Nismo Fuel Pickup Problem
 

Ok, I know most of you do not track your Nismo so just ignore this post. For those of you that do I have a question.

Over the past 3 DE events I have found that as I have gotten faster I now have a problem with the Nismo. It has to do only with big fast sweeping right hand turns. If I have less than ¾ of a tank of fuel – as I finish the turn the Nismo gets fuel starved for about 1 second – it just completely cuts out. :mad:

It happens in the exact same place on the track every time on the hot laps. I figure I will now need to add some sort of baffle in the gas tank but I thought I would see if anyone else has had this experience and if so what did you do for it? :confused:

The only practical thing to do right now is fill up before every session. Thats what I do. I have gotten it with as few as two dots from full.

Thanks for the response Mike. That is basically what I have been doing. It seems like such a waste since I spend some of my time trying to lighten the car up (2 piece rotors, lighter tires, etc….) only to have to run with major weight due to a full tank of gas. I hope I can figure out (or my mechanic) a way to see if a baffle will help.

Thanks for he tip. So after reading everyones comments on the issue it appears the only options are to keep a full fuel tank (I hate the idea of all that extra weight) :mad: or install a fuel surge tank. That sound about right?

at this point. Travis is working with a redesigned tank, and phunk might have a solution for us at some point also.

Isn't Travis just going with a traditional fuel cell? That is what I remember, but the baffled tank would be a great option to have available too.

I'm pretty sure he sent his tank out to be modified instead of a cell.

Well since this is one option I guess I would pass on it and just stick to carrying the extra 60 lbs of fuel per session.

I'm working on a sump pump/swirl pot setup, but it seems that 99% of members on here will not be needing it. More than likely it will be one-off but if there's enough interest I may produce it.

If it can get me down to 1/4 tank and the price is reasonable I'm in. Would we have to send our tanks to you for this or would this be something that can be installed?

why dont they just do something similar to aircraft and make the tube exiting the pipe have a venturi effect and have a low pressure high velocity point in the tube leading to an extra pump that is connected to the fuel tank that will decrease the chance of fuel starvation and maybe save a little on weight depending on the size of the suction tube. idk just a thought.

What? Maybe I am reading this wrong.
