Same battle occurred when the switch from 2012 to 2013 front facia happened. You can choose to get but burned or enjoy the humor.

Cool. It makes sense now.

Yes I have.

In a car, from enough distance? No. I can't tell.

Also from the pictures, the middle car looks longer than the top and bottom. I know that isn't the case because it's cropped... but it does if I took them literally and never saw a Z before, just using those three pictures.

Sorry you feel that way. Won't bother me if you set your account to ignore my posts. I promise I won't say anything nasty about you. Seriously. I'm not that kind of person.

Looked up the dimensions of each Z.

2014 NISMO is a whooping 3 inches longer than the 2015... most of it in the front lip.

Yea, yea... insert cliche phallus joke somewhere.

Waiz 12-09-2014 08:37 PM

Wow 3 inches is significant, what about the rear bumper?

14 NISMO to 15 NISMO appears to be the same length for rear bumper.

I still believe the main body of the car is the same length for all 370Z's. That is to say parts like the fender, door, and quarter panel.

Yeah, sucks they created more drag for the 2015 Nismo. (Note: The older Nismo has .29 drag which was the same as the coupe sport, but with the high wing generated more downforce keeping drag equal & more downforce is a win/win. The new Nismo lost downforce with the changed wing and generates more drag.)

Question is, does the changed gear ratio make up for it?

Since were on the topic of 2015 flaws: those "red lips" on the front bumper are position oh-so perfectly as road rock magnets. Unless you baby the hell outta your car and avoid the Interstate (who does that with a sports car), it's going to get pitted and scared. Because it's a shiny red color, those marks show up so awesome in bright light. I suppose it's a plus that they're plastic prepainted clip-on, but if you're OCD about car damage you might wanna stockpile a few in storage.

***EDIT***
The reason why scars show up so easy on them, is because the red paint is only a "micro-millimeter" thick over a gray plastic. When that paint is nicked off, the dull plastic underneath shows so well. It probably wouldn't be so bad if Nissan used a red plastic under the paint... but for whatever reason it's not.

***EDIT 2***
It was relayed to me that the aforementioned parts are colored Nissan AG2 (Aztec Red?) for anyone using the touch up option. See EDIT 4 below.

***EDIT 3***
I ordered some AG2 to compare with the "red lips" of the 2015 Nismo. While the red color matches, there's this "metallic" sheen to the paint that is not in AG2. Doing some personal research I've discovered a color called "Sparkle Red" by Dupli-Color. Supposedly Nissan calls this color "A15" in their inventory code... but I can't find anything like that from Nissan. I've ordered a sample of Sparkle Red from Dupli-Color to do some on-hands investigation... or possibly mixing a bit with "AG2" to see if it works. Will report findings ASAP.

***EDIT 4***
Experiment complete. Sparkle Red (A15) is the correct touch up. Has the metallic part to the color. Matches exactly.

Not only that, but the new Nismo went up in weight (3416lbs), even with the new gear ratio, it doesn't look like it has increased its 0-60mph or 1/4 time compared to previous model years. 2015 Nissan 370Z Nismo First Test - Motor Trend

And no serial number? 09-14 Nismo FTW

Didn't realize you had the car already

Any plans for a build thread? Would like to see how the car treats you over time and observations like the lip paint chipping off would be great to know.

Unfortunately Z's are very prone to rock chips, much more than other cars :shakes head:

^^Right on, I have not done a test drive in one but they look better in person and the seats are better ours...still not enough for me to want to "up grade!"

Driftomodachi 12-12-2014 10:04 PM

I still like the 2009 original non-Nismo body. The early NISMO looks too long and the new looks too busy. I like the 2015 nismo interior and rear spoiler though

The reason the old, and new nismo have a .30 drag co. is because the body kit is creating downforce. This is designed into the car. You trade downforce (stability) for a slight increase in drag. The Sport package is slippery and has a .29 but isn't generating much downforce. Same story with the Nismo GTR. The base creates slight LIFT which gives it the .30, the sport makes the aero 'neutral', which reduces it to .29, then the Nismo adds downforce in the front and back, pushing it back to .30.

EDIT - I was always under the impression that the old Nismo has the .30, i never heard it being .29.

ajperretta 12-14-2014 11:02 PM

Looks like someone bought a cheap front bumper and ugly rims, then put them on a sport model.

Hotrodz 12-15-2014 02:01 PM

^ I thought that at first as well, but the car looks pretty hot in person. I just prefer the 09 through 14...different strokes for different folks. My wife loves GTRs most women and many guys think they are ugly! Yeah, possible next car, but definitely keeping the Nismo!!!

Zbrah 12-15-2014 02:05 PM

Those wheels, what were they thinking? :icon14:

/Angelo350Z/ 12-15-2014 04:39 PM

Wow, I'm surprised a lot of Z owners hate the new Nismo's exterior. Yes it's different, but I actually like--even the wheels. I still wouldn't buy it because of the lack of improvement in performance though. If the car had an extra 30 hp, I'd really consider trading my '13 for one.

Whoever did that spent waaaaay too much. I just used plastidip

carlitos_370z 12-16-2014 12:50 PM

i like the front bumper.... i still preferred the 09-14 Nismo front bumper... but the new one dont look bad at all... just looks different.... but i agree with something... the wheels looks the same as the 2013+ base model but in 19" and damn... why they change the Nismo wing.... for me the 09-14 Nismo wing looks +1,000,000 better than the new one... i some photo shops i see the new Nismo with the old Nismo wing and looks really good!

Houston Z33 12-18-2014 04:46 AM

Down the line, I do see myself slapping the '15+ Nismo body kit on my 40th Anniversary.

Please note this is an experiment for "touch up" purposes when the red lips are damaged by road chips. The lips are supposed to be OEM prepainted when ordered from Nissan. You don't have to order paint for them, if that red is the color you want.

I have been a Z fan since birth. I've had a 1990 300ZX and 2003 350Z. I have to admit, for me, it was love at first sight for the 2015 Nismo. I actually never liked the previous Nismo Z's because of the front bumper and the large rear wing.

JC-Nismo 12-22-2014 08:50 AM

If the 2015 Nismo was actually introduced as the new new sport model or 40th then all cheers because that's what it looks like, but for a Nismo it needs more. I like it, but wouldn't get out of my Nismo for it. And I beg to differ for those who think my or others cars look like a base or sport in any way, both are awesome cars, but when you see a Nismo you know it's one, but hey what the hell do I know.

Hopefully, they get it right in 2016 with a redesign. Seems like most of us don't care for this "update" too much. I, personally, loved the 2014 NISMO update. I like being able to distinguish the Nismo from the base model.

I sold my base in anticipation that the 2015 Nismo would be the car for me. I ended up not getting one because i don't feel like it's much more special than the base model. Now I'm waiting to see what 2016 looks like. Give us some extra power please! I love the Z, but it's getting long in the tooth on this model and getting spanked by similar priced camaros. Was a great car in 09... but 6 years later, no improvements is killing this car even more than the bad 2015 exterior update.

I think regardless of those of us who like it or don't like it, we can all agree that the 2015 redesign was polarizing enough to finish off the 370z's run with a big finish. Of all the years it was one of the most discussed and anticipated models with a big media and PR push.

We'll see what happens with the next generation, unless they are revolutionary changes I have no intention of upgrading from my Z33 personally

I am still hooked on the 2014 Nismo. If the redesign isn't impressive, I'd consider getting the 14 model. It should be much cheaper if it's no longer the current model.
