New 2010 370 coupe
Waiting to buy when the 2010 comes out anyone hear about if the oil temp issue will be corrected????
|
It's a non-issue for non-tracked cars. 220 is still well within oil temp limits. If you start seeing 250+ then worry, but it won't happen during normal driving.
To sum it up: no factory oil cooler on the 2010 model. |
I heard the nismo will have one

2010s will have heated mirrors, no oil coolers :P
As Dreamer stated, even the '09 Nismo pre-prod car had a cooler. No such luck from the line. 99% sure this will be the case come Dec/Jan. |

I saw two nismo in the weston/florida nissan both have an oil cooler. they are well into production.

The OP did not say he was purchasing a Nismo.
Here's a different way of putting it: There is no oil temperature "issue". If you plan on tracking the car, then you need to equip it properly (which may include purchasing an oil cooler) for track use. |

unless my eyes have recently failed me, and it is possible... i remember getting down to look. and if you look at the car from the front, on the left corner in front of the radiator there was another cooling element... roughly 8 inches long by 4 inches high, and 1 inch deep. it was an 09, this happened like 1 month ago I asked the sales guys, since when is this oil cooler offered, their reply: "comes on all nismo versions" so the obvious return question: "can I get one for my car, or better yet will it be standard" he said he does not know about it being standard, but i can buy the nismo one, and he gave me a part number on it. So it could have been something else, up front, or they added it. |
There is an official Nismo oil cooler, and a dealer can add them or any item for that matter at their will, but he lied to you. The oil cooler is not on all Nismo (2009) models, and still unknown about 2010, all we can do is wait and see.

Aggressive driving of the 370Z on a race track at sustained high engine speeds can cause increases in oil temperature and may activate this engine protection system. To avoid activation of this engine protection system and these reduced peak engine speeds, Nissan recommends an oil cooler be fitted to the 370Z before driving it on a race track. A Nissan Motorsports accessory oil cooler kit is available for customer purchase through authorized Nissan dealerships for race track use. The part number is 21300-SS370. An oil cooler is not necessary for normal operation of the vehicle on public roads. The addition of an oil cooler would have raised the price of the car and potentially moved it out of the reach of some customers. Value has been a core principle of the Z car since the original 240Z and we choose to uphold this core principle by not adding additional costs that are unnecessary for normal use. For those individuals who choose to drive their vehicle on a race track, the oil cooler is available as an aftersales item. The oil cooler is a Nissan Motorsports item and as such is sold without warranty, express or implied, unless expressly prohibited by law in which case the warranty provided is the minimum required by law. The installation of the Nissan Motorsports oil cooler does not, by itself, “void” the vehicle warranty. However any damage caused by the installation or use of this part is expressly excluded under the terms of the Nissan New Vehicle Limited warranty. |
maybe that dealership just adds them on when they recieve them ... like my dealership always has a car with some nice volk wheels available if anyone would like them in their purchase price with the car...
unlikely but possible that they add the cooler as an option... |
As someone else already stated, it's a power steering cooler if you're talking about the right (passenger) side of the car.

Come on Nissan that wouldnt make a dent in the price range. |
Sure it would, the part would cost them $200 to make, and another $50,000,000 to teach someone on the line to install it but lets not forget mark up (I mean you need to make money on it right?) so a total for an installed factory intercooler would be somewhere around $100 million *does his best Dr. Evil impression*

In regards to the oil cooler issue - There are pics of the pre-production 2010 NISMO with an oil cooler on the driver side, taking up half the front aperture of the bumper. My only thing is - the 2009 NISMO had an oil cooler on the pre-pro, and then didn't come with it, but they HID the oil cooler in the fender well behind the bumper where you can't see it. The 2010 NISMO pre-production isn't hiding the oil cooler, it's right up front in plain sight - which points me in the direction of implied inclusion in the production car, unlike hiding it where you can't see. Sorry for thread jacking. I'll go in my little hole, and say nothing more in this thread about it.
Oh and goatsucker, yeah that's a power steering cooler. I've got one. About 8x4" on the passenger side. Two hard lines with one U bend surrounded by heatsink surface area fins. Nissan 370Z Forum |

It's all about marketing..... |
they could take the spare tire out and just put in a inflat kit (like my MKII TT), save weight and a few duckies to put the oil cooler on and keep it at their range. But on a normal driven car now that its broke in I dont have a prob with the oil temp and Im fairly heavy footed. I really think it calms down on the temp side after its broke in. Love the power.

Seriously if people are so concerned about the oil temps, and they only apparently affect tracked cars, why don't people just install an oil cooler and/or use Motul or Redline full ESTER oil? |

I just put coolant in with the oil whenever the temp goes above 158. That's hot enough to cook an egg, I'm going to take it to the dealership and fry one up for them! :stirthepot:

Oil cooler, problem Solved!!

I go by Vettes n Porches and those boys are staring at her, Pearl White n Classy. This 1200 mile break in is taking forever.. 850 miles n counting. She is so grippy it's kind of scary.. Much different than the Old school 280zxt n 280z's I have been driving, nice change though.. Those Evo's and STI's don't even make eye contact with me anymore.. There's a new kid on the block and it's all NISSAN. Lenny Arnoth |
^My guess is that's your power steering cooler. If so, you're not the first to mistake it for an oil cooler.
