Another one bites the Z...

Hey guys, I've picked up my new 2012 Magnetic Black 6SP-MT about an hour ago; did the usual coffee-bean-and-tea-leaf run with my buddy and drove us back to work.

I love this thing, so far got 45 miles on it heh, virgin...

Anyway, I'll post pics wen I get home, no rush since everyone's seen one heh heh :)

I've got a list of mods I'll do wen I hit around 2K miles on it.

1st thing oil cooler, 2nd a good lowering kit (about 1 inch or so will do).

The car is freaking amazing, and I dunno how people can say it is hard to drive, it is a lot easier to drive than my old Mustang, GTi and Toyota Tacoma...

Hi

tibal 06-25-2012 04:54 PM

Doesn't really matter, I'm planning to start slow, simple basic needs first. Oil cooler to make sure the engine is running at proper temps, it gets hot here in the summer especially. I'll probably address the ride height and then AEM dryflow air filters, Z1 Silicone Post-MAF Intake Hoses, K&N Drop-In Air Filter, JWT Dual POP Intake (meby).

We'll see.

370ZilverZ 06-25-2012 06:21 PM

Congrats and welcome. I have 1.5k and had pretty much all of my mods done before I hit 500.

zero 06-25-2012 06:23 PM

Congrats!!!

FYI, I got the same thign you bought, 2012 also. With the stock cooler you won't need an additional cooler unless you are planning on tracking. The stock cooler, even with hard driving you wont see more than 260.

I'm concerned about the whole '220F' and the low end torque is toast thing.

Are you noticing any of that? There's a number of threads related to people raising concerns for that issue.

I know about the 280F aka limp-engine-protection mode, but that's for temps over 220F.

That's pretty bacon man :)

I bet you've head performance cars prior to the Z right?

LakeShow 06-26-2012 01:58 AM

Welcome and congrats!

I have about 12K miles, pretty much mostly track, about 12-14 track days since I bought it in Nov-Dec of last year....I think too many people pay too much attention to the temp gauge lol. With the stock cooler on a 2012 you are fine unless u plan to track in the summer. Even with a 34 row cooler at the track I still hit 265 deg or so, it just doesn't go past that.

This engine runs hot and dirty, just need to do oil changes more often....

HerOuji 06-26-2012 02:49 AM

Congrats n welcome!!!

Pauly 06-26-2012 05:31 AM

welcome!

blackcherry20 06-26-2012 05:57 AM

Congrats and welcome! the Z is an AMAZING car!

binary0x01 07-05-2012 03:26 PM

Just over 560 Miles on the odometer... this car makes me smile every time I walk up next to it. I look at any other car next to mine and just grin. The shifting is getting smoother every session, can't wait to redline it a wee bit before the first oil change.

I wanna pay a visit to specialty Z here in SoCal, find out from them dudes what mods I should do and what I should do by myself and what I should have them do.

Anyway, just a pointless post from another satisfied Z driver... :)

Nismo89 07-05-2012 03:51 PM

congrats, i have to agree, you get your Z and look at every other car like yes....this is mine lol

864Zbeast 07-05-2012 03:54 PM

Congrats welcome!

rmtnichols 07-05-2012 08:30 PM

New Z owner. Just picked up my 2012 Brilliant Silver Nismo. I love driving this car. It is so much fun.

martin82 07-05-2012 10:02 PM

enjoy the Z, I still do after a bit over half a year of ownership. But I started tracking it after only like 200 miles lol!

theo 07-06-2012 05:29 PM

ordered a 2012 red roadster auto, nav. kick plates around the end of May. I was told it would arrive around July. Excited!!! Then I received a call from the dealer telling me 2012 was no longer available and a 2013 would be arriving sometime August. No change in price. Anxiously Excited!!!!

binary0x01 07-08-2012 12:15 PM

Awesome man, I really wanna see the 2013 :) congrats!

binary0x01 07-24-2012 11:16 PM

Mods in Sig so far.

Springs and oil change done by Seb @ Specialty Z, car feels awesome.

All other stuff done by myself with my buddy.

Next week, UpRev tune, after than Oil Cooler (a must for the track I was told).

Not decided on FastIntentions yet, big investment, it is worth it from what Seb told me so I might do it, but I want to feel the car with just drop-ins and MAFs with a tune, before I opt in for FastIntentions and a tune.

Enjoying this car, I really am satisfied with my car, ever more than a 2005 Golf GTI I used to have, which was awesome...

Mr&Mrs 07-26-2012 04:55 PM

Congrats, and welcome! Another must is better brake fluid that wont boil from what I have gathered.

We'll see.

The POP intake is pointless, the stock boxes see better gains. The only real benefit of the pop charger is the increased engine noise which sounds pretty cool.

The F.I. exhaust is amazing! Don't get that tune until after you have an exhaust on otherwise that'd be a big waste. Finish your bolt-ons, then tune. I have the F.I. non-res and it sounds like sex! The only downside is the slight drone at highway speeds 65-80. The 12 or 18" res would take care of - I just wanted the loudest combo possible. It's loud, but bearable and has definitely quieted down a bit after being broken in. I've heard F.I. next to the HKS (arguable one of the best systems out there) and the F.I. is much deeper and more powerful sounding. Plus at $1100 it can't be beat, FI FTW!

Congrats on the purchase and welcome aboard! Great color choice by the way. :)

binary0x01 07-26-2012 05:29 PM

Yeah I went with Drop-Ins + MAFs instead of POP charger.

Smart choice!:tiphat:

RandyD 07-26-2012 05:51 PM

just for comparison.. i waited one full year before mods to see for myself what i did or didnt like.

i ended up with whiteline swaybars - sweet
Pilot Super Sport tire replacement - BIG difference
Stillen G3 intakes - nice

NO oil cooler needed - and i run it hard.

binary0x01 07-26-2012 06:08 PM

It gets really hot here.

My Whiteline sway bars are gonna be in mid August. KamiSpeed told me they're on back order till then.

I'll def look into new tires ones I destroy the stock Yokohamas.

Done as soon as possible :)

ben1620 08-01-2012 08:14 PM

Congrats on the new lady. I would suggest getting the whole thing clear-coated while u can. Our car has a notoriously weak paint job that chips if you look at it wrong. If i get a new car that will be done as soon as i leave the dealership. Im at 20k miles and considering an complete paintjob. Almost all of my chips are past where clear bra would protect.
