Clutch Issues on Nismo

I know the clutch issue has been brought up before with the 370Z. I have a 2012 370Z Nismo with almost 8,400 miles. I bought the car brand new mid April of 2012. I have never tracked/raced the car, but sometimes did spirited driving. I'm still under warranty with the car until mid April of 2014. This is not my first manual transmission car either. Oh this is not my daily driver either.

I was in San Antonio this past weekend and I went to down shift and my clutch was stuck to the floor board, and this happened twice before arriving to the hotel. The first time I had to pull the clutch up with my left hand and the second time I lifted the clutch with my left foot. The same clutch issue happened again on my way back to Houston from San Antonio this afternoon.

I know the dealership can swamp out the clutch for a new one. Do you think if the dealership was to swamp out the clutch that they would also swamp out the actually transmission if I was to make a big stink about the clutch? I'm not sure if there is air in the clutch line or not enough fluid either, but I would not know about either one of these until the car is at the dealership.

Since the 370Z is known for having clutch issues I essentially have two choices. The first choice is to have the dealership replace the clutch with a new clutch, but probably have the same issue sometime in the near future with the new clutch. The second choice is to go with an aftermarket clutch and flywheel.

I would greatly appreciate the advice from you guys on what I should do exactly.

Transmission is out of the question. What will most likely to happen is. First they will bleed the clutch hydraulics, and let you drive it. The next time they might replace the clutch master and slave cylinders. The only way they would replace the clutch disc and pressure plate is if there is fluid on them from the slave cylinder. Or you pay for one.

I appreciate it. It's always nice to think big, but I seriously doubt I would get a new transmissions. Is slave cylinders & clutch slave the same thing?

Slave cylinder and CSC. Samething.

I have heard both interchangeable & thanks for clarifying.

The stock CSC's are pretty much plastic, and known to failure but once that happens you're usually getting a towed home, at least that's all I've read. You can also get under your car open the inspection plate on the trans, and see if you have any oil in there from the CSC, and that would be a good indication of CSC starting to fail. This is just stuff I've read, so take it second hand.

What the problem might be, and this is what I ran into. I boiled my clutch fluid, and it did the same thing your talking about. I think it's cause the clutch line runs pretty close to the cat on the driver side. I had the clutch system flushed out really well, and had zero issues after that for the next month, then I swapped everything out cause I had jumped the gun thinking my CSC was toast, and ordered everything under the sun for the trans from ZSpeed Performance Oh yeah, and Nissan doesn't cover the CSC in their drivetrain warranty.

More than a few people have had it covered under warranty.

Four of the Nissan dealships here all refused, and each said that the CSC is not covered under the draintrain warranty, and of course neither is the clutch. This happened in August, my Nismo is a 09, and at the time had 19K miles on when it happen, and no longer has the bump to bump coverage.

Call Nissan corporate. People have had that repair covered.

It seems to be hit and miss, but there is a precedent for it being covered under warranty.

A friend of mine that manages a Nissan parts department on the other side of Oregon, told me the same thing, and me gave me the same advice, but by that time I said screw it, and had ordered the parts, and didn't pursue it anything further. Then after all that I decided to try flushing and changing the clutch fluid, which fixed the problem, and that's where it was decided by the technicians that the clutch fluid which had a little over 9000 miles on it had boiled, and that the CSC, and the master were fine.

I'm not saying that's this is the fix for MacLean, but it really sounds like the same issue I had.

I have heard that some people have had their CSC covered under warranty, but as stated earlier it all boils down to the dealership. Another thing is that the individuals had the option to have the dealership replace the CSC, or they could go with an aftermarket CSC & clutch and the dealership would install at no additional cost. If the individual went with aftermarket clutch or CSC, the individual would have to pay for it out of their own pocket. If the dealership is going to drop the tranny, then why not go ahead and replace the clutch with an aftermarket one. The main key is if you are going to replace the clutch is that you have the funds to do so.

my situation was interesting when getting my CSC covered under warranty. they told me if my clutch looked toasted when they opened the tranny i would pay outa pocket for everything.

mine looked great at 24k miles (baby the car) so everything was fixed under warranty.

I scheduled an appointment with the dealership for them to look at my clutch, but decided to cancel the damn thing. The reason why I went ahead and canceled the appointment is because I’m having a shop install my F. I. Resonated High Flow Cats, ZSpeed HD CSC, and JWT HD Clutch & Flywheel Combo.

For the shop to install all three items it is only going to cost me $425 for install. I was originally going to have the shop install the HFC’s and that was going to be $200, so they are cutting me a pretty good deal since I decided to get the ZSpeed HD CSC and JWT HD Clutch & Flywheel Combo.

Another factor for going with ZSpeed HD CSC and JWT HD Clutch & Flywheel Combo is because I didn’t want to have any issues down the road and be stranded somewhere because of the stupid EFFEN plastic CSC going out.

^You should replace the clutch master cyclinder as well. Zspeed recommends you do that when you install the upgraded Csc.
