Stillen Intake

I am ready to upgrade my intake. My friend who works for Nissan says that Stillen is the best one out. Is he correct? And, how much do you really have to cut away from the car?

Anyone who has these, I would appreciate your help. Also, do you feel a difference in response? or Pull?

Thank you.

Flaguy 05-21-2012 10:54 AM

No clue if its the best...and to be honest no one else can answer that. Most people order one intake and can only compare the one they ordered to a stock one. Dyno graphs can be....tweaked...and manipulated to a small degree.

I have it on my Nismo, and its a badass intake non-the-less. Honestly i don't feel ANY difference at all but its sounds 100x better under open throttle. The fact that you won't feel a difference isn't suprising though so take that with a grain of salt. Most individual mods you won't feel...but they add up. So when you are ready to sell your car and you put it back to stock...and you replace 6 or 7 parts...it will feel SOO slow. But me personally...the vast majority of minor mods like this are unfelt.

Thank you for being honest.. one last question. Did it effect your gas mileage?

I will order mine today.

Yea...it went down cause it sounds so f*cking good during open throttle lol. All jokes aside though...i haven't noticed a change but would not be surprised one bit if it improves gas mileage a few MPG under normal driving.

But truth is i just haven't monitored it.

Fact is...this WILL improve performance. It WILL sound better. It WILL look better under the hood. It will PROBABLY get better gas mileage. And it WILL be worth the money. But if you are expecting it to get prius level of gas mileage and suddenly have ferrari performance...no. This differences will be negligable. The sound alone makes this mod worth it to ME.

LOL, I understand it wont be huge.. just wouldnt want it to be a huge dump in MPG.

I ordered it through my connection at Nissan who will also install it. Got it for $507. Cant wait to have it installed. Thanks. He also said since its Smog Legal, it wont void warranty... Another plus!

I got to drive my Nismo briefly before the bolt-ons went on and they do make a difference. If you go further than the intake (headers, hi-flow cats etc) you're going to want to get it tuned or your low-end torque will suffer (plus it's bad for your engine).

Don't expect a different "feel" to the car, but you'll see slight gains in acceleration and how the car behaves at high RPMs. Plus as mentioned previously, the sound it makes is much, much nicer - especially at high RPMs.

Rule of thumb from what I've observed in the aftermarket scene:
Fast Intentions > Stillen > Nismo BUT that said, FI costs easily 2x as much as the Stillen equivalent for extremely minimal gain. I went with Stillen. Stillen parts have history, are solid as hell and let's be real, Steve Millen.

*Edit: All of the above are just my opinion and observations. Not trying to start a pissing match here.

I just got my Stillen intake installed. My friend at Nissan had a slow day and let me bring my car in. He finish in about 2 hours 15 min. I can hear a huge difference! Its louder and has a deeper tone! I have not really stepped on it yet, but I cant imagine the HP gain it gives will be all that much. He said around 15-18hp.. He used their computer to dial it in. Anyway... Just thought i would share..

What you talking about Willis? I was told Pirus mpg & at least Ferrari performance on a bad day......:driving: j/k. I'm tossing & turning b/w the Stillen CAI & the Takeda CAI.

OK, done some more work.

When I bought my Nismo it was in Modesto CA, and I live in Bakersfield CA. Its a 3.2 hour drive. I drove 80mph all the way home. I remember the gas mileage average because I was impressed with what it got for a sports car.

From Modesto to Bakersfield it was an average of 23.3 mpg

Now, I just took the car to Long Beach this last friday with the new Stillen Intake.
From Bakersfield to Long Beach driving 80mph, I got 26.3 mpg!

Bakersfield to Long Beach is only 2 hour drive, but I never reached 26 before, not even close! I hope this helps those who are interested. I think that is a huge jump.

How was the install fit, did they have to cut much of the NISMO bumper fascia? (Same question to you "Armhunter")

Nice! I assume you went to the Mundials Dan? Awesome Jiu-Jitsu and improved MPG to boot!

I did the install myself. I'm not sure what you mean by "cut much of the fascia"??? I didn't cut ANY part of the fascia. The only part i had to cut was making the openings bigger for the pipes to exit the engine bay. But i don't consider that the fascia...the fascia is the bumper itself. I didn't touch the bumper.

Oh and i had to cut a bolt in half to prevent it from scraping the drivers side pipe.

....was i supposed to cut something? Lol...it fits fine...though the hood requires more pressure to close now.

If you look in my signature for my build thread. You can see the pictures I took of my install.

You don't cut any of the front fascia. You do however have to cut or remove the black metal plate attached to the aluminum crash bar. By doing this I also relocated the horn.

LOL...... I haven't bought one yet & when I do I know I will LOVE IT & will let you guys now. It is b/w the Stillen G3 & the Takeda CAI. I know as soon as I purchase a CAI I will have to get a tune. I'm probably going to pull the trigger in Aug. or Sept., but in no super rush though. I believe to-do both (CAI & tune) I will be looking at $1-1.2k.

How fast were you going, or what was your avg. speed that you were avg. upper 26mpg? Man

Armhunter 06-11-2012 12:19 PM

I always cruise right around 80mph

MacLean 06-11-2012 09:35 PM

Nice........
