cleaning up rear hatch wires
 

So I'm wanting to clean up any unnecessary wires that the Nismo does not use in the rear hatch compartment. Do any of you guys know for sure what wires go to what, and if any can be eliminated?

I know the custom ground wire running from the battery over the cross-member can be moved to the other side closer to my battery. Anything else I can ditch?

I just wanna know why??? I'm guessing you race and are trying to cut weight but if you took all those wires out you wouldn't save a pound.

You could just start hacking out one at a time and when something important quits working solder it back together;)

well, here's a tip. don't cut the white wire harness looking thing that looks like it doesn't go to anything....I just did and lost the ability to open the hatch from outside...luckily I know how to rewire...it was a PAIN!

OP, why?

mwhit02 do you plan on driving around like that whether it be track or street use? I personally like the look and feel of being gutted not to mention I like the noise as well (exhaust/road). Just adds to the race car/inspired feel to it. As far as the additional wire removal not saving any weight I hear that. But removing all that other stuff in the hatch I’m sure some weight is being saved. Does anybody know of a universal spare tire screw holder that will work with the spare and the screw hole to keep the spare secure in the hatch instead of having it move around freely like other vehicles come equipped with?

im confused here, dont we already have one? i know my spare is screwed down with that large weird looking bolt.

I've heard removing the spare isn't good for rear traction, the car is already light in the rear.

I'm going to have to check again. If so even better.

True but if you have the Stillen CBE it actually weights more than stock and all the added weight is added to the muffler area that is stationed right where the spare would be. That’s one of the perks of that CBE system.

This is why i went with Fast Intentions.. Their hand made CBE's are very light and sound amazing.

I don't track the car, well, maybe a little 1/4 mile here and there...but I could really tell a difference when I removed the rear interior hatch pieces. Plus I didn't think it looked half bad, but then I had these wires everywhere that was kinda killing the clean look of the gutted hatch. So I fooled around, cut and moved some wires and installed some LED lights:

At some point, I will remove that white caulking and have my paint shop re-spray the hatch area a uniform white color

I’m actually not. Per Stillen that is a true fact. It’s to help the *** of the car stay planted around turns or what not. If you have ever seen that CBE live you would know what I’m talking about.

I have been thinking about removing everything from my hatch and then covering the metal with sound proofing and then covering that with interior grade vinyl. That would cut the road noise but really open up the hatch area.

You swear like its hella weight pal.

I did this... Originally to go to the shooting range, then I got lazy and never put the crap back... Then I decided I was going deaf, then I added sound deadening...
The original plastic pieces quiet down the car almost, if not more than sound deadening.
Also, there are a lot of screws sticking out and the spare wheel thing sticking out, it's a BITCH to productively pack your trunk without the plastics in there
