Beware the Bear in The Air!

Well, the Colorado Highway Patrol, with their Air Patrol, got me on I-70 East of Denver last Tuesday. 87 in a 75 mph zone. My own fault. Interstates are always the focus of patrols, and I WAS going faster than the "tolerances ", usually 6 or 7 mph over the speed limit. So , I'll pay the fine and move on. PS: the Patrolman was very nice and professional. He said the airplane had been tracking me for a while??? Does that mean they honed in on the "Z" ?

Zbrah 09-04-2015 06:15 PM

Must be a stang owner. Pay it and move on

Fuzzzy 09-04-2015 06:48 PM

Doesn't seem like an efficient use of taxpayer resources unless the fine is HUGE.

TexasChuck 09-04-2015 06:55 PM

Fine.

I don't understand Zbrah's response , so....
No, not huge, $169.50. I agree with the expenditures ???
Cheers

Duc_Z09 09-04-2015 07:55 PM

I got a warning last Saturday for 77 in a 55... the cop said "nice car" and didn't fine me.

TexasChuck 09-04-2015 08:08 PM

Warning

Wow! That's 22 over. Good for you!

My earlier point was that any fine you received probably wouldn't leave the state with much profit if the plane was following you for "a while." What is a while? 5 min? 10 min? longer? (Rhetorical question)

Figuring the pilot's time, the time of the officer on the ground, the costs of running the plane and the patrol car, plus all administrative costs, and $169.50 doesn't seem to leave much for the state coffers. But at least they can claim some justification for keeping the plane in the air

Close to $1000 when they towed my car and called the MP's to bring me back to base:icon14:

Wait a minute! Aren't you supposed to be whining about how unfair the ticket is and pleading for help on beating it? :stirthepot:

:iagree:

This is indeed an unusual appearance here.

Buddy of mine got his 350 and on the way home he got pulled over doing like 130 in a 70. Cop said nice car and told him to slow it down. He slows it down and gets a ticket for doing 85 in a 70. Go figure.

I got stopped by state patrol randomly, they said I was speeding and they tagged me from their aircraft. I was legitimately not speeding though (there were many cars of the same color all around me that were). I fought it. Ended up paying a smaller fine. Literally highway robbery, I don't trust those things.

good man. probably targeted you because it's a sports car/coupe. i imagine they would have targeted any sports car that is moving faster than traffic. i can only assume they ran multiple lazor pewpew's on your car to make sure it wasn't a 'blip' type of thing.

yea it's weird... i know we have air-craft patrols along highway 401 in some sections and they probably won't flag you until you hit 130km/h (it's a $300 fine)

generally they won't harass you if you're doing 120ish aslong as you're not undertaking or being a total weener on the road.

130kmh... but that's 80mph... what's the speed limit 50mph? that's a little extreme

60mph (100kmh) is the limit on that road. some roads do have 110 but not in ontario.

going 120 or 75mph or less is usually acceptable assuming the conditions are not terrible. i have driven by cops at that speed alone, in groups, passing no the left and had no issues.

had i been going 130 alone i would be an unhappy camper and making a thread about how life isn't fair to me. :shakes head:
