangs. My latest one a 2014 Deep Impact Blue Gt, had severe paint defects. The front bumper, roof and hood were starting to peel right off. My dealership fought and refused to help me with it. After this soured my good relationship with ford and my dealer I started to look around.

I began to really like the 370z, after reading on here for 2 weeks ( the time it took for my account to be activated ) I absorbed all the info I could, heck I feel like I know some of you in person just by your avatars!

So I started the process of trying to find a 2016 sport, gun metallic gray with a 6 spd. First dealer tried to low ball me with my car and overcharge on the Z, also tried to tell me they could only find a silver one. So I got in touch with an old friend who directed me to a new dealer ( If anyone lives in south jersey lemme know I'll give you their name, they are awesome) and everything went smooth. They gave me a great deal and found the exact car I wanted.

And then I got up to an email today stating my account was verified on here and here I am :happydance:

Congrats and welcome fellow NJer!

Duc_Z09 10-20-2015 09:00 AM

Sorry to hear about your issues with Ford. Be prepared, Nissan paint sucks too. It may not peel, but it will chip if you look at it sideways.

I also saw some really nasty orange peel on a brand new GT-R (in showroom) a few months ago. IMO that's unacceptable on a $110k car.

Second this. I didn't at first and ended up with a small rock chip on the hood. Very small and was easy enough to fix with touch up paint and a wax, but it still annoyed me.

Let us know what you think. Also how do you feel about the cabin noise with the new sound?

dmatt 10-20-2015 12:11 PM

Greetings.

Cabin noise definitely is noticeable, which im guessing is mostly from the tires. But every mustang I had, I added exhaust to, so a little ambiance doesn't bother me too much.

As for comparing and contrasting the two a few things Ive noticed so far..

- 370z handles worlds better duh
- Mustang 5.0 obviously has the power battle won.
- 370z shifts way better, one of the worse things about the mustang, always using those cheap Chinese Tremec transmissions
- I think I prefer the mustang stereo, have to fiddle more
- Mustang rides a little softer, nothing major, expected this
- 370z paint so far "looks" better, time will tell
- I like not having a turn key anymore, push button ftw
- Brakes I cannot yet say, haven't driven the Z hard yet.
- Mpg time will tell also
- Styling this is subjective, but the Z looks like a stealth fighter to me.
- Interior quality, I like the ergonomics of the Z, but the mustang definitely had a nice interior.
- I have a spare tire again, no more stupid pump
- 370z clutch is a beach, heavier than the mustang.
- Almost forgot the most important thing, the Z seatbelt doesnt ding when Its not buckled, ahem not that I would ever drive without it on. :)

more to come in the weeks coming.

dmatt 10-20-2015 01:35 PM

Non - dinging seatbelt, most Nissan's that way. Awesome.

Actually that reminds me, Im looking into catbacks, I know from reading alot of members like the fast intentions. Does anyone know of an exhaust setup that isnt overly loud, yet has a nice exotic sound to it, not just noise.

Second question what is up with tuning in these cars, Im use to a tune giving 20+hp and even better torque. Do these cars really only pick up about 6hp?

remember Im a noob at this, Ive got my dunce cap on

The 18" Resonated FI Exhaust I think is what you are describing not overly loud but has a nice aftermarket sound to it. Besides the exhaust which provides a better sound and some performance the best bang for the buck are high flow cats and rear gears! Add a tune to all of that and call it a day unless you want to go over to the "dark side" force fed :yum:

What is the gain with this set up?

blueranger 10-20-2015 10:26 PM

Based on what I have read the stock Z would dyno at 278+/- and breather mods and tune would range from 305 to 319 depending on the dyno. I can tell you that the HFC and Gears were good on the butt dyno.

With bolt ons and a tune, you will pick up 30+whp. The tune itself won't really net much but it will make for a much better driving car with faster throttle response.

kidicenj 10-21-2015 07:29 AM

With Fast Intentions CBE, HFC, and a Stillen Intake and a tune I went from 278hp stock to 321hp.

Those are nice numbers. Where did you get it dyno'd/tuned?

Edit* I see you have Uprev in your signature.

Nice. I've heard nothing but good things about them and plan to give them a call when I'm ready to get a tune.

It's not a Mustang, so you're not going to see big gains from just a tune. Spending $3k on test pipes, cat-backs, plenum, and intake is going to net you maybe like 40hp where on a 5.0 cheap/easy bolt-ons get you a lot more power for the $$. That's just the nature of the beast.

That isn't to say it isn't worth doing, just don't expect to win any drag races; this car shines in its cornering and overall driving experience rather than straight-up power. I like it better than my old Mustang overall but I definitely miss all the cheap mods at AmericanMuscle.com, CJ Pony Parts, etc etc etc...

Mustangs have possibly the best aftermarket support on the planet. The Z is OK, better than most even, but it'll cost you.:eekdance:

Twin turbo is the way to go. You can get 600+ rwhp that way pretty safely, which makes an already good driver's car pretty much insane. Unfortunately to do it right will cost you $15k+ and you're still going to get smoked by properly built 5.0s in the 1/4... if you care about that sort of thing.

Z-Girl 12 10-21-2015 08:33 PM

Congrats and welcome to the family!

ZVox 11-19-2015 08:28 AM

So small update, continuing on the compare and contrast of my last car. Now having owned the Z for roughly a month, and putting a few miles on it. I think it is very safe to say, its an absolute blast to drive, I say how it feels like a go kart on roids all the time.

Never driven a car that is just straight up pure fun to drive, and I would credit alot of that to the handling and the transmission. This thing shifts better then any mustang I ever had. I always said those Chinese Tremecs were the worst part of the stang and its true.

The clutch has lightened up or Im getting use to it, as Ive found that sweet spot and silky smooth shifts have followed. So its definately been a great first month, here is to hoping this isnt a bad winter :)
