Wanted: Driving like an old man fuel economy numbers

So I've been spending a considerable amount of time on the forums before I pull the trigger on a new Nismo Z. From everything I've read, this car is incredible! Although I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of a nav/bluetooth option, I believe I can live without the technology.

I'll be using this car pretty much as my daily driver, so I wanted to get a pulse from those who have driven the car a bit more gently (if that's possible). Not that I'm not going to enjoy this on the track or on nice backroads every once in awhile (afterall, this is a fine sports car!), but for my daily driving I don't see any need to punch the pedal just to get to work.

So I'm looking for the top MPG numbers from those who have driven this like you were an old man. Is it reasonable to expect upper 20's in this scenario? I drive 70% highway, and the city is nice long stretches of 40-50mph. From my past experience with other sport coupes, I've always been able to push past the EPA combined numbers by at least 4-5 mpg.

I dont have a Nismo... but just did just do a 250 mile hwy trip up to boston in my base coupe. Didnt break 25mpg so i wouldnt expect the nismo to get over that no matter how you drive it. But actual owners im sure will chime in soon for exact numbers for you

Thefairladyz 08-08-2012 01:31 PM

What was your average speed on that trip?

Volk Z 08-08-2012 01:50 PM

I used to get 31MPG at 75-80MPH in my 350Z... I shaved 350 pounds off and had a more efficienct air intake and aerodynamics were improved to get there...

That being said the car stock is probably going to get around Mid 20s MPG... If you need better gas mileage shave some weight off. Otherwise gas mileage is not going to WOW you by any means.

** My 2013 NISMO will be here end of the month** So i can give you a better idea but i dont think it will be better then what i said previously until i shave some weight off.

I am however installing Status Racing seats and pulling the spare tire/tools out of the trunk to shave around 100 pounds off total so that should give me 1-2 better MPG right away.

doing throttle body bypasses will improve your mileage.im getting around 21.8 all city with syncro rev match off.with it on i average 21.4.i have k&n drop ins and z1 tubes.and my shifting is around 4-5k

bluetooth/bose is standard in the 2013 nismo. no nav though.

as for the driving like a grandpa...if you drive alot of highway you'll probably get 22-23mpg combined. when i drove 350 miles one way (75mph), i got 26mpg. with added city driving it drops quickly

Only mod I have is BERK HFC's and I do pretty much all city driving with a pretty good amount of stop lights and I get about 18MPG city. Mixed driving city/freeway about 20/21 and most freeway 22/23.

Dont have a nismo, but i drive like a grandpa most of the time. 28-30 mpg hwy- 24-26 city

Correction- Bose/Bluetooth is NOT standard on the 2013 Nismo... All the magazines got this wrong...

I have my 2013 Nismo with NO Bose system as well as 2 more at the Local Lexington SC Nissan dealer with No bose system.... The magazines and everything made it sound this way but it is a 1400 option as well as the Backup camera (only 2 big options for the Nismo in 2013)

Cmike2780 08-08-2012 02:58 PM

Not a Nismo, but my Z is a daily driver and I drive 90% highway (with stop and go traffic) about 35 miles to and from work. I average around 22-23mpg total and tend to drive on the slightly spirited side. I'd say I average around 70mph on the highway. I've gotten over 30mpg on only Highway driving so expect about the mid 20's for your situtation. This question is kind of moot though. If you're really concerned about mpg's, there are plenty of economy cars around. Combined mpg's of mid-low 20's is pretty reasonable for a sports car so I really wouldn't worry about it. You'll spend over $70 to fill it up no matter what.

my avg was 75mph the trip... i will also say i broke my car in pretty hard and for some reason no matter how slow or fast i accelerate from1st gear through 3rd my car reads 5 -10 mpg lol

NissanGuy23 08-08-2012 06:10 PM

Driving around town, stop go, stop go, merge act, i can get 15.0 MPG at best.

On the highway, i can get about 27-28 MPG if I'm in full grandpa mode. Maybe 30 at times.

Over the course of ownership, all kinds of driving combines, I'm around 20MPG.

Rusty 08-08-2012 07:02 PM

My last trip with the cruse on. I got 29 mpg at a steady 70 mph. Normal driving around. I get about 18 to 22. Since I put the FI LTH's, CBE, and the G3 cai. I can't keep my foot out of it. 16 to 20.

Thanks - I'm definitely interested on what you are able to get with the Nismo - keep me posted!
