Default Clutch Trouble?

My clutch just started making a "clunk" noise right at the top of the travel upon full release, and feels a bit different. The engagement feels the same as far as I can tell. Is this a sign of clutch wear, slave cylinder trouble, or maybe bad hydraulic fluid? 96000 miles, factory clutch.

sounds like slave cylinder. Mine started the same way. You can try doing a fluid change to see if that helps.

96k miles on factory seems really good.

have you checked underneath / around the clutch pedal to see if anything is catching or interefering with the movement?

then check if the fluids have dropped it's probably a sign your csc is about gone (or maybe even master).

and finally if those are not the cause... have you tried a cluth slip test? drop into 4th or 5th and do a WOT from low rpm to check for any slipping.

yah, first step check fluid level. It should be at MAX. If not it's probably leaking.

If it is at MAX, then change your clutch fluid if you haven't already. i used dot3/4 valvoline.

Better to be OCD than stranded or in a wall.

like the brake lines if there was tiny bit of air in the system, i can work its way up to the reservoir resulting in a tiny drop. that is considered non issue.

good thinking you marked it. i took a picture of it and saved in my phone. i like to use modern technology...

What about when shifting through the gears and onto third it drags before it "bites". What do you think is happening? Occurs to me when gas to the floor shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Happened twice already. Slipping?

Can you hear it when the car is off and you cycle the clutch pedal?
