Questions for NISMO owners
I was so close to get a 13' Gun Metallic 370z touring+sport, and my mind was absolutely set on it.
but after seeing a Nismo up close in person at the local dealership, I am just stirred.. I think i fell in love. (Originally, I absolutely never wanted a cloth interior, but now I am willing to sacrifice..) my questions is, how different are nismo and touring+sport in terms of: road noise, and suspension harshness? I sincerely apologize for this repeated topic, but I need answers from genuine NISMO owners! I have test drove both, but i cannot seem to quantify.. I NEED ENCOURAGEMENT TO GET A NISMO!! |
I have a Nismo, but have never driven a touring+sport. I can tell you the road noise isnt too bad IMHO. The rear suspension is very stiff, but it is also a track car driven on the road so you have to expect that. I knew all this before purchasing, but then again I also knew I was going to track this car (like it supposed to be driven) on a regular basis.
With that said, you really can't go wrong either way. Just ask yourself what you want to use the car for most and let that guide your decision. For example: if you plan on heavy mods, then go with touring+sport. If you want a track car now, then go with Nismo. Either way you can't go wrong! Good luck! |
I've never driven a sport, but I love my Nismo. It's not a camry by all means. If you want a real sports car feel without all the luxury, get the Nismo. I came from a 2005 Altima and wanted something that was mean all around. It's my daily driver, but I only live 3 miles from work. I can tell you when im rolling down the street and come up to a sport/base 370 they give me a thumbs up or just cry and say dam!

I drove both. The Nismo is much stiffer and very noticeable. I honestly dont like leather! Hot in the summer, sometimes you cant sit on it.. Very cold in the winter.. Forget that. The close is freaking nice in the Nismo. You can spill something on it and it just beads up and easily cleans. Just like My FJ, same material as far as i can tell. Water does not absorb in it.
The Nismo body kit is awesome! But again, like DLo said, if you plan on modding the crap out of it, such as, getting a different body kit, intake, exhaust, springs, etc... No reason for a Nismo, only interior, the fact there are less of them out there !!! that is the main reason I got one.. |
Will they let you test drive it? Best thing to do it go for a 10 min spin and feel it yourself.
Ive also never driven a reg Z, my opinion of the nismo is not bad at all. my friend drove it and commented "its actually really smooth and comfortable", because he was expecting it to be a ALMS car. Yes, the car will find deviations in the road surface you didn't know were there before but its not that big of a deal. |
Thank you guys so much for all your inputs. it will be DD, and despite 15 miles to work, I am in Houston, TX (lots of smooth and flat road surfaces).
I remember when I test drove a Nismo, cabin was actually ringing loud. more than the regular 370z. Not too sure if it's because that particular NISMO i drove had a coarser engine or simply due to fatter tires. |
I drove a couple 2013 Z's and a 2011 Nismo before settling on buying a 2013 Nismo. Just my $0.02, but I really liked the feel of the Nismo and I've had my fill of leather interior w/ my RX8.

I have a 40th Z for a year and love her to death. A couple of weeks ago I have decided to test drive a used 2011 Nismo with only 4k miles. When it was over, I fell in love instantly and wished I could bring her home. I even felt sooo bad like you just cheated on your gf. Nismo is different, her body, her bounce, her smell... makes you want to f*ck her... I mean drive her.

