Refused test drive, even refused a brochure.. but they wanna sell me a GTR?
I went to Rothrock Nissan in Pennsylvania today. I looked over the Z on the showroom floor and nobody bothered to say anything to me so I walk over to the desk and politely asked for an associate. I'm 26 years old and I'm dressed nice because today was supposed to be a day to celebrate.
A guy approaches me, I explained I've got 200,000 miles on my current daily driver and I'd like to buy a new Nismo Z. They didn't have one so they looked up other dealer inventory, and said hold on a moment while they get some keys so I can test drive one of the models in stock. Guy comes back and hands me a piece of paper that outlines all of their services for people who purchase new car from them. I asked where the keys are, the guy says to me, "we can let you test drive it in the parking lot only." Yup.. you read that right.. In the parking lot only. So I'm supposed to get a good feel for comfort, convenience, stability, acceleration, braking, and road irregularities all while driving 5 mph in the parking lot? I thought he was joking, so I said why is that? He looks up from the paper and he says, "because guys like you come and beat the crap out of them before real customers buy them and they end up with a car that's already been beat on.: Mind you, I came here to buy a car.. I'm not going to buy a car that I can not test drive first of all. Second, what on earth are they thinking talking to me like this? I'm 26 years and I certainly look like it. There was no reason what-so-ever for type of discrimination on their behalf. The guy brings me over to the manager, and the manager explains to me that they do have 2 GTR's on the lot. I said I'm here to buy a Nismo Z.. and I'm not going to test drive it on the parking lot that's dangerous and just not intelligent. I request a brochure so I can leave and find another dealer.. guy comes out with a brochure shows me a picture of the Nismo in the book and then puts it on his desk. Says follow me.. and takes me over to the GTR's outside the next showroom. I said what is the point of this, I told you what I want.. you refuse to let me test drive it, you don't even let me have the brochure and you think I'm going to spend 84,000 dollars on an automatic GTR when I specifically mentioned all my automobiles are STICK. I can not make sense of any of this and I am thoroughly aggravated by their games. The only reason I can think that they would have any reason to believe I'm not serious about buying a Z was because I drove there in my Subaru Legacy. However, trying to talk me out of buying a Z and into buying a GTR says otherwise. OH... the best part is the salesman tells me they don't drop any prices it is what it is. The Nismo is 39,xxx solid, and the GTR is 84,xxx solid. No haggling etc either buy it or leave. **** you rothrock Nissan. I had planned to buy cash on the spot. |
Wow. These guys sound like total douchebags.
|
dude... go to one of the other million nissans out there and get your baby the way you want it... and then drive it back and laugh at their sticker price
|
yeesshhh.... I'd say report them to BBB, seriously its not like they are selling you an audi or BMW. My experience with the local nissan was crappy to say least, saying that "when you have the money we can talk about test driving." To think that being a less expensive car company that they would treat you well, nope. I've had BMW and audi dealers nice enough to understand my financial situation and still at least let me sit in the car and treat me like a human. Here is a vid of me and my b-n-l taking a TT by ourselves very nice sales person and manger, if I had the money I def. would buy from them. This was at livermoor audi in N. CA. Excuse the jibber jabber...I was :excited: at that time .

Man that sux. Go to dealer that treats you like they need you. Also call corporate and explain what happened, you may get a discount.
|
i bought my nismo without taking a test drive
|
I told my dealer I wanted to drive a Z, they made a copy of my DL, and off we went. If he would not have done that I would have shopped elsewhere and that's all there is to it. Screw these guys, take your money to someone who wants it.

I asked them how do you think my current car got up to 200,000 miles if I was beating on it? The whole point is... I wasn't. I really want a 2010 Nismo and I like the idea one of you suggested I purchase it elsewhere and show up there and rub it in.. I'm definitely down for that. |
Call Lou !!!!

