Starting in 2006-2007 Citgo decided to abandon almost 2,000 stations in several midwestern states. Many of those stations were snatched up by Valero Energy Corp. Citgo, a wholly owned subsidiary of PVDSA (nationalized Venezuela oil company) and headquartered in Houston, TX Hugo was no longer was getting money from sales of Citgo branded gasoline at those stations. Don't worry though Citgo still owns about 14,000 stations across the U.S. Valero on the other hand is a U.S. stockholder owned manufacturer based out of San Antonio, TX and is actually the largest refiner of gasoline in the U.S. with 18 refineries refining about 60pct. of the gasoline in the U.S. today. Valero Energy Corp. sells unbranded gasoline to independent dealers and other refiners and now has about 5800 retail filling stations in the U.S. So Citgo is not Valero although some Citgo stations were abandoned by Citgo only to be replaced by Valero.

Matt,

AAFES Gas is basically a main brand gas without the label. When I was at McGuire, the truck that came to fuel up was Shell. At Hill AFB few years back, I think they were using Chevron. So, its the same thing without the label. I always gas up on base, majority of the time its cheaper.
