Dealer wants $1200 for clear bra!
I wonder if I'll get dinner before they bend me over.
I'll be looking elsewhere, needless to say. Meanwhile, my front will continue to chip. Ugh! |
Plasti-dip
Try better the plastidip. They come in various colors. Its rubber not paint. search youtube about it. costs about $20/can but need to apply 3 to 4 coats.
I am thinking to install it on my white nismo to protect the front bumper with a white plasti-dip color. Will post pictures if I decide to do it. |

Plasti dip makes their own clear coat as well.

I would shop around for a place that installs clear bras. The dealer by my house wants $300 installed using 3M
|
My dealership wanted $650 for the front bumper, half hood, and quarter panels. Move on and look for a better deal.

Let me correct my post it's 300 for the front bumper only, hood and fenders is another 350.

Op, can you confirm the below?
-what areas are the clear bra covering? -is it covering the entire hood/nose/etc -is it custom type job where the bra wraps around the edges or the type that's precut and will show the clear bra edges when looked $1200 could turn out to be a good deal or a bust pending some detail. But given that it's a dealership, it's probably like the others have described. And seems like 650 is kinda the standard dealership price for the precut ones...I also remember seeing that when I test drove a z in the dealership. |
Yeah that's the only thing I don't like about mine is the fact that it's pre-cut. I actually may take it off the hood and quarter panels and redo it myself with some new clear bra and wrap the edges. The only thing I wouldn't be able to do would be the front bumper.

The OP has a Nismo so all the quotes from non Nismo owners are always going to be less. The Nismo front bumper is one of the hardest to do and uses more film than 95% of other cars on the road. $1200 isn't a bad price if there doing the bumper, full hood, full fenders and mirrors. But if they are just doing the partial hood and fenders look elsewhere. And remember that the clear bra will never be put on perfect, it's nearly impossible to not have some imperfection.
My full hood, bumper and headlights cost $1100. But I went with the Xpel film and not the venture shield. Xpel is a cool product that you should look into. It does cost more but it has a kind of self healing thing going on. |
Found a place that did mine (half hood, front bumper, side bumpers, mirror caps, & rocker panels) for $650. They are redoing the front bumper next week though...it's pretty difficult to wrap.

clear bra
I bought my clear bra from this website called clear defender for about 300$ and it is the same 3M scotchguard material they sell at the dealers it covered the front bumper, hood, mirrors, and fenders. I installed it myself and can say it came it out pretty good. It does take a bit of time and patience because of the curvature of the front bumper and like someone else posted the clear bras when installed will have some minor imperfections which are not really noticeable. I just followed the videos they provided on the website. Before I applied the bra I fixed the existing chips on the bumper and hood with DR colorchip which worked really well. I am very happy with my clear bra and the protection it provides for my nismo. I also want to mention that this was the first clear bra I have ever put on and I am glad i don't have to worry about rock chips ruining my bumper anymore.

Do not buy clear bra through a dealer!!!
When I purchased my Z, I knew I wanted to have it clearbra'd asap living in AZ, rocks are everywhere. I happened to mention it to the dealer, and they said yup, we do that. So I asked to have them do it prior to me taking the car home so it would be brand new. No problem, what did I want done? I asked for: FULL Front bumper FULL Hood FULL Fenders FULL Mirrors That it not be "visible", I don't want to see the bra. No problem they said, $1k. I had this added to my loan to be financed as after putting $3k down I didn't have another $1k to drop. Again, no problem. Fast forward to the next afternoon, they call me to come pick it up that it was done. Show up, what is done: PARTIAL Front bumper - Doesn't go over the edges, and doesn't cover the fangs PARTIAL Hood - Only the first 1/3 of the hood, doesn't go over the edges PARTIAL Fenders - Only covers to the end of the headlights, then stops, doesn't cover the edges PARTIAL Mirrors - Only covers half the mirrors and doesn't go to the edges And you can BLATANTLY see the edges. Which is even worse considering my car is black. I looked at it and ad the dealer, and he's like What'dya think?!! I said :wtf: is this?! It doesn't cover the whole front end and you can see EVERYTHING!! On top of that, after a closer look, there is actually debris trapped underneath the bra! Which means they didn't even clean the car off before applying it. To say the least I was     They said, this is what we do? We have a shop near by that does it for us at a "good rate". I showed them the "we owe" slip saying Full front end clear bra, $1k. They said then whoever did that didn't do it right because they only do this front 1/3 because it's cut from a printer off of a template of the car. So I asked, then I want it removed and I'll have it done at a REAL CB shop. They said it's highly recommended NOT to remove clearbra once applied as it will take off the clearcoat and possibly the paint as well. To which would triple the cost to redo. So not only do I have an inferior product that covers 1/3 of the area I wanted, I checked later at other shops for pricing of what I wanted done, and it would have been in the area of $600. :shakes head: Moral of the Story: Don't do CB through a dealer, go to an actual Clear Bra Installer. If you don't know of any around you, Google it, or talk to window tinting shops as the process is very similar and they should know some contacts. |
There is no way any installer can properly install the bra around all corners. It has to have rounded corners and fold over the edges.

