Burning plastic...
My cars been smelling like burning plastic a few times after I drive. I just went up the road to put gas and when I shut the vehicle off it smelt like it. I wasn't even driving the car hard and I haven't done any electrical work so I'm having trouble pin-pointing the source. Any advice?

I'd also like to note that I haven't observed any white smoke from any where inside/outside the vehicle.

Might just be a plastic bag that melted to the exhaust.

Had the tranny pulled and all that inspected to. Only thing I haven't checked is the heater core.

some gaskets smoke a little bit during break-in, but not sure about a plastic smell... :ugh:

It sounds like you've had a lot of work done on the car recently... that means everything from a plastic bag that got under there, to a seeping gasket, to somebody dropped a plastic clip that managed to get lodged somewhere could be the cause.
You may want to get the car on a lift and inspect everything to see if you can find evidence of something burning to pin point it. Good luck -- hopefully something very minor. |
How would I test for a leaking gasket?

id just go under the car while it's running and visually check or listen..
