Hey guys, can anyone tell me what this button does? Its located right under my steering wheel. Seat ejection? Haha

Also, I'm getting new tires this up coming week and don't have the key to my wheel locks....I got my car used and it never came with it. Where would you guys recommend getting replacements? Thanks

not sure about the sw, but for the key, if thats a mcguard lock sold by the dealer they usually have a few keys to try.

it's to release the harness.

regarding the wheel locks:

1. go back to the dealer you bought the car from and ask if they have they key.
2. if dealer does not have the key, try to find out the manufacturer of the wheel locks and contact the company directly.
3. worst comes to worst, you will have to do what i did many years ago when i had my civic: get some titanium drill bits and a heavy duty drill, and start drilling around the locks.

wat harness?

What is the button wired to?

And I bought the car at a used car dealership about 80 miles away from home. I'll probably try my local dealer and see what they tell me. Do any of you guys have wheel locks? Debating on getting a new set or just regular lug nuts.

it's not. that button allows you to release the harness in the event you need to remove your seats.

not all wheels locks have the same key pattern. post a pic of your wheel locks and, as kenchan mentioned, if it is mcgard, then you would have to contact them.

and before on debating on getting a new set of lug nuts, let's get the ones on there off first.

the wires and the connectors....in case you ever need to pull out your seats. that's what i ended up doing when i removed mine....

If you want to keep the locks then you'll need to get the key (or the key code) from the PO or the dealer.

If you don't care about keeping the locks, what the pros do is hammer on a slightly smaller socket than the lock size and let the air impact wrench do it's thing.

It happened to me on my Ram when my "key" broke when trying to remove a lug nut.

All four "locks " were off in a few seconds.

Most likely your tire shop will know the procedure.

No such thing under my steering wheel.

JesseG805 06-19-2015 08:23 PM

I had my buddy check it out. I guess it's a dealer add on security unit.

The button looks like an aftermarket security button. My z doesn't have it either.

Zauskycop 06-20-2015 10:03 AM

Yup, I say aftermarket Add-On.

That's under his steering wheel not under his seats.

Many years ago, I was told about carjacking "prevention" method of an aftermarket alarm system. A button must be pressed upon exiting the car then at a set period of time the alarm system would kill the engine. The idea is to let the carjacker drive away and then kill the engine, rendering the car immovable yet the carjacker is far away enough so not to come back to the driver and force the driver to restart the engine.

I'd say try it in a safe area where you can pull over in the case of power loss.

That button is to set the sensitivity of your Karrtrack alarm. It is an option installed at the dealership, but by the Karrtrack company, not the dealer. Your alarm can be activated to track your vehicle using GPS on Karrtrack's website if it is activated. I suggest you contact them and give them your VIN to find out. Mine on my Z is not activated for tracking, but the alarm is. I also have it on my SRT and that is active for tracking. Install took all day because they hide the GPS tracking device very securely. Even the dealer doesn't know where it was placed. If my SRT alarm goes off, I get a text message immediately and I can track it on my phone if need be. I used the tracking when I had my vehicles shipped from CA to NC. Kept tabs on the truck driver :) It is actually a great thing you have on your Z!
