Long drives in a Nismo
So I drive 6.5 hours from DC to WV this weekend in the Nismo. It was comfortable and enjoyable. I stopped three times and had fun across the mountains on rt55 and rt 33. I have an pioneer head unit and dynamatt in the trunk. So it can be an open road car, not just a car for twisty roads. The dynamatt helped as over 80 it was pretty quiet and cruising at 90 or 100 it was rock solid. Anybody else take their Nismo on long drives?

Yep, first time before an oil cooler was installed, I drove from sc to ga and I hit limp mode. Idk I was on back roads 99% of the time so I guess thats why. No real problems other than that. Now I can go sc to tn fine.

8.5hr drive...spinal injury, lol. Very uncomfortable for me.

Rt33 is a fun road. :driving:  Most I've been in mine at one time is 4 hrs taking some back country roads with GF. :happydance:

I took mine from Texas to California last year and it was fine. We drove it as much as 700 miles in a day and did almost 5000 miles in a week and I don't have any complaints. It's one of the few times that being a parts-bin car has it advantages, the A/C kicks ***.

Yes RT 33 from harrisburgh to Elkins is a well kept secret road that has to be one of the best east coast roads. Sweepers, hairpins, elevation changes, slow technical turns with balls out open radius turns. Quite a test of a car and driving skills, make a bad mistake and you might drop off the mountain not to be found for a few days.

May have to check that on eout when I go home on leave............

Drove my Nismo from El Paso to Fresno Ca (1k miles) last X-mas. Non stop, made it in about 15 hours. Wasn't a fun ride. In 2 weeks I'll be driving the Niz from Fresno to Killeen TX (1500 miles).. But I think I'm going to take two full days to do it.

I love my NISMO too much... I was once driving it in my dreams. So maybe 8 hours?

I haven't done any long drives yet, but I'm driving to Vegas in my NISMO in June! That's one drive I'm definitely looking forward to more than all the rest. :)
|
It will be nice to take the Nismo out on a cross country drive especially since mine has been stored in my Mom's garage down in Cali since December (I live in WA state). I'll be working in Ft. Hood, TX this upcoming year so of course I HAVE to bring it with me!

No one hit limp?? Only me?

I haven't...........knock on wood!

I came close to hitting limp mode as my oil temp was creeping up on it. Had it been a hot humid summer day I think I would have hit it. I just did the drive back to DC today and it was a blast, I left early so no traffic and I hit my favorite parts all clear. I need to work on my rwd skills coming from the awd Audi. I did 380 miles in 6 hours which includes two stops for gas and pee time. With McDonald's too. Plus once you get close to DC it all slows down below 70 and through some speed trap towns.
Next mod will be oil cooler with steel brake lines and Nismo intake. So it's a good open road car. Go drive it hard! |
I've driven from DC to MS (12hrs) with no aftermarket cooler and had no heating issues. I also made a few Z fans along the way. :tiphat:

Ok guys, so I started my journey from Selma Ca to Killeen Texas on Thursday in my Nismo. So far I've done 1000 miles, still need to go another 600. I stopped in El Paso, TX for the night, will get to my destination tmrw. So far so good, hard to get my oil temps up to 180. I have a 25r cooler, and on the interstate I'm only reaching about 160, even thought it was 75 degrees in most of Arizona and New Mexico. I have a block off plate I made so I had to use it during the morning hours.

Awesome. How long are you going to be in Killeen? I should be back some time in the next month or so............Woohoo!

Long drives in my '03 350 Track used to be exhausting with the heavy gas pedal and even heavier clutch, even heavier steering, but have done many long drives on both freeways and mountain back roads in my '10 Nismo and it's a pure pleasure.
And ever since I got those f'ing suspension widgets out of the coils even the hard ride is no problem anymore. |
Just bought mine a few days ago in Texas. Drove 1200 miles to get it home in Minnesota. A lot of fun. A lot of back pain.
