Little Help Here

Hello Everyone,

Hope everyone is having a good day.

I had an odd experience this past weekend and I wanted people's opinions on it...

So this Saturday, I tried to start my car and just as its about to start, the car just died. I clicked the start button and literally after 0.1 sec, the car just died as if you unplugged your computer off the back wall... At this point I noticed my keyfob wasn't working and when I open my door, the windows weren't rolling down as well. At this point, I thought it had to do with battery (recently my battery died at work and I had to replace them (in the dark)... So I opened my battery cover and make sure they weren't loose.

I tried starting the car and it started! And the sound felt amazing! It was loud and crispt (time reset)... However I tried starting my car today and the sound wasn't all that there...

Like the car starts and it sounds like its about to die as it turns on... (like when you stall in first gear)... that is what it sounds like when I start my car... So the car starts and the sound gets lower and lower to a point where it almost feels like the car is about to die but it doesnt and it feels like it barely hangs on...

Hopefully this makes sense... Did anyone else had this issue?
Any information would be helpful...

When I start my car, I almost want to press the gas paddle in the beginning because it almost sounds like the car is about to die... it barely hangs on and sounds really weak...

Hope this makes sense?

Like after you start ur car, u know how the rpm calms down a bit? Well in my case, it almost feels like the cars about to turn off as the rpm is calming down...

Are you sure?
Got any more info?

kenchan 03-30-2015 04:47 PM

if the engine turns over but sputters, then your tb might be dirty.. or your maf sensor.. or you got bad gas.

I'm glad you posted this because i have the same exact issue. Of course the dealer can NEVER duplicate it. I have a 2012 370Z-R

I also have a 2011 Infiniti FX35 and it does and sounds the exact same.

Considering both cars now, sometimes it will happen 2 times in a row. I am very sensitive to it now so the second i feel like its about to happen i just barely tap the gas and it starts just fine.

I use 91 gas at Shell or Cheveron religiously so i doubt bad gas because the performance never lacks.

I used to have a 2009 370Z Base, same issue. So now 2 "different" Z's and an FX35 all have the same issue. Maybe its a bad part similiar to the sterring lock of the ealier 2009-2010 Z models.

If its helps any, I go to the track every now and then and this issue never gets worse or domino's into anything else. If the dealer can fix it let me know what it is please, if not, i wouldn't worry about it too much

AS long as we are talking about the same thing that is lol

For my situation, I don't actually need to press the gas paddle...
But sometimes I feel like I have too because I feel like the car is going to die otherwise (like as if u stall in 1st gear)...

Like when you start your car the sound should be "VROOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

For my car, its more of "VROOM *pause* (low vrooomsss)"...

And during this *PAUSE* my car has died (while starting the car) couple times...

Hope this makes sense...

I feel like this is an issue regarding my battery... I feel like there is some sort of connectivity issue....

When my car died this Saturday I checked the battery and made sure nothing was loose. Once I did this, the car key started working and windows were working again... And when I started the car after making sure that nothing was loose in battery, the car started amazingly... sounded super loud (loudest starts in months) and fresh... But its no longer like that... its back to very weak start and almost feel like the car is gonna turn off the moment you start the car...

Hope this makes sense... Thanks for all the support guys...

if it is the battery or alternator, wat does your volt meter read (the triple gauge)?

I am not sure of the exact number but I will check soon... But I recently had my battery replaced (couple months ago)... So I am thinking its either the battery connection or I might of done something wrong when I was replacing the battery?

Merv 03-30-2015 07:58 PM

Could a bad ground cause this? Maybe find out from the manual where all ground contact points are and check them over.... That's all I got. :ugh2:

kenchan 03-30-2015 08:07 PM

Yah, check the torque on the terminal screws.

On the volt meter should show about 14v while engine is running.

I just checked and it stays around 14.4v...

kenchan 03-30-2015 08:30 PM

That's a good sign your alternator is working.

Car sounded pretty good this morning... I feel like this issue happens more often during daytime when its hotter... Here are some more information...

Couple months ago during lunch I wanted get some energy drink. I drove over to the nearby gas station (less than 0.5 mile away). Parked and got an energy drink and got back into my car. I started the car and sounded super weak and just as it finished starting, the car died very quietly (as if you slowly stalled in first gear)... I tried starting again but this time I pressed the brake pad and the car started (idk if the brakes is what did it or if its just a coincidence).... But I can tell the car was having difficulty... Sounded really weak and it was rattling just a bit maybe... During this time I remember the weather being pretty hot... Couple weeks later my battery died and I had to replace it in my company parking lot at around 9pm... When I replaced the battery and started the car, the car sounded amazing! Super loud and fresh... You might be wondering, "where are you going with this?" Anyone think that maybe i screwed up on installing the new battery? Only thing I can think of is that, during that time it was really dark so maybe I missed something?

I feel like this past Saturday event is somewhat related. After my car died this Saturday (windows wouldn't roll down when doors are opened, key not working, alarms not working), I checked my battery to see if there were any loose connections. After checking that, my car was able to start (even though i found nothing)... But it sounded just like as if I got a new battery... Super loud and fresh....

Also anyone know any good deals on socket wrench/ratchets? Or where is a good place to go? When I used to live with my family, I used my dad's tool but now that I live on my own, I want to buy my own set. Any good deals wrench/ratchets would nice...

Hopefully this makes sense... And again, thanks for all the supports!

You can always try to look for a Harbor Freight in you area, the quality is fair and you have to keep your reciepts because you will return at least 1 thing at some point, but they have almost everything you need.

sucks, hope you get it worked out.

Davey 03-31-2015 03:14 PM

Probably the car is mad at you for drinking that energy drink stuff. My car gets pissed if I drink anything but bourbon, coffee, and water.

Sungazer 03-31-2015 05:10 PM

I've had this issue before.

Does it feel like a rough idle/drop when you start it up (when it's warm) and occasionally at stop lights and stuff? It occasionally stalls (turns off) when you start it up and it's kinda warm right?

For me, it's dirty throttle bodies. They need to be cleaned. As soon as I clean them, the problem goes away for a looooong time (until they get dirty again). Can't be a coincidence of course lol.

I actually just cleaned mine out again last weekend. Only problem was I stripped one of the allen bolts trying to get one of the throttle bodies off! D: hahahaha. Shitty, but that's an adventure for another day.

Try it out. Again, could be dirty throttle bodies. Doesn't hurt.

Hey JZNx, I see you're in socal. Hit me up if you have any questions dude.
