Has anyone driven a 2016?
Hello, I'm new to the forum and am seriously considering buying a 370z. The one thing holding me back is the road noise factor. I know people are knocking the 2016 for having the ASE system, but does it actually help cancel out some road noise? Has anyone driven one yet to compare? Thanks

I do the exact same thing. I hardly ever have the music on just so I can hear the noise from the Z. It's a sports car so it's all good.
|
OP, I've got a 13 sport dynomatted my doors & hatch awhile back and just put on MPSS tires today. It has less road noise than my 04 G35 coupe ever did.

Get nice exhaust and be the creator of noise.

If you're worried about road noise, a 370Z might not be the right car for you.
I do notice the noise, but consider it to be a minor inconvenience and a more than reasonable trade-off to get that kind of performance for that price. Funny thing is that my winter driver (2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD) is the quietest vehicle I've ever owned, and my Z is the noisiest. |
If you want a raw great performance car get the Z. I usually turn the radio off to make sure that I can hear the engine and stuff around me. Remember, this car is not a 100K Mercedes Benz.
|
I test drove a 2016 Nismo last week. It didn't seem appreciably quieter than the 2015 I drove last month.
I didn't really notice the fake engine noise, either, but I mostly had the windows down. |

If you need to be coddled about road noise, any form of raw sports car isn't the correct car for you.
Now excuse me while I go dynamat my Harley.... |
I own a 16 Touring Sport Coupe, 6 spd. I noticed that I hear a lot of the dirt hitting the inner wheel wells but I think that can be attributed to the fact that there is not a lot of sound deadening material between the metal structure and the interior plastics. As far as hearing road noise...never been a problem for me I want to hear the engine.

be funny if op was looking at the convertibles.
im worried about road noise and also wind noise...? :ugh: |
I Dynomatted the rear and the doors and it got rid of a massive amount of road noise.
Now the engine is what I get to listen to instead of all of the crappy roads here. |

Thanks to those that actually answered the question. The rest of you...well...thanks for telling me to buy a luxury car.
Perhaps i should've phrased it like this: the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on a '15 is if the' 16's improved road noise any, then i would get a '16. Yeesh. |

IF you're going to be so sensitive to road noise albeit it's a subjective thing? Your better off in luxury sports car. If you haven't take one for a test drive find out for yourself IF they're really that noisy. |
Have a MY16, never drove the MY15 so can't comment, but yeah it's a raw sports car and you'll hear it all on a bad road. Doesn't bother me though, knew what I was buying ;).
|
I'm sure changing out the stock tread for better tread would quite down the road noise. And you'll get better traction. Win win.

Sports cars are noisy... Smh
|
the Z might not be for you man. i can gladly direct to the local Toyota dealership, i hear they have a killer deal on some 15' Prius's....

I say that, and I haven't driven a 2016. But you know, road noise is kinda subjective as you can see by all the different responses. I have a 2014 sport/touring and there is road noise. Is it objectionable ... no. And over time, you tune it out. AND, if you intend to track or autox, that road noise then becomes dynamic input for driving your hotrod NISMO at speed. You will appreciate the tactile and auditory sense you get from the car. DUDE ... buy it ... have fun now! |
IMO, the stock tires are fairly noisy. I don't have much to complain after ditching it for Hankook or Continental. For the money, I really like the Continental tires. This is my longest lasting set. Even though it's almost time to get new tires after over 2 years, it has plenty of grip.

Road noise?
TreeSemdyZee... I'm interested in your Dynomatt install and the results without killing the engine noise. Can I get more info?
|
OP - I love my exhaust note and the road noise is minimal on GOOD PAVEMENT ONLY!
I've driven on 71 on my way back from houston and it really is unbearable at times, especially for 35-40miles at 75+mph. I am planning on putting some CLD tiles or some sort of a deadening material in the trunk for sure because that is where most of the noise comes from. I've heard that maybe we can apply some rear fender liners or something to lessen the noise from the rocks flying up. I love engine noise, I don't need road noise. |

Replaced my stock tires with Continentals (ProContacts, as I recall) and the horrible road noise was immediately reduced by, probably, 60%. Worked for me.
