Welcome Jim. The problem is that Nissan lacks support for the Roadster tops. Theyd rather just replace the whole shebang instead of fixing whatever part is defective. Most Roadster owners learn to deal with the problems..tons of good info on here...
I have a 9 year old roadster and the problems with my top are not catastrophic. Minor problems that are normal wear and tear, but overall pretty reliable.

Hi
I hope you still go with a roadster.Convertible tops can be trouble at times no matter the brand.Bungie cords get stretched, wires get pinched.Nissan does not know how to fix the top.I would not go to Nissan once warranty is up for work on top..If you have a shop in the area that works on tops they will be able to keep it working for many years to come.Nothing like a drive on a sunny day along a twisty road with the top down.

what about resale?
they offering me 5000.00 and then if i accept, then there not liable from that point on
any one ever get that option

bunk 05-23-2019 10:44 AM

Maybe im just a little dense, but what what would the dealer be liable for? Are they buying out your warranty for 5k? The roadster, and the Z in general is a solid reliable car. It has a few quirks, so a warranty would be a good idea to have.
What exactly is wrong with your top?

fiat218 05-23-2019 12:57 PM

they would by out the liability on the top for 5000, not the dealer, Nissan headquarters

the 5th bow and the hatch hit each other when opening and closing

bunk 05-23-2019 01:21 PM

Thats probably the most common problem. Can be fixed (bandaided) with less than 100 dollars, easy fix. Its just replacing the bungie cord.
If your warranty still covers the rest of the car, I would personally go for it and let them buy out their liability on the top. But I would make sure that the top is 110% in perfect order...

But thats just me.

Nissan wants to buy out top liability instead of fixing.
This shows how Nissan wants to wash their hands of Roadster tops. You can see why they will stop making roadsters. If they replace whole thing could run 14K.How long is left on your Warranty?I would ask for more money. If you take the 5k make sure you have something in writing about the rest of the car being covered.
I have never heard of a company doing this.Nissan built car and does not want to cover the top. What the Hell.

Maybe Nissan techs keep breaking something far more expensive and end up having to replace the whole thing under warranty. More economical to buy you out for $5k.

hello
car has 350 miles on it full WARRANTY yet
i told the technicians to watch a youtube video on how to replace the bungee. i bet that the problem, they said we cant just go change things and not know the problem lol

Yeah, because that's sure to be more reliable! :icon17: Good luck!

Cyber370 08-20-2019 03:36 PM

I love the Alfa Romeo 4C but yeah.............you're probably getting something worse as far as reliability is concerned. You might end up with more serious issues than what you presently have. But it does sound amazing and looks a lot more expensive than it really is. Best of luck with it.
