Point me in the right direction
Heyo, I will own a 370 in 2010 no question. Ive been surfing this forum looking for a sort of staged upgrades list. Im sure there is something somewhere, can somebody point me in the direction of a relevant thread?

Anything guys?
I am new to Nissan and the Z in general. In fact, my experience is limited to my VR-4 which obviously differed from a modding standpoint in that it was turbo and veryyy old. From searching around I see people installing intakes, hi-flows cats, etc. Where does it generally go from there? |

Being that you've owned a sports car before I'm a little lost on what you're asking for...
Intake, Headers, Exhaust, Programmer/ECU, Suspension, Clutch, Flywheel, Pullies, Brakes Everything is the same except the Zs don't have factory forced induction. Hopefully the Tech Area will get you goin. Grats on your future purchase! :tiphat: |
Sorry if Im a little unclear, what Im essentially asking is if there is a sort of staged upgrade blueprint? In simple terms, Im looking for some sort of basic guideline for groups of mods from basic things I can do at home with relatively low cost and power gains, to more serious more labor and cost intensive modifications.
With my 3000 I never went beyond an intake and catback, was too young with too little money haha. I will definitely browse some more through the tech section. Thanks all. |
There isn't a set "staged" upgrade list.
As Vipor said, you can choose to upgrade your vehicle as you feel best suits your needs and desires. In the Tech Area you can see peoples experiences with different products. Intake, Headers, Exhaust, Programmer/ECU, Suspension, Clutch, Flywheel, Pullies, Brakes. You can also go FI if you want... |
Yeah, there is no real "upgrade" path, but I would suggest try to lay out a plan ahead of time.
~Do you want to do forced induction in the future? (Twin turbo or Supercharger) ~What are your plans for the car? (Show, track, street) With those two you can lay down a pretty good plan of yourself, and others can get an idea of what they might recommend. |
In my past experience, I've come to believe that some of the best upgrades, especially to make first, are suspension upgrades. Personally, I'd look at something along those lines first, assuming you were going that route anyways. If you weren't planning to do that then just do an exhaust, intakes, maybe a pully, etc
|
I think the most common upgrades have been the following:
Stillen Gen 3 Intakes Berk High Flow Cats Fast Intentions Cat Back Exhaust KW3 Coilovers Hotchkis Sways Hope that helps. Not sure what you are looking for. |

This has been helpful. Togo, would you mind expanding on your suggestion a bit, why are suspension upgrades a particularly good first step? I doubt I will be doing anything more than AutoX as far as racing is concerned, though I can see how it would be useful there. From what Ive read the Z handles pretty damn well.

It depends on what you are using the car for.. if you plan to AutoX or do a road course a lot, then the suspension mods will make a bigger difference in the fun of it than an exhaust and intake IMO. If you're mostly just gonna drive around town in the car.. then do the exhaust and intake upgrades and maybe not worry about the suspension so much.
The Z does handle well but those that threw on some KW Varient 3 and some sways (like hotchkis) have report amazing results. It's been one of the more popular setups for those that have gone with adjustable coil-overs and sways. For instance, when modding my track/street bike, I did all performance mods first.. exhaust, intakes, custom tune, gears, chains, kleen air, etc. I did my Ohlins suspension mods last.. and guess what was the most noticeable upgrade with the biggest results.. Yup, Ohlins rear shock and Ohlins fork cartridge kit... (however the suspension upgrade cost the most, $3k, more than most have spent on a their car..) Quote:
