Question Regarding Air Filter

Hello Guys,

I just replaced both of my air filters and was wondering do I have to oil the air filter before putting them in? I saw a video on the internet and some guy was saying "already comes oiled up, so you don't have to worry about that"...

I just swapped them, I took out the old air filters and put on the new air filters... No oil just swapping...

My air filter had no oil what so ever. Really clean and dry.

Please let me know if I did something wrong.

Any information would be very helpful.

I think the ones that come oiled up are the CAI or Short RAM ones only. The stock air filters on any car, from my understanding, do not come/need to be oiled up.

Stock air filters are dry. You can purchase upgraded K&N and aFe filters that are oiled, but frankly the aFe dry filters works fine.

yah, no need to oil stock filters.

Hmm ... makes me wonder if the K&N drop ins are oiled. I will report back on this because they currently languish in a box.

On another note

What kind of oil should I use to oil my filters? :bowrofl:

K&N sells a kit for cleaning and re-oiling its filters. YouTube has several good videos on how to clean and re-oil your K&N filter; just remember to go easy on the oil.

I just installed a set of K&N Drop-Ins and they are def oiled.

Should have read more on the K&N site. Says they are oiled right there on the site. I am not really to excited about putting oiled filters on the Z.

they work fine. its when people douse them with too much oil after cleaning the filters that cause gunked up maf and tb..

one only needs to sparingly spray the filters. no more.
