Goodbye Mustang, hello Nismo

The other Thursday we got a nasty snow in Maryland, and this happened. Fortunately I wasn't hurt, but all my plans for a 331 stroker project are now so much spare parts sitting around my basement... After test driving a Scion FR-S, Camaro SS, and mustang GT, I ended up with a 2009 Nismo.

Wonka2581 01-14-2014 06:38 AM

Holly shi* glad your ok, and you made a good choice on the Nismo.

Oh and :hello:

Jasonle 01-14-2014 06:52 AM

Nice! Congrats on the Nismo!

falconfixer 01-14-2014 07:15 AM

Glad to hear you are ok and nice trade up to a Nismo

Duc_Z09 01-14-2014 04:01 PM

Thanks for the welcomes. Also thanks to the guy who posted the 2009 service manual.:bowrofl:

So far I like almost everything about this car. Power is good, brakes are phenomenal, handling is excellent, ride is relatively smooth, interior is decent, and aesthetics are killer. I promised my wife I'd keep it bone stock, but somehow I need to convince her to at least let me get some tint; barely a week and I'm getting tired of people staring in at me all the time. Also, everyone suddenly wants to race me for some reason. What's up with that?

wheee! 01-14-2014 04:07 PM

good luck staying stock :nutswinger:

coop370z 01-14-2014 04:24 PM

Its a Z thing..

They always wanted to race my wife as well. I didn't mind when I was driving but my wife is in her mid 40's and kids were always trying to race her.............

m4a1mustang 01-14-2014 05:09 PM

Ouch!!! Glad you are alright!

SOUTHZZ 01-14-2014 05:27 PM

Sucks that I just destroyed the only car I ever owned (I'll be 30 on Saturday) and that I just got done putting so much into it... Eibach pro suspension, custom paint, Steeda shifter, MM steering shaft, Flowmaster exhaust, all new poly bushings, plus the 3.73 rear and newly machined block that was to be my 400hp swap engine.

Oh well, now I've got a badass car without all the work.:rofl2:

Austonian 01-14-2014 05:51 PM

Sorry about your mustang but thank goodness there was a brightside! enjoy that new Z
and welcome to the cult

Zensation 01-14-2014 06:01 PM

When I upgraded from my base model I promised my wife i would keep my nismo stock too..."It already comes with a better exhaust, rims, tune, brakes and suspension."...mod fever hits about a month post purchase ;).....Welcome!!! and regardless, congrats on the Z

/Angelo350Z/ 01-14-2014 06:20 PM

Nice purchase! Good luck in keeping your Z stock .

Atm121990 01-14-2014 07:08 PM

did you buy this from hagerstown, md? I seen it on a lot and it was gone in like 2 weeks.

cv129 01-14-2014 07:31 PM

Old lady's body isn't even cold yet (pun intended) and you are already flirting with a foreigner...big betrayal to the mustang community!!! Jk congrats

Z-Girl 12 01-14-2014 07:54 PM

Sorry to hear but how did the Scion fit into the equation???

A couple of my buddies were telling me how I should check out the Suburu/Scion since it's such a "driver's car" that's "super lightweight" and supposedly handles like none other... so to be objective I drove one. IMO it handles OK but has no guts to speak of and is constructed like it came out of a cereal box.:ugh2: I ruled it out immediately.

In case anyone cares, the Camaro had a ton of power (it should... it's a 6.2L v8 after all) but was ugly, overweight, handled like poo, and had a really badly designed interior. The Mustang had pretty decent handling (not like a Z, but good enough), an OK interior, and tons of power. I was all ready to pull the trigger on one except that I pass 45 of them on my way to work every day and the Nismo was more fun to drive. Is the Mustang faster in a straight line than a Z? Absolutely. Will it lap Summit main faster than a Z? Probably (sorry, flame suit on). But is it more fun? HELL NO!

I've been known to make buying decisions with my heart instead of my head, and so here we are. I'm now daily-driving a Nismo.:icon17: Here's my other ride...

Haha, me too. That's actually a horribly outdated picture. You could say the mod bug hit me pretty hard with the bike; to the tune of an Ohlins TTX36 monoshock, Dan Kyle linear link, Ohlins 25mm fork inserts, CRG shorty levers, Rizoma Lux grips, Woodcraft rearsets, CRG Arrow bar-end mirrors, Termignoni exhaust, Jet-Hot coated pipes, Oberon preload knobs and reservoir caps, Ohlins steering damper, Shift Tech carbon fiber key guard, front fender and rear hugger, Kurveygirl Dzus fairing bolts, Zero Gravity smoke windscreen, Helibars, Oberon 28mm clutch slave, Comp Werkes rear fender eliminator, Speedymoto frame and fork sliders, billet oil hardware, etc etc...

This is why my wife has put her foot down regarding the car.:owned:

Hey we gotta say something to justify it lol

/Angelo350Z/ 01-14-2014 09:51 PM

I never promised my wife I'd keep my cars stock. But when I buy parts, I always tell her they cost $300 max. Whatever mod it is, it's always $300. TE37s? $300. Bridgestone RE-11s? $300. F.I. CBE? $300. Now I can't stop lying about how much my parts cost.

I usually don't say anything until ups is at the door. Then I'll swear I told her about this part lol better forgiveness than permission!

Man screw the snow. Ive only ever seen it snow once in Florida before and stick to the ground. Was in north Florida when that happened but was gone by the afternoon! Just let those kids race off all day long, I just let them do it but no one ever messes with me, jUst thumbs up etc. I had one straight up want to race with his GTO. he took off and I just sat there and slowly left the green light and guess who was at the other side of the road....lol a COP!!! He went flying after that guy and nailed him:) I laughed so hard.

Enjoy! Tint and exhaust is a great way to start, maybe some cold air intakes and you can be set for awhile!

Hi

1cleanZ 01-15-2014 08:28 PM

ehh, hate to see the accident, but congrats on the Nismo! Welcome!

skidad62 01-15-2014 09:46 PM

Welcome aboard! Glad you weren't injured.

I made the shift from a fully built mustang to a Z too

Holy crap! I bet!:eekdance:

The Z is a lot of fun so far, but in a different way. It certainly handles/brakes a lot better than my old Mustang, even with all the chassis mods I had.

Duc_Z09 01-24-2014 08:41 PM

It happened again. Some douche in a Civic (bone stock) flew by me in the right lane and then cut in; all 85 hp screaming, while weaving around on his 4" tires. I took the high road and ignored him. WTF is wrong with people?
