id give a shiney nickle to anyone who can find reverse on my e30. It only lets me do it. BMWs are not meant to go backwards.

How is it the dealer's fault if you can't work a stick shift? Are they supposed to show you how to unscrew the tire valve stem caps too?

The 370z was the first car I ever owned where you had to push down to go in reverse. All my previous cars where made before automakers lost faith in mankind.

I think in the Porsche Boxter you have to push the knob down, close your eyes, and click your heels three times.
|
it's the direction opposite of what your facing, lol. i had the same prob when i went and test drove the z, i looked at the salesmen and just shook my head. you'll get the hang of it, trial and error. hang in there

I kid. Actually, I posted pictures of that house somewhere here when it went on sale. Pretty nice place if you don't mind anyone being able to see you. Place had a lot of glass. |

My salesman failed to explain which of the three pedals operated the brakes, so I wrote a very nasty letter to the GM of the dealership, as well a 1-star rating on Yelp. Needless to say, I had a very difficult time leaving the lot with my new car. |

Why don't you stop being rude in every single thread you walk in. No one is impressed. |

I already knew but my dealer did tell me about having to push down to go in reverse.
I learned the hard way years ago back in high school auto shop class. We had a VW as a shop car and it was out in the lot and i went to go drive it in the shop. Well i didnt know at the time that you had to push down to go over in reverse so i had put it in drive. So im looking back over my shoulder expecting the car to go backwards, gave it gas and hit the wall that was like 1ft in front of me. Didnt leave any marks and no one saw me do it so i just pretended it never happened. Went inside and asked the teacher if there was a trick to getting it in reverse and he was like "Oh yea, you gotta push it down and then over" |

When I test drove one, they didn't tell me either, however I figured it out in 3 seconds. I helped that my first job out of high school was working on cars. I believe it was volvo that had a button type deal under the shift knob that you had to pull up on in order to go into reverse. And the shifter on my '69 Camaro had a red lever that you had to push to go from neutral into reverse. B&M Pro Stick.
I personally really love that function because in spirited driving I've found myself going into reverse on my SVT focus trying to go into first (left and up just like first but a little resistance to go into) around a sharp corner. Luckily I've always stopped myself from ripping it apart because I realized what I had done. |
