The Nismo Sounds Sick

Well, I have a major rattle in the Nismo. Since it is the same engine as all Z's produced since 09 this goes out to everyone.

Here is a video that captures the sound. Anyone else ever had/heard this sound/problem????

Damn if I can figure out what/where it is coming from. Getting it checked out tomorrow but thought I would ask. :tiphat:

Can't believe you are revving/driving it like that... :shakes head:

I'm not sure what the noise is but I'm very sure I wouldn't even start the car until I got it checked out by someone. Could be as simple as a belt hitting something.

The car is being checked out tomorrow. Understand that what you heard on the video was the very first time it happened so I wanted to document it. It it strange that if the car sits over night or for a few hours - it doesn't happen on start up. Even if it idles for 5 + minutes - no rattle. You have to drive it for a couple of minutes and then it starts to make the rattle noise.

Trust me. Then engine is not going to start again until my mechanic figures out what the deal is. I was just asking the forum if anyone has had anything like this happen to them???? Saying x is good or bad is not answering the question I have asked.

Please respond to this thread only if you have had this issue please.

Thanks in advance. :tiphat:

May help if you can remove the under shroud, have the car on jack stand and check the noise from underneath the car. Good luck

Been there done that.

Again,

Please respond to this thread only if you have had this issue please. Troubleshooting is not what I am asking for. :tiphat:

It sounds to me like its clutch/flywheel related rattling. Try to pinpoint if its coming from that location, this noise sounds familiar, but yours is way louder than normal. Could be the dual mass flywheel issue of some kind?

I had a friend that's Honda made that same sound. Check the heat sheilding around the exhaust. She had a rock stuck in her's, but they do come loose from time to time. I'm also guessing that that sound is only coming from the drivers side?

Turns out the “rattle” in the Nismo (sounds like a marble going around inside of a washing machine) are parts that have broken off inside the catalytic converter. The good news here is it is covered by an 8 year 80,000 mile Federal warranty. :happydance: Talked to a friend who has a 370z and he had one replaced about 6 months ago. Not sure if this is happening to a lot of you but please do beware.

Cheers.

Interesting. I am surprised it didnt get worse as RPM's increased. Glad it is nothing serious.

:rofl2: I wish I could get away with that but it won't pass inspection.
