My scotchguard clear bra quote
$795 for fender, front bumper, side mirrors and partial hood, about 23 inches
Seems good compared to other numbers i randomly seen on this site. Thoughts? |
Hindsight being 20/20 I would of paid that when I bought mine if I could do it over. Only thing I would change is I would do the whole hood as that line will become more visible over time, more so depending on the color and how it is cared for.
|
My car is white so is that more or less likely of it being visible
|
There is some debate that if done right that dirt/debris cannot get under the edge of the clear bra. From what I have seen this is not always the case and when dirt/debris starts to collect along that edge then the "invisible" line is no longer invisible to the naked eye. I am more picky than that and can see the line even when it is first applied. Just my :twocents:
|
I did the whole hood for that reason and used Expell not Scotchguard or 3M.
|
I don't know about white, but mine is brilliant silver and I thought it would be noticeable, but really, unless you are a couple of inches away from the car and looking for it, you won't notice it.
I got the same as you are getting but he used 3M Ventureshield if I remember correctly. |
Sounds like a good price, a full front bumper would be about $350 or so.
The question you gotta ask though, if you do a partial hood, would you be kicking yourself if you got hit with a rock on the part of the hood not protected? You'll say "darn, maybe I should have had the entire hood done." Too late. Plus the line that you won't see at first won't be invisible when you get dust on it. And no, a properly applied PPF won't get stuff under the film but it'll hide along the edge, and you'll see it. Just splurge and get the whole hood, thank us later. You're welcome. Oh, and ask for proof that it's the brand he says it is. He may say it's XPEL or Suntek but he's really giving you 3M Ventureshield. Let him show you the box the film comes in, or some documentation showing what brand it is. I've had that happen in the past with tint saying it was what I was buying but really it was a lower quality tint, he still charged the higher price. All film and tint looks the same, so you should be shown it is what he says it is. -RyanG |

I guess so at this point i should consider full hood. Thanks for input

partial hood and fender sucks, i speak from experience.
i installed it, and the next day i tore it off because of the visible line. :icon17: if you're having a shop install it, makes sure they use the rolls, not pre-cut. i mentioned this many times, but precut is for hobbists like me that install them at home. |
Jesus christ i did not expect full hood and fender to be so high. Called a local guy he seemed very good at the job. Laser cut film. Full hood fenders headlights bumper mirror and part of side doors, $1790. Free claybar detail! Lmao

I got a quote of $500 just for my front bumper with expel film

And again, find out what product he's using and have him prove it is what he says it is. If he charges you that much, make sure its EXPEL or Suntek. Any 3M product at that price is too much. Also he should cut it himself with a machine or custom cut it, if he buys it pre-cut, it won't protect as much area because they leave a margin for error in installing and the gaps are bigger. If you're paying that much to protect your car, it better cover everything. -RyanG |
You could just have the whole front end repainted cheaper than that. Are people really paying $1500+ for a clear bra?

He was also surprised to find that the 370 is just about the only car he was able to get a precut for EVERY panel on the car if you wanted. (Xpel) 104 |

In both instances, I went to the same place that installed it and I got the car back better than before with new film. Keep in mind that with painting, it costs A LOT more than just taking off and replacing film. Plus it takes 2-3 days for it to fully dry then put it back on, and guess what, the moment you drive your car with the new paint, it's immediately exposed to more rock chips. At least with film, it doesn't chip, it doesn't show anything that hits it unless it's big enough to rip a hole in it. Bolded for emphasis... PPF doesn't scratch, or chip, or crack, the only reason to take it off is if something big enough cuts a hole in it. The material used is practically the same stuff you'd put on your cell phone's screen to protect it, for the same reasons. Film might seem like it costs a lot, but iI'd rather pay ~$400 to replace the film on the front bumper and get the car back the same day than go through painting. -RyanG |
OK..Full disclosure
Since this might be of value to someone, and since I'm not one of those people that remain secretive about money and things, here's full disclosure.
I had Xpel (cut by my detailer in house off bulk rolls using Xpel computer templates) installed on the front bumper, (two pieces) headlamp lenses, full hood, A pillars, mirrors (two pieces each side) both front fenders, both rocker panels and a strip behind the rear wheel wells. The car was completely color corrected and prepped front to back beforehand. Wheels off as well. I had owned the car just over a month and had not waxed it. I think I had only washed it twice at that point. It has not seen rain since September. Anything that didn't get covered in Xpel Ultimate got C-Quartz Finest. I had the Sport 19" wheels C-Quartzed entirely as well including the barrels. I was able to get it wet after 24 hours, but was not to wash it for 2 weeks. (IIRC) I left it a month before I washed it. I paid $2500 CDN taxes in. (about $2100 USD approx. today) I had a quote from a US detail shop in WA state and they were substantially higher in US dollars. It was going to be in the neighbourhood of $4000 CDN in the end. (Opti Coat substituted for C-Quartz however) The only issue I had to face was, could the guy up here do the job, or was I going to have to have the WA guys repair a botched job? I was assured multiple times that he was up to the task, took my chances and I'm real happy with the results. 104 |

I had some light to moderate damage to my front bumper from track usage and asked for a repair quote from Carsmetics. Humorously, to take off the bumper, repair the damage in about 6 places, re-paint and re-clearcoat was going to be around $350. But to replace the clearbra I have on the bumper (just the bumper) was quoted at $490. The repair shop couldn't believe the cost. I decided it wasn't worth it since I would obviously lose the clearbra during the repairs and would definitely need to replace it after the repairs, more than doubling the total cost.

i rather spend 350 and clearbra my bumper at home and replace it every 3-4yrs. unless you got crappy aftermarket paint that was improperly applied, paint will not lift. |