I forgot to mention, they ask me how many miles I drive per year.. I said well I put 30,000 miles on my car last year. Manager laughs and says, I dont mean to laugh.. but you want to put 30,000 a year on your Z? I said it's a car .. you buy them to drive right?
He says.. well you have 200K on your Subaru.. your Z might last between 100 or 200. At least the dealer was being honest and not telling me their cars last for ever.. haha. I called and made a complaint, this is not how I wanted today to go. But hey.. I kinda expected this after we got my mother an 08 altima 2.5 6 speed.. the engine was making noise by 4,000 miles and the dealer said it could be a "cracked cylinder lining" which "shouldnt be a problem" and they "will replace it if the engine fails" uh.. it already has. I am starting to have second thoughts.. but I keep reading this forum and people seem to be enjoying their VQ engines "other than those that sound like a tractor, or a school bus." People crack me up... |
Sounds right.
Most East Coast dealers are like that! |
That sucks. Sorry to hear that... I got the same respons too, I was 22 when I bought an 06 touring 350Z new haha They were very hesitant until they looked at my credit and my job salery... Then It happened again when I bought my 370Z I was 25 when I purchased it and they were kind of giving me the "eye" and Again backed off when they looked at my salery and credit :)

Dude! You so should buy it at another dealership. Call up the manager make an appointment to see him. Like your going to buy something from him. Ask him to come out and meet you infront of his sales man buddies. Say something like "[name] Dealership let me test drive my Nismo and i bought it cash, just thought i let you know how much you suck..."
or simply "Do you like my new Nismo i bought cash?.." let him sweat an answer "See what happens when you descriminate!" (maybe throw in a B*tch at the end) and drive off:stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot : I almost did something like this to my local dealership when they didnt want to make a deal.$$ But since i picked another trim level they didn't have, i figured it wouldn't have been as sweet. But i feel angry for you man. Good luck with purchase. |

a friend of mine saw my nismo and said "wow, can your car fly?" i replied "no, but it does sound like an airplane" (compared to the mercedes) :) |
Sorry to say. ...your gonna get that when you're young. I experienced it when I bought my 350Z. I went to five different dealers beofre I found one I liked.
As a side note, beofre a test drove a 370Z last summer, my wife and I stopped into the Porsche dealership just to get a closer look at the cayman. All I said was "Hi I stopped into aske afew questions and take a quick look at the Cayman." He asked PDK or a manual, told him PDK was not my style, and out of my price range. Next thing out of his mouth was, " Do you want to take one for a drive?" I said, "well I'm not planing to buy today, really just wanted more info." He said thats OK. So off my wife and I went - for a test drive in a new Cayman. |
Sorry to say. ...your gonna get that when you're young. Because, he's right, you looked (and probably said the same things) as a joy rider. So the dumbazz sales guy is gonna treat you like one. I experienced it when I bought my 350Z. I went to five different dealers before I found one I liked.

Worth the drive -helluva deal, and great service. He'll make delivery arrangements if you prefer. |
show up with your check book ready and tell them to give you a deal or youll walk out

I ordered my 370z without test driving a z. What you should of done is contacted dealers through edmunds, costco, or by email before walking in. You really should of left the dealership once they began acting the way you did. As people mentioned there are other Nissan dealership. If you're serious about buying a z get a firm price, get approved financing before walking into the dealership.

I purchased 5 cars from dealers in the past 7 years and every time it's the same thing. They make assumptions and I get a sour taste in my mouth. You are all correct though, they do tend to be less willing to test drive on the east coast period.
I went down to Katy, Texas, to buy my 97 Supra from a dealer. Best buying experience of my life. I picked my price, they printed out my paper work and I left with my car in a matter of an hour. When I went into the dealership today and spoke to the sales guy, I said: "I'd like to buy a 2010 Nismo.. in Red" They didn't have one and I knew this so I said: "I realize you do not have one on hand but I'd like you to go over the other models with me and test drive a 6 speed since I will only drive manual transmission vehicles." Since people are saying I should come to some kind of agreement before I go to another dealer, do you mean tell them I am paying up front and ask them for their bottom line price? Or should I name MY price and let them decide if they want my business. Other thing, peoples word is never good. I have learned this if nothing else in this life and you just can't trust these crooks. How am I supposed to get a solid guarantee that they will not try to lure me in and waste some more of my time? |
Name your price, there is an invoice thread here and it seems most (if not all) here are getting just over invoice for the 2010, about the same for the 2009. Go in prepared with your material, price/options/color/etc. and if they are going to be a**wholes about the thing then leave and move to another dealership.
If they are all bad, there are some dealers on the board here who will be more than happy to get you the car you want and even ship it to you. |
