No sir, just look up "bump key". You will be amazed, surprised or scared on how easily a person can open a door with basically "just the wrong key". And the scary thing about is that there is no damage nor signs of forced entry.

I know what you mean but that only serves to give you a false confidence that your property is safe, when in fact it is not. The one thing I can think of is getting tilt sensor installed, otherwise you're really at their mercy and hope they only take your wheels and not creating any damages to your vehicle.

yah, +1 to that. they can take my wheels but dont damage the car while doing it. :mad: wheels are easy to replace.

I have USAA, which is supposed to be a good insurance. I have never had a claim before, so I guess I'll be putting there reputation to the test. The USAA certified body shop I took it to said they really cant get a good idea of how much damage was done until they order wheels and tires and install them so they can get the car on a lift. But the tech said that he thinks the rotors and calipers should be replaced; between the POS dropping the car on the front rotors and the tow dragging the vehicle on the rotors Plus they did cosmetic damage to the calipers, not sure how, maybe they were trying to take them too.

I have USAA as well I honestly have never heard anything bad about them. I'm retired military and everyone told me to go with them while I was in so I've just carried them but I haven't had to make any claims. I did call about 2 weeks ago and the lady said on top of full coverage they can cover an additional 20% over the value of the vehicle and they have some sort of $5000 additional coverage also. It cost me like an extra $14 a month to add all that since I'm modded.

Hope they cover everything for you their track record seems great.

I had USAA for over 15 years and I had to cancel their policy. I'm like you retired military and once I moved to NJ my insurance went from $240 a month to $460 a month (and no Z included) and that was by lowering all coverage just to be in compliance with the law. I call them several times to "review" my policy and nothing was done. So after 8 months of abuse, I started to look for a better insurance. By adding the Z, my policy was going to jump at $650 per month with USAA. I found a local Allstate agent and now I pay $330 per month with better and higher coverage limits than USAA. Allstate send me a check for "good driver" 6 months into the policy for almost the same amount USAA was sending just once a year with SSA subscriber savings account. I have an excellent driving record no reckless, no DWI, never totaled a vehicle and so on.

That seems high.. I live in Brooklyn and give Geico 180 ish per month, albeit full coverage I choose high deductibles.

I pay $119 a month for full coverage + the extras I mentioned. I just have one vehicle and just myself for coverage. Maybe that could be the difference.

Currently I pay 330 and that is for a Venza, a Rav4, Ducati 1198 and the Z. So 3 vehicles and a bike for 330 a month I figure is ok. That's is why when I moved to NJ just for the two Toyotas and the bike I was paying almost 500 per month and that was way too high. I was looking at getting the Z again but the insurance was going to kill me. Once I went to Allstate and got a decent quote that's when I decided to get my Z again.

Sorry to hear about this. I am gonna go figure a method to stamp my details inside the rims moving forward. Not much of a security measure but hey..

Man I feel you about getting hit while your car is parked, I parked my car far away from everyone at a supermarket and some jerkoff still manages to hit me :mad: we can't ever have nice things.

People have no consideration for others and how hard they work for their stuff. The $%&#*& better pray that the law catches them before some extremely irate angry SOB finds them. USAA will take good care of you. Seeing this makes me want to invest in a GPS Viper Alarm.

I thought my insurance was high until I read this thread geez:eek:!! I was at $200 a month for 370z, GSXR1000 and BMW 323i, sold the bike and the rate went down to $88 a month for both cars full coverage 5/5 deductible. Moved from Hawaii to Florida with just the Bimmer and it went up to $120. Was told because of the hurricanes/storms is the reason it went up which makes sense. I have USAA as well. Currently with the FRS and the 370z paying $175. I also had a very bad driving record when I was much younger, mostly speeding violations. My record has been clean for quite some time now.

I hope you get taken care of, on the positive side you get new wheels, rotors, and from the pics looks like sides skirts/other panels and possibly a fresh paint job. I would talk with the body shop and see what you could work out on going aftermarket for wheels and rotors if that's something you wanted to do in the future anyway. Either way good luck and again sorry about this.

Same thing happened to my friend in Nov of last year. He lives in SE DC in view of the Nationals Baseball stadium. They took his rims when his car was parked right in his driveway. Since then, he sold his car. Was tired of being worried all the time.

I'm buying a second car just to park at the park & ride. The Sentra I was looking at fell through. So I got a loan for 7k, hopefully I can find something nice that's not a target. I think anything low end like a civic, fit, versa, Mazda3 should fit the bill.

Civic's and mazda 3 (speed 3 engines a quick little bastards) could still be a "targeted vehicle". The most stolen cars in US are civic, camry, accord. The reason is since they are too many of them, the demand for parts is high as well. If you want to be totally worry free you need a ford ranger or a geo metro. :icon17:
I had a "semi" nice Evolution back in the day and I used to drive to work/errands around town an old Chevy S-10 POS. It was red with a blue tailgate and had nothing but what came from factory. Not even the radio was upgraded and it had an anemic 4 cylinder engine.
I have a friend who owns a 911 Porsche but drives a Geo Metro to work and around town.

They took his wheels, but that is after breaking the windows and finding the lug key. I think this was more of a regular robbery that became more opportunistic when they found the key in the car.

If you carry your lug key around you, have a full set of lug locks on your rims, and have a security system in your car, then you did your part. If something still happens to your car after taking all your precautions, well that's what comprehensive insurance is for.

So body shop just called and said they need to replace the calipers as well but not the rotors. How much do you all think the calipers will cost? They couldn't quote me yet because they hadn't ordered them.

Parts department at local nissan dealer said $1800. Actually surprised, I was figuring more; though they are not Brembos. I Had an issue with the brembos on my 03 Track back in the day. I remember them quoting me around $1200 for a single rear.
