New 2012 Z owner in SoCal

Hi, new Z owner from SoCal. I picked up a new 2012 370Z w/sport package last night. Got the rear view mirror camera, kick plates, floor mats and carpet as the only options. $33,510 total, I'm happy with the deal.

Traded an 07 S2000 in on it, hope I don't miss the S too much LOL. The Z feels like a huge luxury car in comparison.

Today I noticed there was an odd scratch on the trunk, but it was under the clearcoat (could not feel it at all with my fingernail). Took it to the dealer and they said they would need to blend the paint and it would look perfect when they were done ... I'm wondering about that. Should I just ask them to replace the trunk with another one? They have 4 other silver Z's on the lot.

It was raining when I picked up the car so that's why I did not see it in the inspection, or I would have made them swap it out right then.

Anyway, I've been driving it around just to get some miles on it ... 1,200 break in miles < 4K RPM is going to be difficult.

Welcome and congrats. I wouldnt worry about the scratch too much. Dont let it ruin your new z experience. I woud advise against swapping trunks as they are vin etched and i doubt the dealer would agree to that anyway. If they are offering to blend the paint, i woud get it detailed first and see if it can be polished out before you go the paint route. Good luck and drive safe!

One thing I realized with the Z or any Nissan is their paint is absolute garbage for any color. You breathe on it and it will scratch. They have barely any clearcoat on these cars.

I am definitely not letting it ruin my experience. They already tried polishing it out but that failed, it's under the clear coat. I'm sure they will fix it, the body shop guy said it would be like new. They'll need the car a couple of days but will give me a loaner Z so no worries.
