help guys plz

hey guys

someone stole my spare key and am afraid that he want to do the same thing with my car
is there any way that i change anything to be safe ?

XLR8SN 07-06-2012 03:55 PM

Only choice would be to go to the dealer and have the "codes" changed I believe. If you have the 5 digit ID number, you can let them know what your past one was. That might help them a little.

twinturbonet 07-06-2012 04:09 PM

Sorry for asking, but how did your spare key get stolen?

leon 07-06-2012 04:14 PM

i ll try to go to the dealer ...

In the meantime if you have an Osiris reflash you could leave the car on the anti-theft map, people outside of the forums and tuner community have no idea what it is and if he they don't know about the map switching even with the key they won't be able to steal your car

^ not a bad idea.

could it still be taken with the metal key inside after re-coding?

Any thief could hack it I suppose. But the key numbering ID corresponds to the matching receiver I believe. If they change the codes, then the old key technically should no longer work on that car smart key system.

It's like changing the tumbler to a key and lock system. Even if the key is stolen, it shouldn't work on a different tumbler. It's just electronic now versus an actual mechanical key and lock.

Opps didn't really answer the question. Yes you are correct. He probably should change that one lock too. The key would open the door.

Or take it to a trusted garage and do the following

Put a switch on the clutch switch and hide it

Put a switch on the fuel pump and hide it

XLR8SN 07-16-2012 01:23 PM

As someone else mentioned...might want to change out the lock too.

Sorry to hear about your woes....but sometimes the prevention is worth more than the cure.

I am sure that it will work out and that the problems will be worth dealing with. Hang in there.

if it's a pre-2012, i would just unplug the steering lock while it's in the lock position.
