Throttle scare

This is my story.

I get home and 1 hour later i go back to the car so i can park it in the garage. I was going to park it in reverse so i place the car in reverse gear so i can get off the drive way. Doing so the car stalls as soon as the car does that i immediatly turn it back on and it keeps stalling i notice that when i push the throttle the car wont go past 2500 rpm and its stuggleing to be in that range so the only way i could get the car to move was by riding the cluth and pretty much florring it through until i was inside the garage. My question is any idea what could of caused the car to act out. Its a 2009 with about 77K miles on it and i dont really race it on average my crusing speed is 80mph and i ease it up to that speed..please guys help me out if you got any ideas or suggestions...i checked out the fluids and they are fine also

Were any check lights or engine lights on? Was there any massages on the display section as a warning? What have you checked and what not?
I suggest to start with basics such as check all the connections, air hoses, intake hoses, fuses, and anything that might be out of the ordinary. My second suggestion and I don't know if you have made any power mods, is to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for about a minute or two, then reconnect and start it again. If you don't find anything then use a code scanner and see what codes you get. Check those codes on line and that would give you an idea.
You need to be more specific as how and when is the car stalling. Is it doing it as son as you press the gas pedal or as soon as you put it in gear? is the idling ok or not? Be more specific with your details, maybe someone here has had the same issues.

Maybe the fuel pump is on its way out. ^^^ check for codes.

Thanks i did not check the hoses i only have stillen gen 3 intakes and i had them for like 2 years. The car did not have any lights come on and when i hade it on idle it would barely climb up to thhe normal ifle which is like 500or 1000 i believe . Also my fuel pump was replace about a year ago by nissan

bad gas maybe? sounds like you were in limp mode.

check your maf sensor and tb for cleanliness.

kenchan 04-16-2015 01:11 PM

Definately check for Potatoes in exhaust I have seen this every time this occurs.

I love that Kenchan adds his real comments and right below, his I am a comedian post.

Never a dull moment with you sir. :tiphat:

I would check your MAF sensors clean them just to make sure and do the battery reset. I would have said bad fuel pump but you had it replaced maybe bad gas.

While reading this post, it occurred to me that Batman, at least the original Batman, also parks the Batmobile in reverse in the Bat-cave. Well, there is a turnstile involved but he still gets to exit going forward. Very cool.

This sounds very similar to my situation...

In my case, after the car starts the rpm gets super low to a point where the car sounds like its about to stall. So sometimes, after starting the car, I have to press the gas just a little bit to make sure that the car does not turn off...

By the way, when I press the gas paddle (very lightly) after starting the car, this revs for good 1~2 seconds as if I am holding the gas paddle for 1-2 seconds and it gets super loud (loud vrooom!)... but in reality all i did was just a little dab to the gas paddle...

After doing some research I came to a conclusion that it is a dirty throttle body... btw I found about this yesterday and I have yet to clean my throttle, so there is a possibility that it might not be a throttle related... But for me all sources point to throttle...

FYI, my car has 57k miles on it... You might also want to search "issue wtih rpm while idle" as to I found many issues related to this...

GL!!!

This is perfectly normal in my experience. It happened before and after my tune. And it still happens even after MAF and TB cleaning.

maro 04-17-2015 04:03 PM

i had same problem

your fuel pump is bad

i got mine replaced under warranty a week before expired lucky

kenchan 04-17-2015 04:04 PM

Sometimes it shuts down after starting...

Not normal. My guess is there is something else going on there. Before I cleaned my TBs, my idle would occasionally dip under 500 and the engine would shudder. But never stalled. If cleaning the MAFs/TBs doesn't fix it you have to start looking elsewhere. That is just the first troubleshooting step because it's very easy to do and a good maintenance practice that often goes overlooked :twocents:

alcheng 04-17-2015 06:57 PM

fuel pump or fuel line or both.

happened to the bimmer I had... start the engine, then stalled, start again, then it sounds like coughing... idle a bit, little rough, then it runs normally....

I checked the exhaust and found no potato... the pipe is too small for a potato... maybe a tomato....
