New 240z Owner

1 Attachment(s)
Hello, All

I'm not new to this forum, but there was nowhere to post a new owner of an older Z and I'm too excited not to post. So I traded my 1990 300ZX and some cash for a 1973 240z!!! I'm so excited. I still plan on getting a red 370z NISMO some day, but with my wife and I closing on our first house next week, I just can't imagine being able to afford the 370z for a few more years. I have no intention of selling my 240z though. It'll be my perma garage queen along side my NISMO.

My first Z was a 2008 350z enthusiast. I fell in love with the 350z in 05. I patiently waited for it to make financial sense. Then in Sept of 09, I found the perfect car. Six months later, my wife totaled the car. :shakes head:

I made it about a month without a Z before deciding to buy a 300ZX to tide me over until I could afford a 370z. I did some light tasteful mods to it and drove it from Colorado to Tennessee for ZCON 2010. What an awesome experience that was. It was there that I fell in love with the Z-car community as a whole and saw my first 240z in person. I knew that I just had to have one.

As luck would have it, I couldn't get any serious offers on my 300zx as I tried to sell it for 6 months. It was one of those "once you see it in person, you'll know why I listed it for so much" kinda cars. After much difficulty trying to sell it, I finally came across the perfect situation where a 240z owner wanted my car and I wanted his. We were able to reach an agreement that was mostly a direct swap with a little cash from me seal the deal.

It is one of the sexiest cars that I've ever owned. I can't stop staring at it. I can only imagine what people thought in the 1970's.

Pic of my 3 Z's attached.

You seem to be working your way backwards in the time line. :) Very nice, congrats!

PS

I'd undercoat it since your in Colorado?

Sweet dude, take some more pics? How's the condition? Any rust? I assume you knew what to look for.. enjoy!

Ardent_Z 07-06-2011 05:53 PM

Yeah, I like how you're working backwards there!

It's been a fun experience really learning the heritage of the Z-car.

I knew mostly what to look for. The car is rust free (i looked all over). It runs well. The main issues with the vehicle are that it needs a better paint job to really make it shine. There are a couple of really small dings, I wouldn't even call them dents. The interior dash has three cracks, but I located a mint condition dash, and the seats need to be recovered, but the zstore has seat covers that look like the original. Everything else in the car is original. The interior isn't dirty which is a huge plus.

More pics coming. I can't get the website to load them without crashing.

Welcome to the club and remeber to enjoy your S30! The performance of that car from a 40 year old platform is nothing short of impressive. There is no competeing with technology but regardless the 240Z is iconic for a reason. It's too bad that there is such a disconnect from the whole heritage of the Z car with new owners. Lots of times I'll opt to leave the 370Z in the garage to take the 240Z out instead....

You have a whole collection of older Z-cars, right? I've been lusting after your cars for awhile now. haha

Wow that is the exact replica of my first Z, right down to the Bob Sharp air dam. The only difference is I had lens covers on the head lights. How I miss that car. It's because of that car, I became a Z fan. The 370 is my fourth!

The classic Z cars are definitely something to appreciate. I wish there were more in my area in fair condition. It seems like these cars are either buckets, or have enough work to be outside my price range for a 2nd car :(

The lens covers and air dam really transform the front end! When I had my 240, the lens covers only came in clear and weren't even pre-drilled with mounting holes. So I brained stormed and just painted the inside with black spray paint. Needless to say it looked awesome but wasn't worth a dam at night. I remember one night pulling out of a club and was pulled over, the officer commented on how great it looked but still made me take one off. That was back in the day when officers could be a little more lenient. Those were the days!

tommyguns 07-07-2011 07:00 PM

I can't stop looking, it really brings back some intense memories. I once had 5 people in that car, me and my buddy in the front and 3 girls in the back hatch! What a night!
The one thing I did notice is that the original Bob Sharp air dam didn't have the spot cutout for the directional lamps, it was strictly for track use. So I had the body shop delete the factory lamps and installed oval flat lamps to the grill. She was quite the looker!

TheGreatOne 07-07-2011 09:19 PM

Beautiful and congrats! Can't say I've seen many that colour

You are where I'd love to be in a few years...have my 40th Z and a 240Z...whether its in great condition or something I get to restore over the course of a few years

Couple nice ones have been for sale locally...mint.

Anyways....very nice pick up! One reason I love the 370 is that it resembles the 240Z lines so much

docaam 07-08-2011 01:43 AM

congrats man, very nicely maintained car you got there.

I am in process of shipping one to dubai myself to do a SR20DET conversion. If you dont mind could you please pm me how much you got that for?

The reason you don't see many is due to the steel the Japanese used in their production. Most have just rotted away, a real shame!

Awesome! Something about those older ones that gets in your blood.
I had a 280Z about 79-80 or so. I never forgot it I always wanted another one after that. Finely couldn't stand it anymore and got my 370..
