Hi all,I was hoping some one could give me some advice plz, I brought a new 370z in October last year,it's got about 5k on the clock and 6th gear is grinding when changing up into 6th, has any one else had this problem, if so what was it,many thanks. David.

KillerBee370 03-31-2011 06:06 PM

Oil temp being the major one.
Rear hatch release being the minor one.

sstevens7 03-31-2011 06:19 PM

Love the car. Like most owners I would say crappy paint. Everything else is just nitpicky crap like clutch rattle after it has time heat up, higher oil temps, road noise, trunk hatch, and others. But like I said, I love my car:happydance:

I bought my '08 Altima coupe three years ago today and its paint remains shiny and perfect. The paint on it is very sturdy, unlike that on my '09 Z.

I would like to get this up to help everyone, including myself, for future purchase.:tiphat:

steering lock and emotional hack.

Every so often a plastic under body piece falls off on the highway for the nismo model, its a feature.

You don't need to remove that piece for oil changes and its push pins. :shakes head:

oh, you should've gotten the base then. :icon17: lots of screws to remove and torque afterwards, but ive not had issues with the thing falling off.

Like I said its a feature.

During the past month I had replaced:

Steering Lock Mechanism (paid by me)
Fuel Sending Unit
Clutch Mechanism Unit
Rear Hatch Springs (TSB)

Other cars might had:

Oil Cosumption issues (TSB)
Paint issues
Transmission issues
ECU noise

I'd consider trading if I had that many issues with my Z.

GunMetal40thZ 06-20-2012 04:03 PM

I fixed my rear hatch issue by adjusting the rubber bumpers.

Paint Issues - Covered under warranty - Talk to dealership

Paint an obvious issue for most all of us, especially for those with a color other then white. When the paint chips, the base/primer coat is white and clearly visible (at least it was on my red 08 350z).

I recently purchased a 12 Pearl White Nismo and addressed a couple minor paint issues immediately that I brought to the dealerships attention.
1. Small paint chip on the passenger side doorsil (minor but noticeable)
2. Small scratch on the rear spoiler
3. 2 scratches on the rear passenger wheel
4. Paint peal (very minimal) where the rear fender meshed with the quarter panel.

The dealership is repairing the top three items at their expense and re-painting the bumper (blending) under warranty. The Nissan team at the dealership has been great so far at addressing these issues; as they should be. Afterall this is a brand new car.

For those of you asking yourself, why would you buy a car with these defects, here is you go. The top 3 items are very minor, likely not even noticeable to anyone outside of an enthusiast. The last item, was not visible when I drove car off the lot. I am certainely not crazy about having a brand new carrepainted, but considering how poor the paint is on this vehicle it may turn out better then factory. However, if not satisfied with the work they will be putting the car back on their lot.

Bottom line - Communicate your paint issues with your dealership immediately. If they refuse to help, I'm sure the good folks on this forum can pull together and address Nissan.

"thump" from transmission when I brake hard and the 7AT auto downshift from 2nd to 1st (some said 3rd to 2nd).

prochobo 06-21-2012 08:30 AM

Paint/clearcoat sucks. Prepare to have tons of rock chips on your front bumper if you don't have a bra. I've been as gentle as I could during washing/waxing and swirlies still come up. Doesn't help that my car is red either. Get a white one and you can hardly tell.

Also, nobody has mentioned this yet, but keep your brake fluid filled up to max or close too it. Even if you're filled up mid way, accelerating moderately will swoosh it around and your brake light will come on. If it stays on for more than a few seconds, your VDC will turn off.

Wantom 03-03-2013 07:36 PM

Rear diff bushings are soft as tofu.... Solid mounts are too noisy my biggest issue....

chii370 07-10-2013 07:26 PM

paints garbage on my 13 as well, so they havent heard our cries yet but MAN is it pretty! why magma red only had a 1 year run is beyond my comprehension. oil temps seem EXACTLY the same as they were on my 09 that didnt have a cooler on it "until i put one on myself" so....... whatever. only gripe i have is the clutch system, slave cylinder in particular. If your mean to it, you WILL pay the price, nissan forgot this is a sports car...... and didnt make key "sports car reliant" parts good enough to actually take some minor track abuse every now and again. Take the moral high road and say you havent beaten your Z at least once and i will be the first to give you a monkey slap to the face and call you a liar lol. So i foresee most of the FI builds of Z having some transmission issues before anything else, AKA subaru syndrome. except subarus do it stock :inoutroflpuke: I know, i have 2.

