Bose Speaker Placement?

The Bose system on a Nismo should come with eight speakers according to the Nissan web site. I can see two in the doors, two in the dash, and two behind the seats, but when I pull up the trunk floor board I only see one black sub woofer unit. Where is the other one? Are there two inside that black disc?

So a search in the audio section also read this

You can not just replace bose speakers without doing some other work first.

I've seen eight speakers specified but the 2009 FSM only shows seven (2 dash, 2 door, 2 rear, 1 sub) and I have seen no mention of the eighth speaker by those who have worked on or modded their systems. I vaguely remember someone saying the 8th driver was a small sub under the dash but have seen no confirmation of that and it isn't shown in the 2009 FSM.

The way I understood it was the sub in the spare tire is actually two smaller woofers.

On page AV-78 of the 2009 FSM, the sub connector is shown with only a Sound Signal Woofer + and Sound Signal Woofer - (plus shield). No L or R. There may be two drivers in there (push/pull?) but it's just one speaker.

Ok. I was under the impression there were two 4" woofers inside the black plastic housing.

I think we are saying pretty much the same thing, it's just a difference in how we define "speaker." I say it's two bass drivers in one speaker.

Fair enough, but the marketing department at Nissan calls it two speakers. ;)

Of course, they also call the Bose setup a good sound system, so everything they say should be taken with a large grain of salt.

Lies, damned lies, and advertising. ;)

(apologies to Mr. Clemens)

I did some searching around. The black Bose disk in the trunk is misleading. Apparently if you open it up you will see two separate sub woofers inside next to each other facing the same direction (up) and a small amp across from them... weird.
