New 2014 370z owner near Seattle

I just picked up this sweet new magnetic black 2014 370z last week. It's the touring with sports package in manual transmission. Interior is black as well with the nice alcantara on the seats. I have a clear mask being installed next week to protect against those nasty rock chips in the front bumper.

I traded off an older 2008 350z that I only had for about six months through the summer and a 2012 Prius. I did like the Prius, but I got tired of driving a computer appliance around and wanted something with more character! My uncle used to pick me up in his 79' 280ZX back in the 80's and I started to miss the Z experience. I even owned the 79' 280ZX for a while before I sold it to my boss, which sometimes I regret (nice classic Z!). After driving the 350z for a while, I was hooked and decided to go all in.

So far I just love the heated seats, feels so good!

I've been fixing up my garage with detailing stuff to keep it as shiny as possible. I've been watching all the detailing videos out there talking about two or three bucket systems, grit guards, foam guns, polishers. It's a lot of work, but I hate the idea of going through a automatic car wash and getting all those nasty swirl marks all over the paint.

Very nice! Did you pick it up at Cambell Nelson? (plate frame). Is this a touring?

I'm waiting for my 15 to show up.

Yes, Cambell Nelson and it is a touring with sports package. I don't think I got a very good trade-in because they claimed I had negative equity in the trades. I just hate haggling and negotiating that type of stuff.

Awesome. Nice color. Best Price on Z's...come and see me. I will beat any and all pricing in Washington State. I own a 14 Z as well.

I've been car shopping since August, and I can say compared to the east coast that the dealers around seattle really low ball on trade ins. They offer "auction" price instead of actual trade in.

Go Seahawks!

Depends on where you go. When you see a huge dealership...think who is really paying for it. Run for the hills.

Check out Intec Racing in Kent Z Ninja. Ask for Lawrence if you want to mod your Z. I posted my dyno on my page from today @ Intec.

Clear Bra

I'm having the clear bra installed today, won't get the car back until tomorrow. I definitely believe it's worth doing as soon as you can. If you talk to any paint guy, repainting the bumper is not worth the effort. Depending on how old the car is, they always have trouble with blending the paint with the rest of the car so it looks good.

I had a 2008 350Z for a while and the front bumper was a mess with rock chips, so was part of the hood. The body shops I talked to said it would be hard to match the new paint with the rest of the car and it might look odd. Rear bumper also had some scratches due to backing into someone, you could see the license plate frame in the bumper.

Kind of one the reasons I decided to get a new Z, so I didn't have the previous owners mistakes all over the bumpers and the big scratch that was near the door handle. There was also curb rash on one of the wheels, and the front bumper took a hit on the curb itself. Other than that, it was sweet car with only 45,000 miles on it.

Black is pretty easy to color match. But yeah clear bra is a good idea I wish previous owner of my car believed that.

Congrats and welcome. Love the MB. The only regret I have getting my '13 was not getting touring. I wish I had the heated leather seats. Good call on the clear bra. I had the 3M product put on mine during the first week of ownership too. After 2 years I don't have a single rock chip on the front. If I were to do it again, I'd have the entire hood done. I've got it half way up the hood. I do have one small rock chip on the hood above the clear bra that would have been avoided if I had the whole hood done. I would also do the rocker panels if you can afford it. Mine are trashed and I need a repaint. Not just under the rocker panel but the paint is badly chipped just in front of the rear wheel. This winter I'll have it repainted and clear bra applied after the paint cures. I hear you on the two bucket system too. Lots to learn. I buy most of my stuff from Chemical Guys. Buckets with grit guards, soaps, clay-bars, polishes, etc. They're great for us folks that live on the West Coast. 2 years using their stuff and my paint looks great. Congrats on the Z and welcome!

Cars I've owned, and their sordid histories:

1st car - Dad gave me a very trashed 1977 Datsun 710 Wagon. A couple of electrical fires and crashed a few times in the ice and snow. Wore the brakes down so far they disc shattered into pieces. Shouldn't all first cars be this bad? :horse:

2nd car - New red 1995 Nissan Sentra Limited Edition 5 speed. No credit history, so smacked with a ridiculous 13.8% interest! Payment was eating me alive.

3rd car - New blue 1997 Nissan Altima - Smoked up the brakes when I forgot to disengage the parking brake. Got t-boned after only about 1100 miles when a truck went through a stop sign right into the side ($2K damages). Was repaired and lease expired and turned back in. Leases suck! Don't do it! $500 excessive wear and tear charge.

4th car - Uncle's completely restored 1979 Datsun 280ZX. Multiple breakdowns, seized coolant pump, then shattered crank shaft pulley. Replaced alternator twice. Eventually sold to my boss, alternator went yet again, fan clutch yet again.

5th car - New 2000 Saturn SL - Eventually the automatic door locks wouldn't work anymore (stuck). Key ignition switch was hot and smoldering; little stream of smoke seeing coming up from the steering column. Dealer said it was "normal" to run hot. Now come to find out years later the real story with GM's massive ignition switch scandal! I could have been one of those statistics if it had finally melted into a pile of goo on the floor boards! Front bumper torn off by office employee trying to park a van-pool vehicle in front of my car and screwed up. Rear bumper destroyed by getting rear ended at 40 MPH. Got it in both ends!

5th car - New 2006 Toyota Prius - Yes, I was enamored by the technology and gas saving capabilities. Driver side mirror torn off by a beer truck after police diverted traffic through the street I was parked at that was too narrow. Truck driver pissed that he was going to need new drug tests now. Multiple dings and scratches from idiots in parking lots! (repaired by Dent Destroyer).

6th car - New 2012 Toyota Prius - Yes, decided I liked it enough to get the new model with sun roof, heated seats, etc. But after a while, I started getting Z fever from remembering the 280ZX. Mid-life crisis? Only damage was carrying servers from work and they slid around poking holes in the back of my nice leather seats! Marred up the inside door handle as well. Don't use your personal car for work unless it's a really beat up mess all ready.

7th car - Used 2008 Nissan 350z with only 41,000 miles on it. Base model. Still had the Prius. In very good shape, except curb rash on one wheel, marred up front bumper from same previous owner curb parking screw up, rock chips galore. Rear bumper marred from yet another parking screw up backing into something, outline of license plate could be seen in paint. Driver side arm rest a totally scratched up POS (replaced). Interiors on 350z just aren't very good.

8th car - 2014 370Z - Got rid of both the Prius and 350z, but lousy trade-in. Now I'm paying a premium on fuel, but so much more exciting than the Prius.

Mom says if I hadn't been trading off cars so much, I'd be rich by now. I'm not so sure.

Thoughts? :driving:
