I owned a Juke for a few months before I traded it in for the 370Z. The styling was subjective, but it was undeniably practical and fun to drive. If Nissan is successful in improving the Juke with this new crossover, I'm on board.

I think the Z is dead until the market recovers. Kind of like the several year gap between the Z32 and Z33.
|
It is sooo dead now:
Road & Track article: The Nissan Gripz Concept will be the CUV That Killed the Z-Car video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdjbrYjPb5U :shakes head:  They didn't have to kill the Z this way, it's insulting! They could simply halt production and that's it. |
Well its been a fun ride, Im out!!! *Throws a $20 bill on table and zips up pants*

Yeah this will not wear a Z Badge, I think that Nissan is now playing around with their peeps. The next Z will be quad turbo 2 cyl engine with an electric engine making total HP of 400hp. IT will only come equipped with a dual clutch tran. LOL That would be crazy but seeing as Nissan has been on a roll lately something close to this would not surprise me. gripZ LOL |

not to get too off topic but I bought a 2015 Juke NISMO RS AWD /CVT in March and its pretty much the only thing I drive day in and day out. ive done everything with it taken it to the track the drag strip and autoX too. the CVT isnt bad the only time I had it not do what I needed it to do is on a tight autoX track even in manual mode when I would brake hard or slow down and then get back on the power it would be in 3rd screwing up my run when I needed it to be in 1st. on a actual road course I just left it in "D" and it did fine. its a cool car ive got all the NISMO add ons for it like the NISMO CAI NISMO -35mm springs ect |
Just to further confirm this is not a replacement for the 370Z here's this: https://www.yahoo.com/autos/news/nis...140000666.html

I just read the article. Thank god it's not a Z replacement. I can see the crossover platform being added to the Z family of coupes and roadsters though. Could the Gripz indicate what the Z35 might look like?

Looks like that will be the second generation Juke, quite an improvement if the design holds.

|
Yeah it's much better-looking than the current Juke.

Introducing the Nissan Gripz Concept, a Radical Sports Crossover They don't say anything about being a replacement or not of the Z. Just keep playing with our minds :icon08: |

“While the Nissan Gripz Concept is not seen as a direct replacement for either of those two iconic vehicles, it does show the extremes to which the compact crossover can be pushed.” |
either way... it gives a glimpse in to the mindset of Nissan designers. i am not sure i am ready to see a front grill that "interesting" on the front of a Z. I know it´s in line with the current Nissan look, but I think the Z is it´s own icon and doesn´t need to look like the rest of the line. Please, keep it classy Nissan!
|
Initial impression is that I like the rear and side profiles, the front seems a little off to me. I'd be more interested to see how much this overall look would change if/when it moved to full production. I'd probably get dumbed down until it just turned into another Rogue.

Honestly, I doubt we will see anything in terms of a "new" Z or Z35 anytime soon. The GT-R (and Skyline or whatever they are calling it these days) will be before the Z as history has shown time and time again. Expect them to be released pretty close together though (as in within the same years time). I wouldn't be surprized if they give the GT-R an evolved VK turbo and give the Z a reworked VG/VQ/VR. I seriously doubt that they will source products from the Europeans to put in there JDM ICON. I would love the return of the inline motors, but I doubt we will see that either without the help of the Germans..........
just my 2 cents |
“Nissan pioneered the idea of the compact crossover, and this is reflected in the enormous popularity of Qashqai and Juke and the resulting growth of the market segment as other manufacturers play catch-up,” said Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer.

The 2 vehicles refeered to are the Qashqai and Juke… They don't say anything about the fairlady Z, so still leaves the doubt if there will be a z35 |
The 370Z is simply not that profitable. It wouldn't be too surprising if the Z34 went the way of the Z32 and laid low for a few years. Nissan's Z car simply can't compete with America's heavy, V-8-powered coupes on paper. Unfortunately, that's what it really boils down to, as far as the masses go. The 370Z competes with what exactly? The Z4? Boxster? TT? Cayman? Perhaps it's too small of a market for Nissan to allocate resources on.

Wasn't the Toyota Matrix the original crossover? Or was it just another hideous passenger car?
|
I really like the 370z but Most car enthusiasts I've heard througout the years were not impressed with the linear coarse 3.7 engine and the manual gearbox was rough. It was cool right after the 350z for a few years but in reality it was a niche car and when the frs came out it pretty much butchered 370z sales where it was already hurting compared to cheaper cars with similar performance.
Nissan realized that the car needs a serious rehaul to get a more fuel efficient engine and a better market fit. Unfortunately they seem hesitant to make another z for some reason we don't really know the behind the scenes mentality. They also need better quality control . This past couple years they were close to last in consumer satisfaction and the leader in recalls. |
