OIL Question
This may sound like a noob question but id rather be safe than sorry. I changed the oil on my NISMO and the Manual says to put in 4 7/8 qt if I dont change the filter. So I think I put in 2 or 3 Oz too much (over 4 7/8). So it was closer to 5. Am I good? Or should I drain the 3 Oz. Its just a bitch to take that cover off again. haha. Responses are appreciated. Thanks.

Why aren't you changing the filter?
And why don't you just use the dipstick? |
Oh, and why are you taking that cover off???
Nissan takes off the back 4-6 or whatever and just folds the plastic out of the way  |
Dude rule of thumb every time you change the oil make sure you change the filter!! Now what oil did you put in it? And agree why did you take the cover off??

Oh and im In the military and leaving in a month. And I didnt want to just waste the oil I bought and didnt want to ship it seems like too much of a hassle so i put it in my car.

During the break in process your car will probably burn more oil anyways... But I'm sorry, the filter change, especially on SUCH a new car is worth 10 times more than the oil that's in there |

Thanks for your service!!! |

Im going to San Diego. You're welcome. :tiphat: |
You need to invest in a oil filter wrench they are 7.99 at any auto parts store and I think Walmart sells them as we'll, another thing not changing your oil filter when you change your oil is like.... Not wiping you A** after you drop a Duce, just saying. If the oil is not half way up the dip stick you should be good the car will burn it off. And thanks for serving!

Next time use a screwdriver to stab the filter! Lol
Where are you moving FROM? (And I assume you're going to Camp Pendleton) Have fun there, enjoy the boob shaped nuclear reactors! (You'll see, LOL) |

And as far as the filter equipment. I have the little plastic cup one that is fit for this filter size. It just wont grip ive tried putting stuff into the cup to create more grip it just wont. And also I have the wrench type filter remover but its the one with the dumb rubber strap that you put on there and torque. I dented the filter on my 2011 before. But is there a certain type you guys use? Cuz I noticed the filter is in the same place as a regular Z but it has more **** around it. And You are very welcome sir!:tiphat: |

I use the one from harbor freight ($5) that connects to a 3/8" drive socket wrench. It sometimes doesn't catch, but if it doesn't, you'll just have to hold the 3 teeth a bit... |

They sell a oil filter wrench with a chain on it that's the best one to get, it looks like a bicycle chain. And yes just think of all of those little metal shavings that are stuck in the oil filter from the brake in of the motor.

When you come stateside, or if you have the time or tools or whatever, you can remove just the filter and lose only like .5 quarts, then keep running on the oil you just put in Quote:

Go by the dipstick. Every engine holds a slightly different amount of oil. What you see in the manuals is a close estimate. I'll hold back on the last 1/2 quart when refilling and top off as the dipstick dictates.
If you're just a little bit over (~1/8" or less), it shouldn't be a big deal. If you can, I'd drain down to the full mark, but don't jump through hoops to do it. As for whether or not you should have changed the filter: I would have, if for no other reason that force of habit, but, with only 1000 miles on it, you should be OK. The oil gets dirtier during the break-in period, but modern engines aren't as bad about it as older engines. Once again I would go ahead and put a new filter on (at this point, you'll end up having to change the oil again), but you should be alright if you do you next oil/filter change a little early. All that said, why risk it? Do another oil change, change the filter, and refill to the proper level. |

Also for a new filter go with a K&N it has a hex head so you can take it off super easily with a Socket wrench. As everyone said change your filter, you probably wont have an easy time taking off the filter and not losing a ton of oil... If i were you i would re-do the whole job and take the filter and drain plug off first. Then put the new filter and plug back in and THEN fill up. Nissan calls for 5 1/8 quarts as well for your first oil change FYI so if you say you put in 5 quarts your FINE... |
FIrst filter change is always fun Nissan a has huge Gorilla tighten that bitch on there :ugh2:
|
just for reference, when i change my oil i let everything drain out on a level surface for a good 30 min while i take a break. then i just add an entire 5 qt jug of mobil1. drive the car a day then check the oil on the stick and its usually right smack dab in the middle. this is wrong its about 70% full on the dip stick. i miss typed yesterday :P
side note... i pour in another 1/2 to 1 full quart at about 2500 miles and ride that till 4k then i change. |

And if you're burning up to a quart at 2500 miles... You need to get that checked out |

maybe your not draining as much as i am..... i let that puppy sit level, at an angle and flat on the ground. im not saying i get it ALL out but d@mn near all of it. that being said after i fill with 5qts. i get the oil level to about 70% full on the dip stick. not sure why i wrote half. its higher than that..... my bad:confused: anyways, im also not burning all that much. when i say i pour in half a bottle to a bottle its just to top it back off close to the H level on the stick. trust me im watching how much im burning....:icon14: |
