oil filter
i am looking at getting redline oil and am confused on what oil filter to purchase. i plan on changing my oil every 7k (nismo is a dd with the ocassional fun run :driving: ). i read the pureone filter should be changed every 3k. problem is i dont want to have oil good for 7k but changing it every 3k due to the filter. those of you with 7k intervals what filter are you using and have you experienced any problems?
thanks for the help guys, much appreciated |
The only filter as of late would be the new one by Royal Purple. It's the only filter that can go the distance along with a long term oil. There are many oils that can go longer intervals between oil changes but no filter to match. Go to the Royal Purple website and check it out. And use Royal Purple instead of redline. Oh and you may have to look up the 09 370z cuz when I ordered they didn't have it for 10. The cars the same from the previous year so it's ok. The oil change interval with Royal Purple is 12k miles.

I use Mobil1 extended performance oil filters they are designed for longer intervals...little pricey though

Sorry didn't mean to sound like an advertisement but credit should be given where credit is due. Royal Purple was the only company that solved the bullet train vibration problem. That's not the only reason to get Royal Purple just throwin it out there. Check out their website or any other independent tests.

Really? I gotta see that. What does the blackstone mean? Or is that just a name? If that's the case, might have to go back to mobil 1.

Engines are all different and oils are all different. Some oils really play well with certain motors and not others. An oil analysis is the only way to really determine what works best with a certain motor.
|
Went to the blackstone site. Seems they do analysis of oil on a particular vehicle to determine what's wrong with your engine. It doesn't show tests of oils and which is the best, just analysis of your set up to determine what's happening to your engine. If you look up best oils, mobil 1 pops up everywhere but then you see best synthetic oil and Royal Purple pops up everywhere. Stick n with Royal Purple along with their filter. Look at how the filter is made and judge for yourself. You gain power just from swapping out your oil, tranny and differential fluids. And the fluid change interval period is longer as well.

Royal Purple burns like crazy in all VTEC equipped Honda motors. I use ENEOS; have any 370Zs here tried it yet? |
i bought the long amsoil filter..... $22!!!!!! but its synthetic and not paper.
we'll see.... |
^ What was the Amsoil filter number you used?

Just remember to make sure the filter has a check valve to assist in keeping oil up in the engine rather then it all easily draining into the pan. It does make a difference on start up. A Nissan dealer I had change my oil used an after market filter. I noticed at start-up it took longer for the tapping to go away. I went to a different Nissan dealer and they showed me the aftermarket filter and notified me I did not get the ester oil I paid for. This is when they told me the difference between the OEM filter and other filters. It did make a difference.

redline is a class 5 ester based oil. it has a life of 3-4k miles only! royal purple is a synthetic oil class 4 with a life span of around 5-6k miles.

The heavy duty filters that are available locally are the:
Mobil 1 Extended Performance - Short M1-108 - Long M1-110 K&N - Short HP-1008 - Long HP-1010 The M1 uses synthetic fibers in the filtration layer, don't have any data on the construction of the K&N but the weight feels roughly the same as the M1 indicating a similar amount of filter media. They are both are about twice as heavy as the Puralator Pure One which is the top of the line paper based filter. |
There are several videos on youtube that show various oil filters taken apart. None of them look like the Royal Purple one. I think Puralator has one that is made out of synthetics or mobil one, can't remember. As for the oil Royal Purple says 12k miles between oil changes. Mobil one has one that goes 15k miles. Less oil changes the better. If regular oil can go 7k+ miles, which alot of the oems are recommending on newer cars, I don't see why the synthetics can't go longer. Next time I do an oil change I may go with mobil one or catrol syntec and K&N filter simply because they are available anywhere and I don't have to order them.

DO NOT GO OVER 3k-4k miles on ESTER OILS!!!!!
royal puple you might squeeze 7-8k but thats pushing it. do not wait 12-15k miles to change your oil. |
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but seems logical to place here.
Looks like M1 oil Filters are no longer champ labs. Rumor is, they are now made by same manufacturer as Purolator. Just bought a couple and look cheaper. Has the spiral wound bypass valve vs Blue plastic/spring, a Pink anti-drain valve vs orange original. 8 small inlet holes vs 5 large. New can does look taller. (M1-108) For those who are interested. zz |
Why not use Amsoil? I use that in all my vehicles, even my 2006 Jeep which doesn't burn an oil by using Amsoil.
