Trade up!

I came from a Civic and have forgotten all about it in the month I've had my Z. I had an 8th gen like yours (but a sedan) and am familiar with 8thCivic... good community. But man, you and I both know that "it's just a Civic" feeling. And really, when you think about it, the car is just your average sport-compact. Nothing special at all.

Though yours is pretty damn nice with those mods!

But the Z is just a better car by far. It runs low-mid 13s stock and dynos around 270ish to the wheels depending on what type of dyno you use. Guys with full intake/exhaust are putting down 320+ whp. That will put you into the 12s for sure if you have any clue how to drive a straight line.

I say go for it! Drop the Civic and pick up a brand new Z... you'll never regret it. I doubt you'll even think about your Civic!

m4a1mustang 04-22-2009 08:52 PM

As far as mod prices... just some ballpark figures here...

Intake... roughly $550

Full exhaust (headers, high flow cats, cat-back)... $2,000+

Tires... the summers on the 19" Rays are very grippy to say the least. :D

Welcome to the forums. I like your car. 13.9 is a very respectable time. I have been a big fan Si's. I always wanted to buy an ep3 as a beater (was driving 350z at the moment). The newer si's are very nice. Great gearbox and not too bad power to weight ratio.

Before you buy your 370Z, you gotta ask yourself, if you can live without back seats? I think you'll love the upgrade. Good to have you with us and feel free ask any questions you may have.

(A civic feeling) exactly what I mean. its just too civil. Thats what I like about the Z. To me a civic is a boys toy and the Z, well, its just a real mans car. I would miss vtec and the digital speedo and the 8k redline. With my SI i was just going for the underdog type. But I really cant get more out of it without going sc or tc. But thats just too expensive. for that money with what I already have into it I could have bought a 370z by now so thats what I'm debating. I was planning on going with the comptech stage 2 sc which puts down 306 with my mods. Thats not bad but I just dont feel it will keep up with a class the Z is in. I'm not willing to spend that kind of money on a chance to see if it would outperform something in a higher class. If i did foot the money and it didnt perform better than a higher class I would just be so disappointed. Thats the problem with hondas I guess. I think if I get the Z and do the same mods I have already done to my honda I would be in the
12s for sure, and for a lot less money than it would take to get the honda in the 12s.

SOLISIMO 04-22-2009 09:01 PM

Tell your wife to buy parts for the 370Z that way "a part of her is with the car" and get rid of the Honda. Vtec is a thing of the 90's :)

why do you say vtec is a thing of the 90s. Have you driven a new SI. The vtec in stock form is subtle but with my current mods its like a turbo feeling. she pulls real hard with the right mods

LOL. But its just more sentimental than that to me since it was my first new car and first car I ever modded.

Loved the digital speedo! It doesn't take long to adjust, though.

You're definitely right about the class of car. It's a real step up.

I used to underestimate the power of V-TEC as well, until one of my friend gave me a ride in his S2000! From 6000 to 9000 RPM (VTEC range) = SICK! . But the problem I see is that vtec constantly want you rev your engine higher where VQ has the torque throughout the whole RPM. That was one of the reason I never drove S2000. Going from si, you'll love the whole-RPM-power of the 370Z. You can almost never be in a wrong gear.

+1.

The VQ has a lot of torque on tap at just about every RPM. It's great and was very surprising to me.

This is coming from a guy who used to sport a 12second Mustang!!! :driving:

ya i know what you mean. she doesnt come alive until 5800 then she stays in the vtec powerband throughout but when your getting up in the higher gears i just realize she has no torque. kinda like the little engine that thought it could but couldnt. there really is no way to get real torque from a honda. you just have to lose weight but you can only do that so much for a daily driver.

We , at The370Z.com, are car enthusiast people. We respect everyone's car. If you notice, except me, none of the Moderators and Super moderator drive a 370Z. This clearly explains our respect toward all different cars. 90% of the current 370Z owners (when they first signed up here) came from different cars. It ranged from Mitsubishi eclipse to civic to Evo etc.

Ichiba test pipes, Ichiba y pipes, Greddy Tic for the exhaust. I have H&R's springs, stillen sways, Ichiba spacers (not on when video was shot) and just ordered the Injen intake. Ohh and Stillen splitter. BTW I love civic let me clarify that since some of us are all edgy:stirthepot:

This coming from a guy that currently drives a del sol (granted mine is more of a beater and not modded like yours) I cant wait to get rid of my del sol and the lifted truck that i never drive to get a 370. I have spent a ton of money into my truck and it is like my dream vehicle, but the 370, like you say, is in a whole new class of vehicles. It is very sporty, if you get touring and nav, very luxurious, and has the engine and punch to hang with most cars out there... Get some pro photos taken of your car, maybe with you and your girl, make a poster or something and keep that to remember her with. I guarantee that you will not regret getting the 370. Not to mention you will have better performance than what you are at now, stock without any type of mods...

Oh, and welcome to the forum too! You will like everyone here, it is informative, laid-back, and a fun place to be that is constantly updated...

chrisw169 04-22-2009 10:27 PM

and as far as the pricing goes for what you are looking for, if you go to the pricing section, they have invoice pricing in there and there has been a lot of people getting close or at invoice. Also, in the general section, Robert Nash has a thread going where if you PM him he can get you a code to get VPP pricing from Nissan and that is a deal that you cant really pass up...

OMGWTFBBQ 04-22-2009 10:43 PM

2009 Nissan 370z > 2007 Honda Civic Si x100000000000000.

Trust me, I have both.

PS: I'm also from 8thcivic. OMGWTFBBQIMDEREK. :D

I came from a Land Rover :D lol. I had a few civics/tegs/celicas back in high school though.

chubbs 04-24-2009 03:22 PM

Why don't you take out a small loan (equal to the trade-in value of your civic), buy a 370Z and give the Civic to your wife.

That way you both get to keep the Honda and all it's sentimental bits AND you get the Z.

The loan will be paid off in no time.

...if that's not the answer, just sell the Honda and move up a gear to the Z.