Oh and that annoying *** rattle noise taking off from slow speed. which will only be made worse when i put in a lightweight flywheel.

luigi90210 07-10-2013 08:24 PM

aside from oil temp issues, i dont really have any problems with my 370z

its fast, fun and reliable, im not complaining

kfull 07-10-2013 08:53 PM

I can't watch myself drive from outside my car. Maybe if I get those neck rings that those tribal women get to stretch their necks I can get my head far enough outside the car to see it going down the road from a 3rd person pov.

After having this car for two months my neck has been hurting...

chii370 07-11-2013 07:17 AM

Ba dum tish

YzGyz 07-11-2013 10:46 AM

common read about complaints:

1:paint is weak
2:car aftermarket stuff exspensive with less gain compaired to other brand cars
3:rides too rough
4:stupid looking fuel dots
5:everone looks at the car including cops
6:"nice porsche"
7:low car = not like bumps, driveways, potholes, ect.
8:harder to jack/lift to work on car
9:lots of push pins and stuff to take out to work on car
10:small trunk
11:rim's paint also thin
12:steering wheel lock
13:trunk not release on first try

that's all I can think of off my head that I have read about on my car:

1: cabin noise is way to loud. I can hear the road just roaring as I drive over it.
2: It's a long hike walking into the store cuz I park was far away form others
3: sound system suck (partly to blame to road noise, low volume = sound decent, loud to overcome road noise = sh*t)
4: little trunk space
5: trunk not open on first try

Personally, I only have a few nit picks

doliv1 11-05-2013 10:00 PM

i have a soft top problem with my 2010 i hear a funny sound when i hit any rough spot on the road an when someone is riding with me on the right rear(chearp) oh yeah a funny sound when i turn the eng off

swwnz 11-09-2013 08:55 PM

Yes totally agree with this comment, they are chalk and cheese, the 370 z is a more sorted car with better finish and a big improvement over the 350z,mind you so it should be,that's the name of the car game!

eastexZ 11-09-2013 09:22 PM

Love my Z, hate the road noise... I plan on installing dynamat or something.

SunsetZ 11-09-2013 09:51 PM

Don't you think some of the paint complaints are due to the fact that being a low sports car, it is much more vulnerable to rocks and debris when compared to the higher front end of the cars you are comparing it too?

nmjaxx9 11-10-2013 04:29 PM

the only problems I see are other people having problems with me driving my Z. But thats your not really my problem.:rofl2: im just drivin, Other then that the experience with the Z is bangin! :driving:

Update to 1.5 Year Post

I wrote the above post after owning my 2009 Z 1.5 years and 5,000 miles. I'm now at 4 years and 12,500 miles. The problems I've encountered are relatively minor and as follows:
1) Thin paint resolved with ClearBra from day one of ownership. Bought the brand new and perfect. She's still perfect and looks showroom new.
2) Steering lock module. The unit never failed on me and was nevertheless replaced preemptively under recall.
3) Inaccurate ambient temperature module-replaced under warranty.
4) Horrific cabin noise-resolved by replacing crappy stock tires with Continentals
5) Sticky back hatch-new springs installed under warranty.
Aside from those relatively minor items, common to the new model in 2009, the car has been fine. I don't track her, so the oil temp has been within normal range in normal daily driving.
Had I to do it all over again, I would, especially as I bought the car at the end of the 2009 model year, cash and no trade, at a price below dealer cost. He was glad to move the car and I was glad to buy at that price, so everyone's happy. I expect to keep the car 10 more years for a full 100,000 miles.

Mandingo 11-10-2013 06:08 PM

I must be in the minority, but I really haven't had any problems with road noise or paint.

Steering lock is my only gripe

kfull 11-10-2013 07:04 PM

I solved the cabin noise problem by getting a non resonated FI exhaust:happydance:

Riptide67 11-10-2013 07:19 PM

My only issue was with the push button start. Had the steering lock replaced under warranty but that was not the issue.

Turned out to be the clutch pedal sensor. Coming from the 350, road noise is minimal in the 370.

I guess another issue I have with my 370 is that it came with "the mod bug". It kicked in about one month after I purchased it.
