Stop writing on peoples cars!!!!!

So I was at work yesterday and as I was walking towards my car to go to lunch I noticed someone had written "Dirty Car" big bold letters right on the hood of the car taking up a good portion of the surface area. We had snow the other day and salt all over the roads.

First thing I'm thinking this idiot just put bunch of swirl marks right in my clear coat. Mind you this is a brand new 2015 Mazda 6, and the car is also black so even after washing the car I can see swirl marks where they had written on the hood. I know this can be polished out, but I wont do it if I don't have to and plus you only have so much clear coat. I will be driving my Z in the summer due to having all 4 seasons here in Ohio. I had talked to the security person here at the company to see if he can pull up the footage of the parking lot. He told me he's not able to discuss security camera information with me or show me footage, but as I was leaving he said he will see what he can do for me.

I know the person who had done this probably wasn't trying to cause damage, but I still would like to know who so I can confront them to not do it again.

Not sure if anyone had experienced something similar and if you have what did you do to resolve the issue?

njobe89 02-19-2015 01:57 PM

dont buy a black car

kenchan 02-19-2015 02:06 PM

buy a dd (aka non-HEK beater type)

jaedub 02-19-2015 02:06 PM

Just keep your car clean then :D

But yes, I can relate to your frustration....People just dont realize what they're causing to the car's clear coat.

kenchan 02-19-2015 02:08 PM

get over it, IT'S JUST A CAR! :ugh2: <= dumbarse mofo's. :mad:

That's :bs: :gtfo2:

OP, do you have evidence of all this? I.e. pictures of the hood when you first found it and pictures of the damage to the paint? If so, tell the security officer that you have all of this and will be filing charges. If you have to, go ahead and file charges. It does not cost you anything but time to file a police report. You can even mention in the report that there should be security footage to corroborate your claim.

Having said all this, I would just hand buff it myself and move on with my life. I don't like to let it affect me when other people try to upset me. Plenty of people do that to me on a daily basis without trying.

I can tell you another thing. That would definitely entice me to wash the car. Asap.

I do actually keep it clean. It was just from the 45min drive to work that morning plus the snow/slush. Took it through the car wash during lunch once dried you can clearing see the marks. :shakes head:

I hate when people do that! people just don't get to leave other's properties alone. i wouldn't touch or lean on someones car. why do others? one of my friends was looking at my last car and commented on how nice it was and then proceeded to rub it with greasy fingers and say "nice car". wtf? and another would lean on it in my garage and have a beer. i need new friends!

I really like the new Mazda 6. If I was in the market for a mid-sized sedan, that would be it. The look didn't translate tot he 3 quite as well.

You probably got more swirls from a car wash than from the finger painting :happydance:

I would do what was said above, file charges and make this a big deal to security. You may be able to get the cost of a detail out of somebody to correct the paint.

The handling is surprisingly sporty like for a mid-size family sedan.

zeeder 02-19-2015 02:33 PM

I feel your pain, some jack@$$ tagged my black Z with white spray paint!

Well it's better than a door ding!

kenchan 02-19-2015 04:01 PM

or a bowling ball sized hail falling on your hood..

RN SHARK 02-19-2015 06:16 PM

Use a random orbital and some M205 polish. Yes you only have a limited amount of clear coat, but you'll be fine. The first thing I do after getting a new car is a paint correction polish. Cars are swirled to hell from the dealership.

TexasChuck 02-19-2015 06:22 PM

Car Wash??

I don't even let the dealership wash my car.

Spooler 02-19-2015 06:51 PM

Yes, this would frustrate me too. I can't stand the leaners either. You know, the person who has to lean all over your car like it is a prop for there sorry butt.

Maybe they did this because you wrote on a forum in big bold letters? :stirthepot:

The hood of the car's one the hardest spots to keep in pristine condition anyway, it gets hot, gets pelted with bugs and on some cars is not the same material as the rest of the body panels. I have learned to be less OCD about the condition of my hood, it's just not good for your health ;)

It's a Mazda, get over it. Why is this mentioned in General Z chat again?

See you should be able to shoot someone for stuff like this. Or at least :horse: until they are no longer a danger to society.

The emoticon is originally based off Picard's facepalm. That's why it reminds you of him

Not if you wash a vehicle correctly. I spent many hours keeping my black cars completely swirl and scratch free. Black looks amazing when cared for correctly. OP I share your frustration. That was just plain ignorant.

This^^^ Although I prefer Menzerna products. SF4000 with a white pad would do the trick.

HEK 02-20-2015 01:50 PM

It happened to me too at work and again a fool trying to be funny, an orbital buffer and patience with Meguire's polishing will do the trick. But if you are not familiar with detailing a good detailer will do it cheap, too bad you're not near by I would do it but would barter (can you cook?)...lol, good luck and don't worry... (black is the best color clean but Gunmetal is an all around color for crappy weather)