> Complete Hood > Front Bumper > Front Fenders > Rocker Panels > 'A' Pillars > Mirrors > Rear Quarters > Headlights > Area Behind Rear Wheels The local guy came to the house on a Saturday and it took him about 8 hours to complete. I didn't want any seams showing, so all of the areas covered ended where there was a seam or end of panel. This guy was a real artist as you can not tell where the bra starts or finishes. He quoted me another $1100 to do the rest of the car, but I have not decided whether or not to get it done. |
I work here at Porsche, we clear film almost all of our cars at the customers request. We do full hood (one piece), full bumper, full fenders, mirrors, door handles and spot by the rear tires. We charge 1400 installed and it is dam good.
The person who told you cant remove it is full of it. You can pull it hard and just remove it yourself. The paint and clearcoat will be fine. You will most likely be left with some glue on the paint which will need to be cleaned up, just a little bit of elbow grease.. If you want to remove it, heating it with a hairdryer or heatgun, taking care not to overheat it helps a lot.. |

:ugh2: I'm also worried about having a 2 tone hood after removing it from the different UV wearing on the paint after 3 years and 2 of them in Phoenix sun. |
i just payed $860 for full tint, and the Xpel paint protectant film. The Xpel covered the entire front bumper, front chin, 12-16" of the hood, and the fronts of the side mirrors, along with the A-pillars on each side of the windshield.
|
Wow. Are you sure you got Xpel? I mean how would someone really know. That's way cheap. How does it look? Any pics?

lol i just bought full front bumper, fenders, mirrors, and full hood 3m precut kits from clearbra-kits.com and it ran me 280 bucks. put that **** on yourself. its NOT hard. if you have ever tinted windows, and know how to BE PATIENT AND TAKE YOUR TIME its easy as ****. its just like that xzilon **** at the dealer. my neigbor is a detailer, he GAVE me one of those kits they sell to customers for like 890$ and it took me like.... maybe an hour to put it on the car. looks fantastic, and there is no reason on earth for it to cost that much.
even if you put the bra on as slow and perfect as physically possible, it would still only take you a couple hours to do. dont let the dealership do ANYTHING for you. its their job to be scam artists. |
I had the dealer (apparently highly recommended on this forum) do mine. Price was ok. I would have done it locally, but I was flying in to get the car and didn't want a bunch of rock chips on the drive home. The job was done well enough, apart from several crappy seams and a couple spots where it's obvious they half-assed the cleaning pre-application. The issue was they installed the front plate against my specific instructions and now I have two holes in the bumper and two spots where the clear bra is messed up. To make matters worse, they sent me home with the "we owe" ticket, but told me they would not honor it when I called two months later due to some sort of "management change". F those guys. The tint they installed is peeling off the corner of the passenger window, and the "lifetime" warranty Steve the sales guy was so proud of was void the moment I left the state. Other than that, I'm glad the clear bra was done, as it's saved me from some nasty chips, but I would recommend having a GOOD place handle it.

im going to be installing it myself on saturday. all of it. with proper attention to detail, slow procedural steps. doing each step to the best of your abilities, i without a shadow of a doubt believe that anyone.... ANYONE can install a clear bra and have it turn out fantastic. clean the car properly, learn WTF to do before hand with lots of research and vids, use the proper materials and take your damn time. it takes a squirt bottle with 30% "70-91%" isopropylene alcohol 70% water. and another with 100% water and 4-5 dime drops of johnson/johnson baby wash.
it is applied EXACTLY like window tint. clean the **** out of the area. drench the area AND the bra with the baby bottle, and put it on the car. the soap makes it slide around easy with just the lightest touch. then you line it up where you want and start to apply enough pressure to push water under the film but not enough to stretch the material. and do this in small section, 4-6 inches, them peal it back lightly and spray the alcohol mix between the bra and car and squigee it again the same way. all the alcohol does is eliminate the soap so the bra will stick to the car. make sure its lined up BEFORE you spray the alcohol on it or its a ******* nightmare to get it off, involves heat. other than that, its honestly very straight fwd and easy. a little solution under the bra wont matter "TINY AMOUNTS" but air does. if you cant do this then OMFG dont try to change your oil, this is about that hard "sarcasm implied" |
just put mine on myself. it was a rather humbling experience. nothing i said in my previous post is UNTRUE..... but i do take back that anyone could do this. turns out its pretty god damn hard, took me like 7 hours to do it and it looks nice, but not perfect. there are a couple spots where **** got under the bra. but it does look better than it did before, and now at least its protected from lifes ********. prolly leave it on for about a year or so to justify the effort i put into putting the pain in the *** on there, then rip it off and have a professional do it lol. i now fully understand why it costs 1200+ to have a FULL kit installed...... its a nightmare. do this for a living? no thanks lol
|
I had mine installed for $1450. Front bumper, full hood, full front fenders and rear view mirrors. Film was venture shield. From what I read it was a little pricey but the guy did a pretty good job, you can't really tell there is a clear bra on.
|
also, just for ANYONE curious about this. if your car ALREADY has paint damage and chips, if you do minor touch-up it sort of half *** hides it, but then if you put a clear bra on AFTER that...... you cant see the damage at all until your face is literally 4 inches from the car. it hides the pre existing damage incredibly well, and ive been informed by several professional installers "i consulted prior to doing it myself" and they said as long as you didnt do a half *** job applying the touch-up paint, when the bra is removed it will NOT tear the new paint out of the chips.

Local detail shop quoted me $620 for nose, hood, door edges, mirrors. Pre-cut 3M Scotchguard. 5 year warranty against yellowing or peeling. I was persuaded to go with the Scotchguard by internet reputation, installer recommendation (he also I stalks Ventureshield and Xpel), and videos like this one.

I paid 2200 for almost my whole car to be wrapped
1200 is nothing |
My old installer up north when I lived in the new England he quoted me 5500 for the whole car but he is one of the best installers in the country

Had mine done at Auto Trim Design , partial hood, fenders, and full nose , $750.00, looks excellent. If you are going to drive one of these, you better get it before you put the first tank of fuel in, or you are going to get chips.
|
I was quoted for around $1900 for full front bumper, full hood, full fenders, headlights, and both side mirrors at speedshield USA in Addison, TX. They dont use precut films and they tuck as much as possible to make it as non noticeable as possible. Is this too expensive?
