275/40/19 Rear Tires
 

I needed a new set in the back. I recently purchased the car last month and new I needed new tires in the rear. Front was fine. I have the sports wheels which come with bridgestone potenzas stock in 275/35/19. I found used Hankook EVO V12's with about 60% thread left and got them install for $80. Went this route to save money. I felt a bit worried about having a different size in the back than what stock was at first but I've noticed the ride is bit smoother. Bumps in the road is not as harsh. So far the car is fine. Only been two days tho. Anyone have experience with this? Will this damage anything in any way?

You might have ABS, VDC issues as your front tire diameter is smaller than your rear by a certain margin. In other words, your car thinks your front wheels are going faster than your rear wheels so it might throw an ABS code. However if you haven't received a code yet then you are probably fine.

2013 I tan into something similar. my Michelin PSS rear were dead about 3-4 weeks prior to me putting my car away for winter. i'm not one to drive an unsafe car so I found a local friend with Pirelli 275/40/19 tires. I ran those for the remaining few weeks just as emergency/back up tires and had no issues. no VDC/ABS lights etc..

I don't believe the diameter difference was off enough to set off any lights nor do any damage. I still got another set of the 275/40/19s as back ups again. guy sold me 4 brand new top notch summer Pirellis for $100. :tiphat:

As long as you try and keep similar diameters to OEM, then you should be fine as far as lights and stuff go. But if the treads are significantly different, you might encounter some dangerous conditions in the rain. I have done it a couple times and did not have any problems - once after the stock rears ran out and the fronts were still fine and once when one of my rear tires separated and a fellow forum member at Discount Tire hooked me up with some used tires from their stash on the same day.

'd be funny if the treads are pointing in the wrong direction..

275/40-19,a tad too heavy..285/35-19 the best.

i think the op said 60% worn or something to compensate the larger circumference... or so.

thanks for all the helpful replies guys. I did some hard driving today and didnt feel any issues. I do like how the ride isnt as rough as is it was on the Bridgestones. I'm in Cali so rain isnt a issue at moment even though we wish it was lol. I'll be getting the right size once these wear out and I replace all 4.Looks wise you cant even tell. People at work check my car out everyday and no one even noticed. Even after I told one of them he said he can't tell. plus the wheel well seems more filled which I like.

on a side note I install the GT-R Start button today. So freakin easy and quick. less than 2 mins of work and looks awesome. Should have been this way stock.

Funny you should mention that. Since I was working on the rear diff bushing that day, I already had the car up and just took the wheels up to Discount Tire in the Acura. It was almost closing time when I got the tires mounted. I drove home and went to put them on, knowing they were asymmetrical tires, and promptly realized they were installed backwards.

BUT .... take note if you want to hear about how customer service should work ....

I called him up 10 minutes after they closed. He apologized, saying that one of their new guys did the work. He told me to bring it back to take care of it. The last car was just getting finished up when I arrived about 30 minutes after closing. He brought the new guy over to apologize to me personally and then actually took the time to explain to the guy why they were backwards rather than just tell him to fix it. The new guy was embarrassed but very polite, and I was happy with the way he treated my rims (I watched him both times). All hope is not lost :tup:

He was a fellow Z owner that I already knew, so we were cool. And you're exactly right, it was an innocent mistake; a teaching opportunity. I knew as soon as he explained it to me, and he apologized that he didn't do it himself.

I was going to say that they answered the phones after closing, but I remember I called him directly on his cell. So that was nice and convenient for me. But what was also nice was it wasn't even an issue. The whole attitude was 'let's make this right and make sure it doesn't happen again'. Every one - him and the new guy. Very refreshing :)

Using a almost gone tyre on the Z is the most stupid decision:inoutroflpuke:,except you decided to drive like a grandfather...not exceeding 70 km/h.
