I did a lot of stupid **** in a 100hp Civic. If I had a 300+ rwd sports car, I'd have died before I graduated from high school.

hahaha this!

OP what was your first car? Over all the Z is a very well balanced car, unless your bieng completely stupid and reckless, youll be ok

Your parents should just get you a Casket to go with it!:eekdance: Ok maybe a little strong...I wonder if they think they are being good parents, or irresponsible ones. For all I know your father is Mario Andretti and im completely wrong, its happened before but... RWD, HP, inexperience all recipes for disaster. That being said please drive with the maturity this car demands, or I assure you Darwin will claim what is rightfully his. Good luck and dont let your raging testosterone get in the way of enjoying the car.

OK...the car is in the driveway, who's buying the gas (PREMIUM) with a huge tank for it's size car...19 gal to be exact. Who's paying for the service and maint ? and last but not least the insurance for a teen for a car of this caliber is ungodly.

Your folks must have a fortune to drop 40k+ for a present...but is it a smart present ??...I say no ! Tell them to buy a 2015 Civic SI 203HP (plenty for you), half the money...half the HP and more affordable to drive...and insurance would be a whole lot cheaper.

Being a teen in a machine like this...Im afraid you will be a statistic of some sort.. you will at a time or another have blue lights behind you..if I were a trooper I'd pull your *** over if your doing 56 in a 55...just because.

You have gotten some harsh replies and you may think some are being smart asses...but these are harsh realities. If i were your parents a Z would NOT be on the shopping list..

Proceed with caution my man !

:iagree:

Every bit of this.

OP, learn how to drive. Actual driver's instruction, not BS driver's ed you had to take to get your license. This car can kill you if you act stupid. Be an adult and you'll be ok.

Z as a first car.... I wouldn't do it I were your parent

mishuko 07-17-2015 11:29 AM

in my honest opinion... if you REALLY want a sports car get the FRS. atleast it has a back seat so you can daga the ladies real good (for all 8 seconds huehue)

also more reasonable horse power

seriously, you're a teenager, you're going to be banging in your car and you're going to wish you had a back seat. the trunk doesn't work (speaking from experience)

maintanence isn't as bad as people make it out to be. petro, oil, rubber.

Recipe for disaster, GL bud

I'ts been said before, but if we don't change your mind for the love of god drive the car safely

I had 5.7 liter camaro for a first car. By 18 I had sportbike. By all counts I should be dead... :stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot:

You're the outlier. :rofl2:

I wouldn't recommend a Z as your first car either. It has just way too much horsepower and torque to be messed around with like most first cars are driven. I had an 02 Altima as my first car. Guess what, drove it into the ground. Blew a head gasket and ended up selling the thing for a down payment on a barebones ford ranger (job wasn't what it is today). As time went on and I had that truck for about a year and a half, I had a new job at this point making twice as much as I did at my previous job, which put me in a better situation to make a move towards a new car. Of course this is also excess over all the necessary bills; rent, utilities, insurance, gas, food, misc. items.

I know only being 20, I am in that category of being a teenager and having this car, but the fact of the matter is, I'm self-supporting and pay for the car myself. When you actually pay for a car yourself and invest big amounts of money into it, it makes you drive it completely different than if it were a gift from your parents; and its because if you end up doing something to screw it up, you not only have to pay to fix it but also have to still keep paying your monthly payment.

I do think this car should be one you earn just because at that point you've done your research and gone through the driving experience to realize the amount of respect you have to have driving a machine like this on the road.
I'd suggest going with the 2016 Honda Civic Si that will be coming out soon if not already out. Its got about 210 hp and is plenty fast and plenty luxurious for a first car.

The Z is definitely a force to be reckon.

OP, are you related to Tim Richmond?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Richmond

Excerpt from link:

When Richmond reached age 16, his parents purchased him a Pontiac Trans Am, a speedboat and a Piper Cherokee airplane for his birthday. Yet his mother Evelyn often worried about spoiling her only son. She once said, "Tim was lazy...", and "... I did everything for him. I ruined him, I admit it. He was my whole life."[10]

I'm 21 and everyone assumes my parents bought it for me. It's really annoying. I worked hard to get this car. Also, why does everyone assume if someone has a fast car for their first car, they're going to crash it? My first car was a T5 volvo modified to 320WHP and I never got into a crash or got a ticket. Just a lot of fun at the drag strip.
