This Part Costs $400

This plastic cover which is a part of the plastic shroud that goes under the engine, is Nismo specific and costs $400.

Yeah...

I just had to buy that piece. I paid $200. I asked for my good boy discount. I do buy my parts from them. Oil filters, Air filters, and whatever else I need for my cars.

Your piece looks OK. Maybe a wobbled out hole from what I see.

TN.Z 08-16-2015 11:51 AM

I feel like you could make that with some metal and a drill if it's as flat as it looks.

Either way $400 is ridiculous, even $200 is a bit crazy. I am willing to bet it is at most $30-40 to manufacture.

I agree, my buddy can make that for cost of materials. I wonder what the dimensions are, would be nice to have pics from all angles to see what's involved.

Over $80 bux you're getting raped (if it was a space grade part or something like that I'd understand).

SouthArk370Z 08-16-2015 12:31 PM

A lot of what you are paying for is keeping a part that doesn't sell a lot of units on a shelf somewhere. If it were a frequently replaced part for a more common car, it would be cheaper. But, yeah, $400 is outrageous for a simple, non-structural part. I'd be very tempted to DIY a replacement.

Oh yeah, I made it work and it's back on the car.

I lost all the little plastic push pins that were holding it in, so I ordered a bag of 25 from Amazon for $5.00. Nissan wanted $6.00 EACH.

You need to find a different stealership. I can get the ones from the trunk with the D ring for approx 3-3.50 each from the dealer and that's in CDN$ too! For the standard push in ones I also went the eBay/amazon route but I know they aren't $6/each up here.

Perfect example for difference between dealers. Just last week I picked up some '15 Nismo aero parts. One dealer wanted 608 for the rear meanwhile 30mins away the other one wanted 378????wtf???? Needless to say I have boycotted the other stealership.

JC-Nismo 08-16-2015 02:49 PM

Ok, but what the hell does this part do?
Does it hold something important in place?
Doesn't look like much of anything to me.

cdoxp800 08-16-2015 03:15 PM

I just removed it an forgot about it.

Same want to know what's this for?

OP your sandals made of CF? For a moment I thought that was the one cost $400. :bowrofl:

It's just a cover that goes over a section of the undertray that's not flat. I guess so that the entire undertray is flat. It's pretty much useless unless they put it there for aero reasons, but I can't see how that part can make any kind of difference.

tjlazer 08-16-2015 04:42 PM

For aerodynamics

Ha Ha! Just noticed they look like CF. No, they're just my Reef sandals that I bought 20 years ago when my family lived in Puerto Rico. I wear them ALL the time and they still haven't worn out. Best footwear I've ever bought.

My local body shop will sell me a handful of rivets for a few dollars. Same or better quality than what came from the factory. Closer to $.50 each but I've been told to keep my money a few times. YMMV

Rusty 08-16-2015 05:38 PM

I lost that piece long ago. Heard it going under the car and out the back. Didn't know what it was. Thought that I ran over something. When I did my nexted oil change. Then I knew was it was. :shakes head: Now I have a Z1 undertray.

That part costs about $0.80 to make. Hell of a mark up.

Spooler 08-16-2015 10:13 PM

It's that plastic/fiber crap. It is ridiculous on the price. It is for the aerodynamics. I hit something on the interstate that took mine out. It fell down and dragged on the ground grinding a big chunk off. That's how I know it is that fiber plastic crap.

nismo13807 08-16-2015 11:50 PM

wtf that is crazy... with that price, i would just buy the whole undertray from zspeed..

2011 Nismo#91 08-17-2015 09:00 AM

ZSpeed 2009-2012 NISMO 370Z Aluminum Under Pan Diffuser

Yeah, it's marked up because its how nissan, as well as every other mfg, makes money from insurance companies. A very small front end collision will cost 2-3k to fix with oem parts.

It was confirmed that the undershrouds were originally incorrectly priced by Nissan. The base was listed at $1100 and the Nismo at $1400 when they were supposed to be $110 and $140. I spoke with one of my local dealers last year, and they confirmed the price is lower now.

1cleanZ 08-17-2015 10:35 AM

If you rip it off or comes off (as many of ours has), its a perfect opportunity to upgrade to the Zspeed undertray. Makes for very quick oil changes, and never having to worry about this crap again.

You cannot just remove it. The airflow that goes into the front clip will eventually push it down and make it flap back and forth. This happneed to me when I was driving down from MN to ZdayZ and w/ my car being as low as it is, it was smacking the ground. To get me through the trip I used black duct tape to get me down and back, but mounted the Zspeed immediately when I got back. The undertray of the nismo is absolutely retarded.

We also use the Zspeed in conjunction with our NLP CF Splitter for mounting points and added strength.

Someone forgot to tell that to my local Nissan dealership.

Hmmm... that is VERY interesting. Did they contact the people who paid the incorrect overpriced cost and refund them? I'm no lawyer or anything, but that sounds like class action lawsuit bait.