Hello fellow Houstonian (well im from Cypress but close enough) I was looking for leather seats too but knowing the weather here in Houston where its summer 9 months out of the year leather was out the window for me. My Nismo is not my DD more like for going out hanging with friends or date night but I love to drive that thing.
I purchased mine last September 7, I test drove a base 370 AT transmission took about 15 minutes but I already had the Nismo reserved for a test drive I just wanted to compare, the base had leather interior because the previous owner had one put in, after test driving the base It was time to test drive the Nismo and WOW the overall performance was noticeable.. after reading your post if you plan on keeping the car stock with minor mods and if you have the extra cash go with the Nismo, just them being limited production for each model year is nice to know. But if you plan on changing a lot of things suspension/motor etc.. etc.. get the touring sport. You should check out this thread when you get a chance! Welcome to the forums! |
There is just something very special about a Nismo.
I was in the same boat, and just fell in love with this car. For one, the car at any speed, in any situation never lets you forget what it is (you're never going to think you're in a Honda). Is there a good amount of road noise? Yes, but IMO - respectable for what the car is. Is the suspension stiff? Yes, but I would never call it harsh like some review sites. It's extremely well planted and controlled - the car (as far as chassis and suspension) is sooooo capable.... The speeds at which it can enter corners are crazy. |
Getting the Nismo up to speed (100+) and the body kit creating the downforce while carving turns is a wonderful feeling. Its addicting. It will slice and dice on twisty stuff and then really carve the sweepers....Getting the feel of the outside wheel grabbing as the LSD hooks up and pushes you through a turn with a bit of wheel spin and tail wag is priceless.

It has been my experience that you never regret going with the best possible option available.
If performance is important to you, get the NISMO. You will not regret it. |
houston driver nismo owner here. yes its loud inside but some extra sound deadening and a good stereo help. plus the wide tires make alot of noise.
i say get it. oh and what part of houston do live in that has smooth roads? hahaha |
Hahaha well in my opinion, except for some ridiculous road reconstruction, pretty straight forward roads.. im on i10 almost 95 percent of the time. I live on barker cypress by the way. Very good to know all the houstonians! Ive only spotted 1 black nismo in last 3 years. Just shows the rarity of this special car

It's a sports car not a luxury car. You will feel every bump lol. I love this car though. Only reason I got a nismo over base was that I loved the bodykit, spoiler and rims. Just a different appearance. Looks gorgeous. Real exotic looking. Now I know you can get all that for cheaper in aftermarket parts but I didn't wanna do that. I wanted to buy a car stock that I could look at and be in love every time without doing any appearance mods to it. This of course isn't going to stop me from doing some suspension exhaust etc mods lol.
|
I live in Houston as well. I have a '12 GM Nismo & it is not my DD. I love it & it is very different looking (sexy & exotic). The Nismo is like being in an airplane b/c it is bumpy & noisey, but it is a sports car. It is worth every penny & will turn heads like no other.

Hey guys I'm not really a Nismo owner but I did have a question on maintaining the 370, does anyone else keep getting little scratches on the center console material or know how to get rid of the minor scratches. They arn't very noticeable but I still want to see about getting them touched up lol didn't know if anyone else was coming into any similar problems since the material is extremely soft. Thanks

I have driven a 4x4 pu for the last 25 or so years as my dd. Kinda have to do that as a game warden...so there is nothing rough, stiff or noisy about it to me.LOL. I have had her for 3 months and it still feels like day 1. Infatuated, yah baby!!!!See ya, gotta check on her.

Soon, my dream will come true by the way one quick question, have you ever scraped your nismo underside on that little hill of your parkingway? |
If you want to check out a few other Nismo cars in Houston check this thread out. Page 1 post #13

I went with the Nismo. Out here, the Nismo wasn't that much more expensive. With the suspension, brakes, body kit, CBE installed...there's not much more I would want to do outside of intake, HFC and aftermarket headunit to get bluetooth.
If you're not planning on reworking the whole car, get a nismo. If you want to heavily mod the car, get a base or base+sport. |
Come to a meet and see a few. When we all get together I think we have more nismos than regular Zs lol. From stock to modded. Weekly meet, every tuesday. http://www.the370z.com/texas/52170-h...ning-meet.html

I dont know what the other models are like but the nismo is mean on the ride. Its definitely a track car, hates bumps, road noise is high, very stiff suspension...but soooo worth it! I love how this car drives. I had a g35 before which was much more luxurious but very similar in ride and handling...
