Stock NISMO and Test Pipes....

Anyone have any links to vids of a stock NISMO running a resonated and/or non-resonated test pipe? Looking into it currently...but it's hard to find one w/o a new CBE...heck I thought that's part of what made the NISMO...the xpertly and quietly tuned exhaust note...:rofl2:

Upgrading the stock cats to either HFCs or TPs will certainly make you happy. It'll make your 4-6k RPM range come alive with a little growl. That being said, unless you're happy with a "6-7 out of 10" on the loudness range, you'll probably end up replacing the CBE as well. The car dramatically changes once the cats and CBE are upgraded, in terms of power and sound.

I have a Nismo with stock exhaust and long-tube headers. I'll post a video clip soon :)

Thanks, that will at least point in the right direction for non-resonated TP's... :D

yes please post it up! im too cheap to replace the nismo exhasut at the momment but i want some growl and a bit of better flow.

im on the fence..... HFC or res test pipes?????

What are the test pipes everyone keeps talking about? What do they replace?

they replace the cat completly. usualy they incorporate a small resonator to help with any rasp.

i went with CNT res test pipes.

I had test pipes on my OEM Nismo and didn't care a whole lot for it. It was definitely louder but there was a lot of rasp and still not the level of volume I was looking for so I went to FI HFC to get rid of the rasp. Therefore I then decided to replace the Nismo exhaust with the FI exhaust and have now went with a set of GTM Res. test pipes and it's just what i wanted. I wanted loud and exotic but no rasp. heres a vid.

i dont so much hear rasp from mine as i do a large whoooosshhhhhing sound of a sh!t load of air is trying to escape the nismo exhaust.

Well speaking with Tony from FI he stated that res. test pipes can make a big difference in how much rasp there is vs. test pipes. For me resonated is the way to go... a lil more expensive than non resonated test pipes but still alot cheaper than HFC and you still get all the power as you would a non resonated set

So test pipes are a straight through resonator that replace the cats? Wouldnt that throw codes like crazy or am i missing something?

I think im gonna remove the muffler, run straight pipes out that area, throw in a 2 high flow cats (stainless off brand), and run a couple of the longest powersticks that'll fit. Should bring out the exotic hidden away, just dont want it too loud...

Ill check that vid when i get home, no sound on this computer :ugh2:

test pipe = straight pipe no res or anything
resonated test pipes = also straight thru but with a perforated resonator to help remove rasp
HFC = not straight thru

yes test pipes reonated or not will most likely throw a CEL. mine did for 400 miles. then 200 miles later went back off????? hmmmm either way the car doesnt change anything when it throws the CEL. justa heads up for the driver.

If they have long j tubes you should be ok....about to go muffler delete with the TP's in next couple of weeks. I think I found a four inch tip from magnaFlow that will work.

Yea I have to say I think U-bend whether its test pipes or hfcs, prevents any CELs. I have res. test pipes now from GTM and they have a U-bend just like my FI HFC had and haven't had any CELs yet with about 500 miles on them. Never had any with the FI HFCs either. Check out the picks of how long the bends are on my new pipes
