370z Facts

Hello,

I'm fairly new here. I currently own a 2008 350z HR 6 speed for almost a year now and was thinking about trading it in for a 370z. Now I know that the 350z had an engine upgrade in 2007 and the 06 had oil consumption problems. I'm just wondering if the 370z had the same problems throughout the year or is there any cons about it? Right now, I'm debating between a roadster or a coupe, so any opinions on those are helpful too as well.

Thanks

you live in minnesota? get a coupe.

BC416 03-17-2015 02:08 PM

Read the stickies on here for some good info.

2009-2010s have steering lock issue but that has been recalled.

All of the 370z's have issues with the CSC if you plan on buying manual.

Coupe vs. roadster is all about what you want.

The 370z engines drink a bit of oil. About a quart between oil changes. At first I thought there was something wrong with my engine, but after looking into it,this seems par for the course. And yes,get yourself into a 370,you won't regret it!:tiphat:

Much has to do with your planned use. Is it a daily driver, will you track it, or just a cruiser. Tracking has possible issues with brakes and oil temp. Like BC416 said read the stickies, if you get the manual the clutch slave cylinder (CSC) is a problem, and 09-10 models with steering lock issues. So yea, what BC416 said.

My first choice was a roadster but my wife is sun averse. Got the coupe.

Fact: Z drivers think they are better looking than they really are.

Impossible... I could not possibly be better looking than I am, so how could I think I am better looking than I really am?

Not all Z's have oil consumption issues. I've owned two and they both were fine.
Issues with 370's and the fix...
CSC: buy a ZSpeed HD CSC
overheating: Buy an oil cooler if you plan on traking it
fuel starve: Talk to Phunk about his RRP, or new thing he's building... if you're tracking it
exhaust is awful: Buy a better exhaust
SOME, not all engines may burn oil: add more oil
base models: trade for a SP model of if your ballin, a Nismo.
Low power: add boost (which snowballs into not enough tire)
Steering lock: pull fuse or get the recall fix done.

Good Luck!

370Z's are notorious for running hot oil on the track. Day to day driving they are a dream.

I have had a 2009 coupe (base) and now I have a 2012 Roadster fully loaded with the sport package. I see/feel no difference in performance. You'll read that coupes are a bit faster and more nimble which may be true when looking into the science of it and what sensors/meters tell you but out of sheer enjoyment and casual track days, there is absolutely no difference IMO.

If its your DD, go coupe. If its a toy/weekend car go Roadster.

My '09 that I bought new and have used synthetic oil in since the first change burned about 1.25 quarts of oil every 5000 miles. That was with Redline 5W-30 oil. I switched to Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30 at 35,000 miles and the oil consumption dropped to less than half a quart every 5000 miles. Maybe it was the oil, maybe the engine just settled down and was fully broken in.
The bad news is that the Pennz. Ultra is no longer available so we'll see what happens when I switch back to Redline when my stash of Ultra is used up.

Recall for Steering Lock
Service Bulletin for clicking axles
On your own for CSC or oil/brake overheating issues (if you track it).
It's a decent car.

I had an 07 350Z that I recently traded for an 09 370Z. Luckily, I don't have any of the issues that other members speak of and I also check my oil level weekly and my car doesn't burn any oil, but then again, I don't abuse my car. Every car, even if it's the same year/model/make/etc., will be different.

I'm glad I made the upgrade, however, there are a few elements of the 350Z that I do miss:

1. rear windshield wiper
2. rear quarter panel window is alot more functional, whereas on the 370Z, it's basically impossible to see out that window.
3. stock exhaust note on 350Z is more pronounced and a bit deeper.
4. the ability to open my truck from the key fob - can't do it on a 370Z.

Side note: It is now Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum.

I've owned my car all this time and I never noticed that. You just made me go look at my key fob . Of course with keyless entry standard (2013) you just walk up and touch the button above the license plate to open.

Isn't the smart key standard on all 370s?

I can't remember, I thought it was the last refresh addition at 2013 but I could be wrong.

Yup, it's standard in all 370Zs.

Davey 03-20-2015 06:15 AM

I don't remember anything spectacular about my 350Z seats vs. my 370Z seats.

I owned a 04 350Z roadster with touring. I might be comparing apples to oranges here but the seats in my 370 are thin and uncomfortable especially on long trips. My touring had power leather seats. How comfortable are the leather seats in the 370?

I thought the seats in the 370z was better? Its just what I heard from other people who went from a 350z to 370z.

sharigan 03-20-2015 09:57 AM

ah man to think the 370z are sipping oil too, I thought Nissan fixed this going from 350z to 370z. I'm planning on getting either a White or Red 2013 or 2014 370z 6 speed with Nav if possible. Already got my eye on that Amuse kit that I would have to sacrifice an arm and a leg for.

Heres my current Z

TerribleONE 03-20-2015 10:04 AM

My touring seats were pretty comfortable.

If you turn VDC off, your car will explode.

What about road noise? Is it really as bad as they say it sound?

Davey 03-20-2015 05:05 PM

Not if you turn the radio up really loud.

Houston Z33 04-02-2015 08:04 AM

370Z is a perfected 350Z with softer suspension.

I too miss the rear wiper, Better behind the seat storage and sunglasses holder.

Davey 04-02-2015 09:39 AM

But the 370Z gives you a glovebox. :)

jpkirk 04-02-2015 12:09 PM

Seriously, how many gloves can you fit in that thing?

Davey 04-02-2015 03:57 PM

You only need two (well, *I* only need two...) but I think it will hold at least a dozen.
