targa top on a 370z?

i searched quite a bit before i posted this, didnt see anything covering this. I have seen it on a few 350s at car shows, was just curious to see if anyone has done this with a 370z on this forum?? i think it would be a sweet mod if it could be done for a reasonable price.

There was 1 one a few years ago, I know there was a thread with details but here are some photos while I find more.

sounds like a huge amount of money to destroy the handling of the car. The torsional rigidity of the car comes from the roof. Simplistically the roof and the floor work together to tie the two ends of the car together and make them work together. Cut the roof out and car will twist itself apart when you apply power or try and corner. Think of a weights on two ends of a thin piece of wood the wood will twist and flex very easy. This is why you have only seen this on show cars as the cars are likely not driveable anymore.

Also I believe the cost was around $10,000 for it to be done and originally they had issues with the roof leaking but I think that got fixed.

I agree with your post, but just for the sake of curiosity: how do they acheive rigidity in the roadster? underbody bracing?

adamantium

and additional bracing. There's a picture in the FSM or something I've seen before that shows the additional pieces.

They attempt to, but they don't. There is a noticeable difference in flex and response between the coupe and roadster.

I wonder since its been a few yrs now if the doors shut still and the top leaks. I can see the car folding in on itself too after awhile.

Targa Top

I like the looks, as far a strength, maybe that's why the Roadster cost $11,000 more.

@jdsto I never even looked at it that way. thank you for explaining man! that yellow one does look cool, but i could see how big of a waste of money it would be, not to mention like you guys said the upkeep would be horrid. just thought it would be fun to see what one looked like! I have been missing the T-Tops of my z32, and was purely curious as to if someone had tried to mimic something of the sort with the Z34!
