Recaro seat-back won't hold position?
Has anyone else run into an issue with the Recaro seats where practically every time you get in, you have to turn that triangular knob to adjust the seat-back so it's not leaning back a little too far?
Mine seems to do that to me all the time, and it's starting to get a bit annoying. It's not that I notice the seat-back starting to lean back while I'm actually sitting in the car -- but the next time I get in, it's always tilted back further than I'd like it and I have to give the knob about a quarter-turn. |
I didn't notice it but I think mine does it too unless im just imagining things after reading your post

Nah... I think it's a "thing" after all...
I went to a Nissan dealer today for a wheel alignment and oil change, and asked the service tech if he ever heard of the issue with the Recaros needing the seat back adjusted regularly.
He said he owned a Nismo himself and his Recaro seat does the exact same thing. He actually laughed a bit, saying I'm the first one he's ever had mention it but his definitely does it. And on top of that, his brother had one where the passenger seat did it but not the drivers' side. Judging by the randomness of who said it did or didn't happen to them on their Nismos when I asked on a Facebook group for the 370z? I have a feeling this might actually be a defect in the design of the seats, but it's widespread enough so people (like dealership service staff) who sit in enough of them just assume it's a normal "Recaro thing". |
:driving:Not me but I have a European car being based in the UK. You may all say my steering wheel is on the wrong side but my recaros are fine.:driving:

Seems to be an OEM issue, sportster CS aftermarket bases do not have this issue

Not a good idea those Recaro seats finally. Maybe it was an abrupt configuration change on the Nismo...

My Nismo Recaro seats have been problem free. Now my Recaro SRD seat in my eclipse does need readjustment every few months. The seat back loses position after the repeated entry and exit. Sounds like a Recaro design issue.
|
My '17 Nismo Tech does the same. I thought I was hallucinating for a while. It requires slight adjustment every day.

Me too. 2017 Nismo Tech

Reviving this thread, I have a set of seats from a 2016 Nismo that I put in my 2010. Having the same issue with the drivers side where it gradually leans back from where I set it. Called the dealer and they had no clue what I could do to fix it. Has anyone here figured out a solution? About to take my seat out and remove the plastics and see what’s in there.

No issues with mine. I have a set in my car, even though I am not supposed too. LOL

No issue here. It’s been almost a year since the wife last adjusted her seating position.

Obviously you're hitting the gas too hard throwing your head against the headrest slowing pushing it backwards ;)

These Sportster CS aren’t specific to our car, they are available for purchase as aftermarket, and other manufactures (for sure BMW) offer them as option as well. Brief search doesn’t show it to be a widespread problem though. This is weird.

probably broken, contact recaro they might know about it and how to fix it.

Following up, Nissan North America didn't consider this seat problem to be a safety issue. They only checked on whether they would consider buying my whole car back which I obviously was not going to have them do. They refused to warranty it which I kind of expected.
Recaro checked with engineers in Japan and said the only way to fix the problem is to replace the seat back, as the mechanism itself is not serviceable. They said they cannot take parts or help with replacement as such because they are considered OEM parts. If it was a fully aftermarket Recaro seat it would be a different story. So I am at the point where I will see if my extended warranty will cover it. It is bumper to bumper and covers OEM parts, so we will see. Crossing my fingers. Anyone else still running into this issue and/or found a solution? |

Best of Luck on this. Please keep us in the loop!! |

New update, my extended warranty wants to help, but they don’t have a good way of verifying the problem without really driving the car (even though my Nissan tech verified it and I provided pics). They said they can’t help unless I can get paperwork from Nissan stating it’s some kind of TSB or multiple people have reported and logged the issue with Nissan.
Recaro said it isn’t serviceable and the entire seatback would need to be replaced. Not what I wanted to hear on either front given the lowest I’ve found a new seatback is $3,200.... :icon14: I can’t believe it really costs Nissan that much so I’d love to know if anyone here has leads on new OEM parts. :ugh2: |
