Trade 2013 370z for Infiniti G37 coupe???

There is a 2013 G-37 coupe with about 20k miles for around $28.5 k. My gunmetal sports package has about the same mileage and manual. The former has a nicer interior plus a back seat and navigation. It's a 7 speed automatic ( also 6 speed paddle shifters I guess).

The wife has a Prius and we have a 12 year old so anytime we all go out, we use the Prius. It's tempting to trade so we could go out of town in a nicer car.

Should I trade? What should I pay in difference?

Do it! Sounds like you can justify the change and nicer upgrade from a pure sports car 2 seater

I wouldn't do it just because the Z > G.

But with a 12 year old ... G > Prius. So yeah, I'd consider that.

I'm no expert on pricing, but I bet a couple thousand would cover the difference if you trade it.

I wouldn't plunge into a G37 anytime soon since they already showed the Q60 coupe concept. Best case is they show a production vehicle later this year and it hits dealers early next year. Worst case it wouldn't hit dealers till late 2016. That's my guess anyway. I'd at least wait to see the new q60 production vehicle.

The op doesn't want a new vehicle, he wants close to even trade

$28.5k is close enough to a brand new base Z and the OP wants practicality as he mentions back seats and better interior. It's not like he's about to file chapter 11 and needs cash now. It's just something to consider since he will probably still be in the Z or the G37 and paying for it when the new Q60 comes out.

They will rape you with a trade in, and you need to pay sales tax. Is a third car an option? If so maybe get a sedan or suv, since the G is not that roomy in the back either

MagmaRed370z 05-08-2015 08:57 PM

I would not do it. They wouldn't give you what your Z is worth. Plus taxes and all the other fees.

The question you need to ask yourself is; how many more payments do you have? I have a new born and I only have 2 more years til mine is paid for. I will suck it up and ride in a Honda Civic until my Z is paid for and go out and buy a sports sedan (I know, sports and sedan don't belong in the same sentence). That's the plans for me though...

Check to see how many months you have left until you make your decision...

My car is paid off, if I trade, I will pay the difference in cash. However, my wife says that we are probably better off renting a car the few times we go out of town or use the Prius unless it is a great deal.

I am leaning towards keeping my car.

if your car is paid off, you should have some equity in the Z, however, like others have said, you will not get what the car is worth and are better off selling it privately rather than trade. but since you mentioned you are leaning towards keeping your car:

1. why not trade the prius for the G?

or

2. just have a decent down payment and finance the rest for the G?

also, your profile states you have an 06 Z, but your post says otherwise (though non-descriptive). is your vehicle a 350 or 370?

We have both the G37S (auto) and 370Z (6 sp), both fully loaded with sport/touring package & Nav.

I think the interior is almost the same in quality, but I like the Z's arrangement with red instrument lighting better and the orange/black two tone interior. Both are great looking cars - sport car & sport coupe.

The G's ride is softer/quieter, sunroof, good size trunk and small back seats. If you like these features and don't want to miss the Z performance, then the G37S is perfect for you because it drives very much like the Z and has a better sounding exhaust. However, the Z does handle better.

My old man had an '08 G37 with that trashy 5-speed automatic gear box...that was such a terrible car! It felt so much bigger than my Z, and while the exhaust note was nice, nothing an aftermarket exhaust can't fix. I guess maybe the 7-speed will be better, plus it is a car that is 5 years newer than what I had driven.

Back seats were unusable for any normal person sitting up front, I don't think your 12-year old will be that comfortable...not for long anyways. I don't think I would go back to automatic if given a choice but if it is necessary, than I would.
